Masters of the Universe: Origins

I can't wait for that either NORM. Next month I believe. I'm actually going to have to get 2 of that set. It looks amazing.

I wouldn't be opposed to an extra either. But it's really making me want a new Cartoon Battle Cat. He deserves it.

Out of curiosity, has anyone on here backed the Snake Lair? It is a really cool looking playset. The price is kind of crazy, but it's a really neat looking castle.

I literally only want that two headed Lizard mount... but I'm not dropping that kind of crazy coin to get it. I honestly hope the crowdfund fails and they have to pivot and just release the figures and mount as site exclusives.

Unfortunately it is already 63% funded with more than a day left in the early bird backing. Even if the early bird backing doesn't fund the whole thing by tomorrow it is more than close enough to fund. I expect it will at least get close by tomorrow. So the only way to get Chimera will be to either back the Snake Lair, or the secondary market (like King Grayskull).

Also even if it does fail to fund it doesn't mean we will necessarily see the figures in the future. I mean there has been no indication they have any plans to release Kecklar who didn't fund and that has been about 3 years now.

With Keclar, the project funded, just not in the way that delivered him, so I kind of get that, especially when they plan to do more crowd fund projects, you can't have people thinking the threat of not unlocking a figure is hollow.

But if the entire project fails to fund, that is something else. Those items could be salvaged to release on their own - like Hasbro is doing with Goblin Queen and Mephisto.

Very true. Mattel has definitely been more willing to shelve items for what seems like forever than Hasbro.

Another thing could be the dwindling return on MOTU:O. They can't seem to get around to finishing the vintage characters that need updated releases in Origins, and for the most part Origins (and Masterverse) are no longer instant sellouts on Creations. Some are still sitting months later when I would have thought they would have sold out by now (Rio-Blast).

Maybe the movie next year will give all MOTU a shot in the arm, but if it doesn't then I think we are in the final years of Origins and failed to fund items might be the lowest rung on the release ladder.

I don't get to go to Target often since I don't have one near me but on my work trip today I stopped in one in Arkansas and saw the concept Sy-Klone in person. It hit me that he was pretty reminiscent of Spinwit from New Adventures so now I've head-canoned it that Spinwit came back to Eternia with He-Man after he left Primus and got an upgraded costume from Man-at-Arms and now I have an Origins Spinwit, who is my favorite New Adventures character.

I backed the Snake Lair. Once I saw Pixel Dan's sdcc video of it (seeing it in HD and well lit did it) I loved it and thought it was worth close to the $300. My favorite property is MOTU. I was a completionist until they started vomiting out 3 main lines and all these crossovers. That has forced me to be picky not just for volume reasons, but they have made some real questionable garbage lately. That Snake Lair would have been the envy of every kid I know who was deep into MOTU in the 80s. Deffinitely better than the vintage Snake Mountain and Fright Zone.

Same. I like the Chimera figure. The priest guy is cool too. I already have the previous snake lady, so I'm not as drawn to this one.

I really don't like early bird specials. So basically, who is going to order this thing after the early bird figure ends? Knowing you're getting less of an item. Seems like a silly strategy which basically just front loads your campaign and then kills it early.

I don't really need the Snake Lair. I do like the figures overall though. I would sort of be tempted to order it and just sell the castle itself. Not sure who would really want it though. Also, if I do order it today (last day for early bird figure), am I allowed to cancel my order before the campaign ends?

Origins for me is a loyal recreation of the line I grew up with. The Snake Lair didn’t exist then, so it lacks the nostalgia pull that the rest of the line has. I haven’t even bothered to watch a video or look at pictures. So I’ll be blowing $300 on a Classified SnowCAT instead.

While I understand the obvious nostalgia pull for Origins, I've bought plenty of Origins which don't have a nostalgia pull for me. Like the skeletons and so many of the Snakemen. I don't have any nostalgic pull for the Fright Zone, but it's sitting in my Pile of Loot. I don't have an Origins Greyskull, since I already have the Classics Greyskull and didn't see a point of double-dipping on CG. I skipped Origins Snake Mountain due to little nostalgic pull and also...I'd have my Classics CG would dwarf it. I really like my massive army of Snakemen but I'm not sure this Snake Lair really is all that appealing. Why couldn't it just have been a $100-150 release and the figures also get their own release? Watching videos of the Fright Zone and knowing it's $90 and then looking at this Snake Lair and seeing it $300...it just doesn't quite add up.

Yeah, the $300 price tag doesn't add up. Between that and the fact like NORM said, the Snake Lair isn't part of the original He-Man line, I'm not getting this piece.

That being said, it's really cool, and really fun looking. It's just too much money for what you get. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted. MOTU being my favorite toy line and brand as a kid, and still to this day, I have practically everything ever that's come out for MOTU. So, to skip something feels wrong.

But it's happening for this playset.

I haven't got the Fright Zone yet either. And that DID come out in the vintage line. But I just haven't done it yet. I guess because of space and just the feeling "how many playsets do I need"

My brain says ALL OF THEM. But that can't be right.
