McFarlane DC Multiverse

I bought an old McFarlane figure today. Harley Quinn. I'm talking the first Harley Quinn from the first year of figures. Was she even in the first Wave? Still, I'd past on her when she came out because she looked to animated to me. Todd said she wasn't animated and was in fact a comic version, but I still felt she looked a bit cartoonish.

I always thought he'd let her out again. Since McFarlane is wrapping up, and I have all the Batman stuff, I didn't want to have that one hole in the collection. So, I bought her at a comic shop. She really isn't AS cartoonish or animated looking as I remember. Still, she definitely immediately makes you think of Harley from BTAS.

But I like the figure, and I'm glad to have it.
I actually picked up SS Harley for the same reason. I skipped that one because it was so BTAS style when I saw her, and I figure Margo channeled the character well enough I can live with her as my stand-in. (I did the same thing for movie Cyclone.) Still hoping for one really truly comics version of her before the end, but if he's adamant that that's comics Harley maybe we won't.

I remember getting that figure when the line first started and being so excited for where the line could be going; I was really hopeful for better, more articulated versions of the animated looks. I know Todd may say one thing, but that's totally her BTAS design to me. If he says she's comic-based, then he must be talking about the BTAS comics as far as I'm concerned. I still have that figure, for some reason (and I think I may still have the old animated Teen Titans Cyborg, but I can't be sure), but both just make me kinda sad to look at. Would've loved more from those shows, especially the animated Teen Titans stuff, for being such a big part of my childhood.

I'm definitely gonna go through and purge most of my McFarlane Multiverse figures- save maybe the live action movie ones and select characters- but alas, animated Harley will definitely be on the chopping block. I still have both Margot Robbie versions, but I'll probably end up just sticking with the TSS one. I'd happily have taken a more modern comic version to go with the Joker and Punchline we got.

I tried swapping the Suicide Squad Margot head onto the gold jumpsuit body, since the gold jumpsuit head looks nothing like Margot, but YIKES was that terrible looking. I'd love a good Margot Harley but alas... can't even get a good comic Harley.

Whose merchandise prints money.

But female.

I mean all they have to do is resissue that FA look one with a more naturalistic head.
And maybe they will. But nothing has been announced and I also feel like if Todd lets out Harley again before his time with the DC license ends, it will be a more modern looking version.

So aside from the 15th where Bones and Obsidian are on sale, McFarlane has a preorder date for an unknown item on 8/20/25. It’s a general release in the EE Drop Zone so it’s not Rebirth Batmobile. Also The Batman Batmobile goes up for preorder tomorrow in Todd’s store.

Also found Batwing 2 today at GameStop. Very cool figure of a very cool and underused character.

Baffling we never got the modern Amanda Conner version or specific Harley and Ivy.

I found regular and plat Mirror Master at Walmart today. Fuck me $35 plus tax stings.

Had the exact same experience today... both Mirror Master figures and Deathstroke were at Walmart. Really didn't like the proportions and tiny head on Deathstroke so left him there. But the Mirror Master was really well done and it was a tough choice. The orange on the standard figure was really sharp but the yellow on the platinum also looked good. I picked up the platinum after much deliberation... but yeah the price tag was grim.

It's beyond baffling how many characters and looks we never got because of Todd's dumb stance on females. I mean, Harley Quinn? She's incredibly popular, even with non-comic fans...almost to Deadpool levels. Todd does a couple movie figures and an animated one (even if he claims she was comic based), and that is it? Leaving money on the table, for sure.

Tied in with Todd's weird hangup about female characters is that he also mostly seems to care about DC stuff he was around for or stuff Greg Capullo worked on. So we'll get Jade, because Todd used to draw her, but not just a regular comic Harley, the second-most-popular female character DC has.

Lack of female figures is not really a Todd thing. DCUC and related lines produced well over 300 figures. Fewer than 50 were female. Todd is just willing to talk about. To his personal detriment.

But the specific example of Harley is odd. DCD produced what seems like dozens of Harleys.

FWIW, I still think she’ll happen before the end. Dunno if it’ll be classic or current, but I feel like she’s on the way. She was “verbally confirmed” by Jim Fletcher at one of Todd’s con panels a while back.
