Star Wars Movie and Streaming Series Discussion

I'd thought it was an announcement for the original version, or else why would they announce it so far in advance? Feels a bit odd for them to do if there's nothing special about it. I mean- they've released it in theaters multiple times over the years. The boyo and I had a half-serious theory that they're working on a restoration of the OG footage, but this way, if anything happens during the process, they can still cover their butts by not specifying which version it is in case they need to switch back last minute. 😅 Doubt that's actually the case, but it's fun to theorize.

Apparently Ahsoka season 2

will feature Ewan as Obi-Wan
Apparently the quote was taken out of context. In the full quote he seems to be talking about watching his wife, who plays Hera, film. Though he could just be trying to throw us off the scent. I'd totally be down for a flashback- there's all that time between Order 66 and ANH that they could've had an interaction; could be a good way to give us more Kenobi stuff without a full season 2. We also don't know how Ahsoka meets Luke yet, so still plenty of gaps.

Yeah, that would be a neat way to sneak in more Kenobi, and pick up the thread from his show with the Hidden Path, especially if Ahsoka was involved with that somehow.

Considering her connection to Luke and preservation of the Jedi ways- training Sabine, not training Grogu, etc., I think I'd be more surprised if she wasn't connected to the Hidden Path somehow. Even if she herself isn't fully a Jedi anymore, it's something she'd still want to uphold and redeem and preserve as best she can, I think, especially when it comes to the survival of her old friends.

The Ahsoka first season has kind of convinced me that the animated characters should have remained animated. I think I would have liked it better if it had continued in the animated style and been consistent with Clone Wars and Rebels, as it seemed jarring to be live action, and honestly felt off?

So I am not sure I want a live action Asajj or others. I get why others do of course.

For me, I think it comes down to how they're portrayed in live action and who is responsible for portraying them- both actors and writers. At least with Dave, you get the through-line of his work on Rebels and his work on Ahsoka, so they at least feel like more or less the same characters, even if the actor themselves plays them a little differently. As small as his role was, I'd argue even Cad Bane felt relatively safe because they didn't really do much with him except keep him threatening and mysterious. If they were to give him a whole story arc, then I may feel differently. Could also be that I'm not as connected to Cad, so I don't really care quite as much what they do with him. You also have the benefit of him being played by the same actor (vocally, at least).

All in all, I'm relatively pleased with all the animated characters who've crossed over so far. They do feel different, but to me it's moreso a "this is an older, wiser version of the character" rather than "this is a totally different version of the character". The folks they've brought on feel, at the very least, respectful and knowledgable of what came before, if not an outright fan like in the case of Eman or Rosario. But I'm interested to see how that translates when they're inevitably handled by a writer or showrunner that isn't as familiar with them as Dave was with the Rebels crew.

I may have overstated - a little jarring and a little off. I think it was done as well as it could be.

Maybe the best equivalency would be like recasting an entire show - no matter how good the cast and writing is, it is going to seem different - not quite a remake though.

Might just be a me thing - for some reason going from animated to live action just doesn't seem to work for me - maybe because I think animated film/tv is its own visual artform that is equal to live action film/tv, so it isn't the same as adapting to film/tv from a different medium - like stage or print to screen. I don't have the same reaction when they do an animated version of live action, usually because the animated version adds a more stylized flair to it.

I had the same reaction for live action Scooby Doo or the live action remakes of the Disney animated classics or the new How to Train Your Dragon - the remakes in particular seem odd, like when they did that shot for shot remake of Psycho.

Ewan McGregor:

“I watched Andor and I watched the first episode of it at home with my little boy, and then I realized what everyone was talking about. And then watched all of the whole of the first season and all of the second season just on my own without him, because I couldn't wait to get through it all. You know, he watched bits of it with me, but I thought it was great. I really liked it."

“And then I got really excited. I was thinking, 'I think I'm in this timeline. I think I could be in Season 3.' I was super excited, and then I realized, 'Oh no.' So anyway, maybe if there was, I could have squeezed in there, if only. There's always a chance that maybe there's a story that's happening at the same time where it kind of crosses over. So there's always a chance if Disney is listening — hypothetically, hypothetically. Come on, Disney.”

I think Ewan said he was gonna start watching the Clone Wars cartoon too. I'd be really interested to hear what he thinks of JAT's take on him, and all the things Obi-Wan gets up to in the show.

As fun as it would be to see Obi-Wan and Cassian interact, I don't need to see it. It would feel too small world. Not every character needs to interact, and I kinda like the idea of Cassian and the RO crew not really interacting with any of the major players beyond Mon and Saw. I think it would give them too much hope in an odd way. They know, but also don't know, what they're sacrificing their lives for, which makes it all the more powerful, I think. Cassian wouldn't be one to just rely on the Jedi (who he probably thinks are all dead anyway) to save the day, anyway. He wouldn't have time for any of their magic nonsense.
