Tracking toy tariffs

Trump's constant deference to Putin certainly gives the appearance that the Kremlin has some kind of leverage on him, but a pee tape just seems so unlikely given that he's a notorious mysophobe and it's not like he lacks for other exploitable vices. And isn't one of Trump's super powers his utter lack of shame? Why would he be so easily manipulated just for appearing in a tape of Russian prostitutes peeing on a presidential suite bed when he's done so much worse? They've got something on him, but a pee tape just seems so banal and mundane in Trump world.
He's willing to make up any reality he wants. I suppose I could see a 2016 Trump thinking he couldn't get out of such a thing (he initially thought the "grab em by the..." tape was it for him), but 2025 Trump knows he can dismiss anything as a lie and his base will go along with it. His obsession with Putin is just his natural infatuation for dictators and powerful men which he aspires to be.

But has the Epstein thing done anything but annoy him? Seems like there have been zero actual impacts and the world has moved on.

My guess on this one is simple and mundane to plenty of people. He still doesn't want to piss off Melania and wants her to keep appearing in public with him.

She stayed away from him for a while during his first presidency in an effort to get him to renegotiate their pre-nup. He doesn't want to go through that again on mulitple levels, so he doesn't want the headlines plastered with what he and Epstein did during the period when he and Melania were still in the infancy of their relationship because it would cost him in wife and/or pre-nup points that he renegotiated again with her in 2023 before the last presidential campaign began.

Or maybe it would cost him in Barron points. Who knows what he thinks of his dad. If they've ever been close in any paternal way I missed it. Trump's a simple guy in most ways, and he likes most of his kids. The layer we see and hate is a fabrication on his part and isn't the real guy. NONE of us know what he's actually like, but there are hints everywhere.

One of his claims it is to return manufacturing to the U.S. Many industries can not.
I was just listening to the radio news the other day & they interviewed a jewelry retailer who said there is no expertise in the U.S. to make the jewelry. Just like toy manufacturing will not come back to the U.S.

Essentially it is just an ego trip for him as it forces foreign countries to come to him to negotiate better terms.
D
The psychology world removed narcissistic personality disorder from their standard DSM manual back in 2014. The criteria were too subjective and cast too wide a net. I looked that up back in 2015 when he first started running for president as a Republican because I thought he might meet the criteria for it, but the disorder had just been removed.

But of course he's narcissistic. I'm sure even he realizes that.
”Good” news! While there was a petition to remove/revise personality disorders in the DSM-V in 2015, the proposal was rejected and NPD remains a viable diagnosis and was never removed. It’s still there, and while I would need some actual in-person diagnostic time to officially diagnose Donald, I feel *extremely* comfortable noting that he outwardly displays many of the classic symptoms of NPD, to a cartoonish degree.

Also, re: the pee tape:
My understanding is that the sex workers did not pee *on* Donald, but rather on a bed supposedly once slept in by Obama, while Donald watched. That tracks more with something I can believe.

By most, do you mean Ivanka?
There's a story about Trump picking up Don Jr to take him to a Yankees game. Jr was in his dorm, I can't remember if it was a private school or college. Don Jr opens the door and he's wearing a Yankees jersey. Supposedly Trump smacks Jr across the room and tells him to put on a shirt and tie. I agree with this up to a point, a Mets jersey would've been more acceptable.

Got the official word HLJ is suspending shipments to the US. We'll see how this week goes.

As has been said before on this thread, I'm just so tired, y'all. I feel like the toy stuff is the only annoyance I can really give much voice to anymore because it's the only faucet I can turn off once it's on. If I start thinking too much about everything else I start to spiral out and it ruins my whole day.

Yeah, the toy stuff is small compared to it all but at least it’s not life or death for the buyers. It will ruin lives on the business end (I’m thinking of some kickstarters l will regret if I don’t receive them but it’ll be career ending for the creators). The constant spray of shit feels like it had no end.

DJC Collectibles in Ottawa, Canada has posted on their main page that they are still shipping to the US. However with the changes coming this week they will now only use Purolator. Purolator is an equivalent to FedEx/UPS in Canada and is actually mostly owned by Canada Post (91%). So it is a bit weird owning a competitor. Anyway they posted that US buyers will now be responsible for any duties/taxes on their shipments. Also Purolator, much like FedEx/UPS is a bit more expensive than the post office.

I can see this de minimis issue being a problem for etailers in other countries, but it could also lead to some of them being more aggressive to get local buyers to try and offset any loss from the US market. Will that happen? Probably not. More likely some will close down because of the loss of business. I mean clearly BBTS and EE will benefit to a degree because you guys will probably see no point in buying from outside the US if duties are going to kill the price.
