Ghostbusters General Thread

I didn’t buy them, but they looked to be readily available. I think they are marked as sold out now. It was listed as a preorder so I’m assuming they’re doing another run as opposed to just selling leftover stock. It’s kind of sad they think they can’t do a Firehouse reproduction, not that I’d want one. That thing really wasn’t very complicated and disassembled it’s really not that big. I don’t see how it would need to be $300, but they know better than me.

I don't know why they would say they couldn't do a Firehouse. Of course they can. Maybe they are just "reading the room" and as stated the price is probably a big factor as to why it might not be worth doing.

I'm lucky that I snagged a Playmobil Firehouse for $55Cdn a couple years ago, along with a $35Cdn Ecto-1. So that does fine for me. However a Firehouse is a big missing part of the collection and I really think they should get one done.

I think it’s just them telling you the RGB stuff isn’t super popular. There’s a reason why Mondo was allowed to do what they’re doing. Now if these Ecto Glow variants do well then maybe it’s back on the table.

Actually that is a good point. Also, if I am remembering correctly, the first batch of RGB reissues (the guys and Ecto-1) didn't exactly fly off the shelves. Didn't they end up on clearance at Ross/Ollie's?

I know up here the Ecto-1 ended up at Winners (TJMaxx) and Marshall's. I think the guys also ended up discounted at some places as well. So the market might be pretty small.

I know the Ecto Glow stuff should do well, but I think that is more about scarcity than demand. The original guys are so expensive that getting a reissue much cheaper was a no brainer. Then the Ecto-1 is a simple reissue of the reissue but with new colours/paint. Same with Slimer and Stay Puft. All of which is part of their "capsule" line for RGB. The next one should be the never made Ecto-Copter with Louis. That will drive demand as well, but is still probably not representative of general retail market demand.

I never understood why Hasbro picked up the license in the first place. It's a property that constantly falters in the collectors space. It's got its fans, and trust me, I'm one of them, but there's not really anywhere for a full line to go. You make the guys, a couple ghosts, if you're lucky the car, and then ... what? Like Gargoyles, the majority of your sales are gonna be people who are just interested in the four GBs and then bow out. There aren't even that many variants you can do to entice them. There's not really new and popular material to support new product. Real Ghostbusters had very few name characters to exploit most folks' nostalgia (again, I'm one of the exceptions who is happy to buy anything Mondo puts out). It's a very limited property.

I was trying to remember when the release date for Peter and Samhain was because I could have sworn I read somewhere that someone had gotten a shipping notice. Aren't we expecting them in August?

I've only seen a couple claims of shipping, and i dont think either were in the US? Also heard they were shipping from China, so maybe with the de minimus thing, Mondo decided to ship them first to the US for the rest of us so as not to pay individual fees on each package?

That’s been my assumption on why we have a delay. The whole de minimus thing upended their business model. They may not have had a warehouse in the US equipped to handle the orders and had to change their operation. That’s also why we aren’t getting free shipping anymore on their other product. At any rate, yes we’re supposed to see Pete in August, but I haven’t seen any movement on my order yet.

I was one of the ones who said they received a shipping notice but since then there's been no movement according to the tracking provided. It says it's still in China.

The Ecto-1 retailed in 1988 (I could only find a UK ad, so I'm working on poor math skills & Google calculation for currency exchange) for $20. The Firehouse was $55.

In 2021, the Hasbro RGB Ecto-1 replica retailed for $50. Using that same math (it actually came to $47, so fine, we'll round up), a Hasbro RGB Firehouse replica in 2025 (it wouldn't let me pick 2026 or further), that would be fucking $160, rounding up.

Why the fuck would it be fucking "$300" and require a HasLab, you fucking crooked toy company asshole pieces of shit!?

Go fuck yourselves, Hasblow.

Maybe the original molds don't exist anymore and they'd have to start from scratch.

I know steel molds are insanely expensive, but if it didn't destroy Kenner back then, it shouldn't affect these assholes now, especially when 3D scanning & modelling exists.

Just got shipping notice for Peter/Samhain. Coming from Texas via UPS.

Same. It’s already in UPS’s possession and should arrive to me in Michigan on Wednesday.

Wonder if the backlog of Mondo figures is going to start clearing.
