I was able to score a set this morning. Only one on the shelf. I remembered at check out that I have a one time use 20% off coupon for teachers, but was too late to apply it. Glad I didn't, because this set is already a decent value.
The package is dope. Love the action/diorama set up of the window, with the ladder and periscope etc. Even the background of the package has some neat art with April on tv and ooze covering nearly every surface. Art on the back of the package is fun too.
If anyone is planning to use crooked @TENIME's idea of swapping in older figures and returning it, they'll have to work pretty hard to position everything so it looks unopened. Removing these guys was tricky without damaging the tray. I wasn't cutting the plastic ties, so that made it tougher too (I just hate them falling all over my floor when they're cut).
The Turtles themselves shouldn't surprise anyone who has the textured singles. They look perfect now without the texture. My Donatello had an aligned mask (all of them do) but he has two right thighs, so I'm gonna have to find another set and swap this one out and return as defective.
I don't get the hate for Splinter, he's probably my favorite of the set. Yes, he diverges from the vintage sculpt a bunch. But he's a decent figure. Rocker ankles immediately puts him over. Hidden blade in the walking stick, removable arrow that can clip to the bow, all good stuff.
I do get the hate for Shredder though. He's very small, and has the same articulation scheme as the Turtles, that is, cut ankles. I might try to replace his head with a vintage reissue head, even if it looks gigantic. The current head is what contributes most to him looking small.
So I'm not out of the woods yet, since I have to replace Donatello, but I really dig this set and I'm glad to have finally found it.
