Official Secrets

Had a copy of this for a while, finally sat down and watched it. The true story of an UK analyst/translator who leaked to the press an NSA memo about blackmailing UN Security Council members in order to secure approval for invading Iraq.

Great cast, depressingly relevant story, and an outcome I did not see coming. There was also a ghastly but, in hindsight, hilarious gaffe involving a well meaning intern running a spellcheck the one time they shouldn’t have.

I watched Jaws last week and I'm watching it again right now. I've mentioned before how it was a go to for me and my mom when I was growing up. We loved watching movie together but anytime we couldn't decide on something, or agree, Jaws was usually the fallback. The Thing was another common one. But man I love this movie, it's so perfect. And the wonderful commentary on the politician willing to sacrifice lives for the bottom line will sadly always be timely.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

It's an FD film, you know what you're getting, though it was touching to see Tony Todd one last time. I did scoff at the Death by MRI sequence but then a couple of days later I saw a story about some poor schmuck who died after getting pulled into one so shows what I know..!

Tetris

Nothing earth shattering, and I sincerely doubt dear old Alexei got Henk Rogers and Howard Lincoln to the airport in a Bond style chase with the FBI hot on their heels but it's mostly a fun watch, and it's always good to see Robert Maxwell and his idiot son get clowned on.

28 Years Later

In a nutshell: it's post Brexit Britain, you're trapped on an island with loads of very angry people who hate everything, and getting an appointment with your local GP is a total nightmare.

Wasn't sure what to expect going in but I certainly didn't expect it to completely wreck me and make me ugly cry at one point. It's a very odd, haunting and beautiful film at times, one that takes some wild swings compared to the average zombo flick. It's not without its faults and it definitely won't work for everyone but I imagine for those who can relate/have been there, the final act will hit hard.

The ending, of course, is completely insane (even more so if you're from the UK) and I'm dying to know what the hell happens next.

I saw this today.

I really enjoyed it. Some genuine scares and the acting was great. The cast made it feel almost like a Marvel movie. You had Thanos (Josh Brolin), the Silver Surfer (Julie Garner) and Wong (Benedict Wong). It kept me guessing right up to the end. So it gets a (y)

Together

A charming wee romcom* about a sweet couple who can't keep their hands off each other. As ever, Alison Brie is very watchable.

* Did I say romcom? I meant
'Thing/Society' style nightmare fuel.

Horror really is in its heyday. I've read speculation that dark times result in more horror stories as a way to process.

Truth. Universal Pictures produced Dracula and Frankenstein in 1931, shortly after the start of the Great Depression.
