The Countdown to SDCC 2025!

Or - ask the room.

I'm real curious why the X-97 two-packs are Pulse exclusives. Walmart and Target refused headline X-characters in multipacks? On shelves in time for Christmas? WHY?

I wondered that as well particularly for Jean and Scott. All of the previous sets with those two sold out quite fast and rose high on the aftermarket, so I would assume this one will as well.

Color me kooky but, I expect Hasbro chose to make them pulse exclusives because...
1. It is waaaaaay more profitable. No wholesale sales to retailers. Every toy sells for full price.
2. It is X-MEN. Maximum sell-through and minimum clearance sales.

The only downside I can imagine is possibly retailer resentment?
Were I a retailer, I would be very envious watching all that sweet profit pile up over at Hasbro while I had been cut out of the X=$$² equation. It's bad enough when a producer is selling the same product you're selling at the same mark-up. But then they take their best sellers and dominate the market?

But wtf do I know. I'm a gorilla not an economist. *shrug*

I literally ran into Steve Evans at another panel and explained what they were and apologized that we didn't have a set for him because we didn't know he'd be there. He jokingly said he'll just take Dans set or Dwights set.
Let's plan to print more sets next year. I think it was SDC who brilliantly suggested that we give a set to Jesse Falcon. Jesse was the one who wound up mentioning us at the panel.

We don't have a lot of visibility into the Hasbro side of things (specifically who works on what and how big their team is), but giving Dwight/Dan a few packs to take back to Hasbro HQ can't hurt.
I mean I do get it.. but they did the costume multiple times in animation including the Super Hero Squad cartoon, Earth's Mightiest Heroes toon and in the Lego Marvel game if none of that caused reaction why not sell a fan channel exclusive that doesnt have to be seen in the toy aisle?
He also appeared in Black Panther, one of the biggest movies of all time. He looked like this in the sequel:

I didn't see one iota of criticism afterward. In fact, Winston Duke became a household name.

I speculate that someone on the team loves the very brief run of the Crystar books
Yeah, I think that’s some solid speculation. They’re using that Danzig skull off of one of the Crystar covers as a basis for Mephisto’s throne. And they gave away a set of the comics at the panel.
I admit that I really like the Crystar figure we got. That said, I’d prefer it if it was a secret Rom or Micronauts fan on Hasbro’s staff.

Dan’s comment about doing what sells (X-stuff), along with the fairly solid no GOTG figures coming, coupled with their walk-backs from Avengers and basic avoidance of Thor stuff altogether makes my wallet breathe a sigh of relief. I don’t fault them for doing what a business is supposed to do, but by doing that, they also make it easier for me to start to walk away from the line altogether.
I can totally relate to this. I like the X-Men. But I already have most of what I need from that corner of the Marvel universe. I love the Peter Parker Spider-man. But I have zero interest in Spidey versions from video games, playing cards, and for the most part different Spider-mans. As most here know I want classic stuff that runs up to about the early 90’s. Besides Peter Spidey, my focus is on classic stuff from the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Very little was shown that hit my collecting sweet spot. My wallet says thank you, but the collector in me misses the joy of seeing something I really wanted revealed this week.
I guess I’ll just have to pretend Dragon Man was part of this year.
