Figura Obscura

I’m also a click buy first, look at pics later, kind of customer, especially when it comes to Figura Obscura. You kind of know you’re getting your money’s worth. And that is what I did.

I just now remembered and was afraid I missed out. I didn’t… but for some reason, I didn’t purchase. It looks terrific; not sure why it’s not doing anything for me.

Ganesha looks a little stiff in their photos. I wonder how many unique poses he can pull off.
Grabbed Ganesh and now I’m salivating at the thought of a Zeus with this level of detail.
I'd love to have a few major representations of each mythos I care about (Greek, Norse, and Egyptian).

The Greek pantheon is dangerous for me. While I wouldn't wind up with all 12 Olympians, I'd have trouble saying no to Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, and Hermes. The trouble with the Greek pantheon is that I couldn't pick a single representative. Zeus and Poseidon are probably the quintessential members, but Athena and Artemis are my favorites.

This mythology shelf (which I don't have room for) would be like two Egyptian, three Norse, and eight Greek gods. 😬

We could also get other parts of the mythology, not just Gods. Medusa, the Minotaur, Odysseus. Lots of cool picks.

That is totally fair. I want representations from as many cultures as possible on my shelf. The idea of a mixed pantheon mingling and meddling with my heroes is too appealing, so I’m happy to add as many as I can find.

Yeah. Hades (the game) wrecked me. I'd buy Thanatos, Achilles, Theseus, and Asterius.

I'd pick up Circe, Daedalus, Odysseus, and countless others from the major stories.

I would go so deep in Greek and Hindi mythological characters. I have a whole corner of my office ready for new shelves if I can just get my wife to stop using all the house project budget on yard stuff and close up this useless door.

I was a ridiculously big mythology nerd and I'd go in deep for a lot of different pantheons, and budgetary constraints help me if they did heroes like Odysseus too.

I decided to not get up early and get the new figure and actually take a moment to think about it if he was still available once I was awake and had a few cups of coffee in me. Ganesha is beautiful and they really did an elegant, respectful interpretation. This will also give me a better way to figure out where to put the Monkey King, who currently just sort of roams the shelves without a thematic space.

Unrelated to the new drop, the surprise Figura Obscura figure getting year-round use is Christmas Past. During non-holiday seasons she's ended up being kind of an immortal sorceress in the background of the Mythic Legions setup. I find there's always a spot for her in a display. Galadriel vibes.

It's a bittersweet aspect of the line. My want list stretches literally from here until long after I'm dead. And seeing that I'm younger than the 4H guys...

At the same time, each drop is so special and cared for. I like that they come out one (sometimes 2) at a time instead of a wave. Figura Obscura is really a novel collecting experience. There's nothing else like it.

I slept in a bit this morning, my wife woke up earlier and got some coffee, her phone, and got back into bed. She nudged me to show me pics of Ganesha so he was the first thing I saw when I woke up. Then she decided to order him for my birthday at the end of the month, which was a very happy surprise.

He'll sit on the shelf nearest my work desk for the year, before retiring behind me on my work bookshelf. Absolutely stunning piece of art. Well done 4H, you continue to be the most interesting game in town. The accessories are a brilliant touch. Who doesn't want some 1/12 apples, bananas and grapes?? Glad he also has a place to sit. Definitely don't want him shelf diving.

I haven't watched Bill's unboxing yet but I presume he comes with a surprise, like the others. Hard to imagine what it might be, I'm not sure they'd want to include an extra head for something like this, to make him into another character, like a grey Tharnog repaint.

Now to track down a large plastic lotus...

I grabbed Ganesha this morning. ( was on early enough that I could look at the pics before I purchased him, unlike most drops from this line.
Thus far, the only 1 I've skipped was Christmas past last year.

I have the originals for all of the Figura Obscuras so far. Krampus was my first modern Four Horsemen Figure, and I had to go back and get the Horseman.
