Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

I got New Etheria Hordak today. This figure looks awesome! One of the best Mattel has done, and that's saying a lot because New Eternia/New Etheria figures have all been really good.

Kobra Khan and KLUT should be here in a couple days. Maybe I'll get them on my Birthday Monday.

But this Hordak is really fun. Very classic, traditional looking Hordak but with some new elements and he is very creepy looking in the face. Much more so than any previous Hordak. This Hordak IS the leader of the Horde. He killed Horde Prime, and you do not want to p*** him off.

Didn't realize the size difference was so extreme. This has "don't talk to me or my son ever again" energy.
 
I kind of like the revelations Hordak (and techno skeletor) too. They’re nice sculpts, but the playability is a little ehhh on both

I painted that Skeletors head silver and treat it as a kind of Robot Skeletor golem that the Horde made that Mimics Skeletors power.

And yeah the new Hordak is amazing. I need to grab some fists for it. And maybe a sword, though Im not sure which one will suit. Have to have a think about that.

Meanwhile I should be getting Kobra Khan and Terror Claw Skeletor today. Not sure who Ill turn TC into yet, Ill have a look when he gets here.

Having ZERO nostalgia linked with the character (my sister had a She-Ra, but I didn't know anyone else but her & Kowl), I still prefer the bright contrast of that blue, but yeah, that new one is superior in every other way, GADDAM!!
 
The gray details on the left one's face go a long way. They're clearly missing from the right one's face.
 
I’m definitely more about MotU Hordak than PoP Hordak, character-wise. I prefer the grey to the blue and ESPECIALLY I prefer Hordak as a master sorcerer than a tech-enhanced guy. I get trying to differentiate him from Skeletor in terms of power set, but I prefer a “I taught Skeletor everything he knows, but not everything *I* know” read on Hordak. Also I *hate* the whole “Horde Prime” thing: Hordak IS the Bigger Bad, they don’t need another, Even Bigger Bad behind him. It diminishes him and makes him a minion.
Like: he’s space-barbarian Nosferatu and space-barbarian Vecna squished together.
This new figure absolutely captures that, and I love him very much. I also acknowledge that they leaned WAY into the vampire attributes of his design, so yeah: on-brand for me.

But damn, that headsculpt: best in the line.
 
The new body looks way better, and the way they're doing shading on the body looks great compared to that vibrant dark blue, which I find distracting. I didn't have interest in a new Hordak until seeing this comparison, he looks scary now instead of a cute little baby. They both have fly footwear, I'll give them that! I kind of prefer the duck feet on the old one, maybe I'll swap 'em.

Regarding the head sculpt, isn't it crazy how Masterverse has some of the best monster heads and then some of the worst human heads? I'd put NE Merman and Skelcon up there for best head sculpt, too. Skelcon's tongue alone is miles above most domestic toys. Ninjor's Oni mask is incredible, too, especially since they used multiple types of plastic.
