G.I. Joe Classified Series

I said this in the SnowCat thread, but I will definitely buy a stripped down arctic HISS. In fact, with the SnowCat in hand, Hasbro is going to find me a very easy mark for basically anything snow-themed going forward. Partly because I love that stuff anyway, and partly because every item I get to go with the SnowCat specifically will help to justify that big purchase.

I appreciate how aware you are of that. Sometimes I've gone into something thinking "just this", but it leads to a whole lot of "if I have that, I'll need this", and it just dominos.

I think we all have to really accept the 'collecting' part of collecting. It's rarely ever 'I just need this one thing.' And the more stuff you have, the more stuff that pairs well with it that you're going to want. But I also think it's especially true of large ticket items, and it goes both ways.

By way of example; as I sold off some MOTUC figures I didn't want anymore, I found it easier to constantly go back and make new decisions about which figures I could part with. And then I got to the point where I didn't feel like I was keeping enough figures to justify having the MOTUC Castle Grayskull.

In the opposite direction from that; If I'm going to buy the SnowCat, I really need to feel like it has more value in my collection than just 'I bought a SnowCat.' I NEED to justify it to myself by having stuff that goes with it. Hell, just gearing up for the HasLab being announced I bought a second Snow Serpent (and decided not to buy a Snowjob because he's too much on secondary right now).

I imagine I'm in the majority of collectors, even if many don't really look at it so directly like that.

Oh totally. I keep kinda wishing for a Black Hawk type of helicopter... It's the one classified vehicle I could be tempted by... But then I'm gonna need to load it with guys! Then probably need Scrap Iron to launch stuff at it... And then, and so on.

That is kinda wonderful though. I got like that with black s and legends, where I cut out ones I really wasn't thrilled to own, which led to more "well if I don't have that, I won't need this" so you're right.

Ugh no kidding, but around the time the snowcat ships would be a nice time for a retro snowjob.

I find Star Wars, in particular, really cuts both directions. Because it's easy to start a cascade of 'getting rid of' because so many of the characters are inter-connected to the point where not having X and Y means you don't need A, B, C, D, or G. The other side of that is, there's ensemble casts all over the place where it's basically impossible to get just one. If you go buy a Phantom Menace figure, you're probably gonna end up with a bunch of Phantom Menace figures. If you get Farmboy Luke, you're probably going to end up with the entire primary cast of ANH.

Someone in my local FB collecting group posted that a store on the other side of town put up their display and had 4 Crystal Balls left. I've never thrown on a shirt and pants faster and sped my ass over there.

Fortunately all 4 were still there. Boxes all smashed, but doesn't bother me. Grabbed one for me and one for FuzzyBlueDemon and went on my way. Plus today was the last day of Ohio's tax holiday, so got him a little cheaper than usual.

Absolutely.

For the most part, I firmly agree. Like Rogue One, I only have K2SO and the new troopers from that movie. I have nothing from Andor at all. I have three figures from the entire ST. I even got my Mandalorian/BOBF/Ahsoka era stuff down to eight figures. But some stuff... like I have Ben, then I have Luke, Leia, Han, Lando, the droids, Yoda, and Chewie all from ESB. Then I had to get Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, and Lando as they appear in Jabba's Palace for my creature shelf. But it's the OT and I'll allow it.

And I saw myself going that way, so I did something really weird for myself and got rid of all my named Clones, just have a plain P1 and plain P2 now. I have AOTC Padme, CW Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, and ROTS Anakin, along with Ventress but got rid of Dooku. Kept Plo Koon (and will get Barriss) but got rid of every other Jedi. It doesn't even make my eye twitch. I got rid of every non-masked Imperial but Palpatine and Tarkin. It's weird and some of it doesn't make sense even to me but it's sorta freeing.

Classified though, there are a few I ended up not keeping, usually because I got something to do a custom and realized I was going too far. I need to save room for the actual figures because there's gonna be too many eventually!

But the new thing I hit upon, for me at least, is how I do a custom file card for every figure I get, so I do have some made for figures I didn't keep. I 'stamped' them "INACTIVE", and have them in a different file on the computer, and realized.... holy shit, I need to do that with all the figures I sorta want but not really, such as the Dreadnoks. And it makes sense for a lot of these characters to be inactive now because while some may have left or been discharged, a lot of them have likely died. That's why I was gathering pictures of Vipers and found that dark one on hisstank I posted this morning. Yeah, I know that is way obsessive, but if you really want to hear how ridiculous I am... when I was helping do articles for the Star Wars parody wiki, Banthapedia, that no longer exists, I did articles for a TON of Stormtroopers where I gave them distinct TK designations and little backstories. Any still I could find of a Stormtrooper from any of the movies, I named him. There came a point where I freaked out and completely abandoned that site because I realized how much creative energy I was pissing away there, heh. but clearly, with my filecard project, I still need to have a dumb, inconsequential little creative outlet with no stakes at all. Just fun, no publishing.

I got a shipping notice for Crystal Ball, he'll be here tomorrow.

Swear to God.......I DON'T remember ordering him. In fact, I thought I tried but he was sold out. I........I don't know what's going on.......

Out of curiosity, anyone in the Northeast had their Crystal Ball ship? I swear Walmart just ships wherever the trucks happen to show up with a particular item. Not a single CB anywhere within 50 miles of me according to their website, though maybe I should try Brickseek or something? I Haven't cared enough since before the pandemic to chase stuff in stores, but Wally is such a clusterfuck it might be worth my time.

Not quite the north east, but I'm in Maryland and mine is on the way. A friend on the VA/MD border also had his ship out this week.

Thanks. I'm up in Mass and I find that if the local stores don't get any in stock, we don't get our preorders either. But they haven't canceled mine yet, so... hope springs eternal, even for Walmart.

I’m NJ and I just got notice that my later order shipped, no movement on my original order. Moving via OnTrac.
