Last Movie Watched

I saw Red Sonja. It's not going to win any awards for writing, but it was an entertaining 110 minutes. I thought Matilda Lutz looked like Red Sonja, especially the Bjorn Barends covers. It was a chore peeling my eyes from her muscular midriff.😍 I try not to be too misogynistic, but having a female action star with visible musculature is an overdue change.

Got around to watching Midsommar last night- so many of the moments that were supposed to be unnerving just made me laugh. I had finally watched the original Wicker Man for the first time last year, so that being fresh in my memory made the influences in Midsommar very evident. Glad I finally gave it a watch, but would rate it a 2.5/5.
 
Finally saw WEAPONS. It was fun, I enjoyed it but the hype kinda raised my expectations somewhat and it never really matched them. It also felt a wee bit too long, could have done with at least 10-15 minutes trimmed off. Loved the ending mind, very cathartic.
 
Also saw Weapons - it's so nice to go into movies knowing nothing. This movie had one of the best jump scares - I jumped out of and deep into my seat. Austin Abrams did a great job, and I think this is actually the first thing I've seen Julia Garner in (when she's not covered in silver).

Also, I started laughing when I realized Thanos, Silver Surfer, Wong and Ezekiel Stane were all hanging out. :)

But yikes - this movie didn't pull punches and, more importantly, didn't hit a magic reset button - I think I'm most impressed by that.
 
Decided to go all in and watch all the Alien movies while Earth is starting to stream. I'd seen Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, and Covenant before, but it's been a long time.

Just finished Resurrection and is it weird that I had an absolute great time watching it. It's fucking nuts from beginning to end and generally makes zero sense. But man, fun cast, fun performances, great over the top 90's action pieces. I think if it wasn't tied to Alien, it would be more fondly remembered.

Now, do I watch the AVP movies next, knowing that they're not canon, or do I jump to Prometheus?
 
Resurrection is fun when you realize Whedon repurposed the concept of that crew into Firefly.

If you have the time, I don't see why not with AVP. I don't know if anyone considers it required though.
 
Are the AvP movies good? Not really, but they're guilty pleasures. The first one, at least- the second feels a bit needlessly dark, literally and figuratively. But the first one is such a silly, shlocky monster mash that, as long as you aren't expecting anything of quality, can make for a pretty fun time! But I'd also argue that those can be watched any time; obviously you're doing more release order than chronological, but even still- their lack of essential-ness is a plus in that regard.

Oh man, no kidding! I saw it in the theater and haven't watched it since. I could barely see what was happening in a lot of scenes.

Agreed. It knows what it is and rolls with it. And I feel like the director, and definitely the guys who made the creatures, were fans of the original movies and had a good time making this. The second one didn't have that at all.
 
I just watched Alien 3 for the first time. More so to catch up on Fincher's filmography than Alien's, but I'll get there eventually, too.

I understand why people hate it. It's overstuffed to the point of boredom. The middle third drags. I can't possibly give it a thumbs down after the ending, though. I love a franchise film that clearly despises franchises.

The Matrix Resurrections is bad, but I begrudgingly respect it for sabotaging its own intellectual property.
