G.I. Joe Classified Series

Even as someone who has backed multiple haslabs, I'd be okay with it going away as a concept. It seems to be a good way to put a few bigass, cool projects out there while denying a lot of folks a chance at getting smaller pieces they love for years and years.

I do think we see Wild Weasel again - darker red, and removable helmet but ONLY the standard one, not the battle-damaged one that shows how he got his scars. And that Baroness is coming back out in classic colors minus the flight gear inevitably, they didn't design her like that to not use her again. I imagine they're not in a rush to release the Hiss team because they are attached to a specific vehicle, but they absolutely chose the colors they did for Wild Bill, Ripcord, and Crazy Legs to reissue more popular versions later and I hope they do soon - grey and red Crazy Legs is one of my old favorites.

FOMO's gotten boring. I love, love the Snowcat as a vehicle, but I'm still fence-sitting because all things being equal, Frostbite's the only piece of it I could see myself FUMING about not having five years from now. Versus really, if I didn't have Wild Bill or Wild Weasel (wait a minute... how am I only noticing they're both wild now? Pause for existential crisis...) or their accompanying figures I'd be on eBay stalking them every day for half a decade.
 
I don't know if there's a conspiracy with the commander, but I do think on their current course that's the one you release last since that's the one everyone wants. I saw so many people bemoaning the armored Commander but then getting it anyway because we are toy collectors. I feel like that's the money one for people. Not me though, mirror mask forever!

She was very clear that there was no policy against it, which was really good to hear. She specifically said there was nothing inherently problematic about a guy in a hood, and many of their licensees use that look in their products.

I was hoping to get a gage on any enthusiasm from Lenny and Tony, but they stayed out of it and let Emily handle it with the "can't talk about things that may or may not be in the works" command message. Which is understandable and I've no complaint with.

I wasn't really listening to the crowd at the time, though, so I didn't get any idea if it was a popular idea with collectors there or not. Certainly well below the enthusiasm for a Tuskegee Airman which, yeah.
 
Instead of Haslabs, if they were like $200-250 standard releases and just came with one Figure, that would make me and probably a lot of other people happy. Sell the other figures separately like they did the 788 Fire Team, in multipacks. Would work out to costing us the same but we could decide how much we wanted to go in on it. I think that would make the "driver" figures more special, too.

Cobra Commander was largely a pre-tool of the retro version, which has set the precedent of variants of Haslab figures seeing a mainline release. The Mickey Mouse symbol was of course the main thing they were making exclusive there but the glove and vac metal addition made the retro version essentially perfect and nobody complained about that figure being stolen from the Haslab exclusivity.

Pilot Baroness is likely exclusive too with that body certainly bound for reuse. The gunners could see some variation down the line. I bet the mainline Wild Weasel doesn’t have a removable helmet and just has a helmet head. The other Hiss figures could be released in other colors just like the driver and tactician did right out of the gate.

Flint and Lady Jaye will be unique to the Haslab but their winter jackets will certainly get reissued for other winter versions of characters like Duke or Scarlett. The tent is probably bound for a green rerelease somewhere. Frostbite could be exclusive or a slightly color variant later.

It will certainly be interesting if Hiss or Dragonfly or Rattler color variants come down the line. They’ve got to be careful with that kind of thing, people were mixed on that proton pack. It could easily tank the Haslab system if people would rather wait for a ‘cheaper’ version down the line. Curious if failed Haslabs like the Rancor could benefit from a ‘retry’ without all the bells and whistles (or baked in tier costs) for a lower price.

Previous Haslabs have had figures that were either already released at retail, or got a retail release later. The big difference for those Haslab figures was usually different accessories/packaging compared to the retail release. Specifically Star Wars and ML. So there is lots of precedent for figures to show up at retail in the same colours just with different packaging and/or accessories.

Why? Don't basically all the Joes with helmets have removable ones?

For the Rancor - there's basically zero reason that can't be a made-to-order thing like Dragon Man and the Sentinel. Not everything needs to be a HasLab.

I will always display Wild Weasel helmeted, so it doesn't matter to me either way, but... I think, yes, all with all helmeted joes they are removable... I really can't think of one that isn't right now... But Cobras are different, like Copperhead. But his is so form fitting it may be more of a mask. Big Boa is another. But also, would making a helmeted head that isn't removable be a new sculpt? I sincerely don't know how that works. But seems like extra work at least, when they can just use the same mold already done.
 
If I got a Wild Weasel (and without the copter, I honestly don't think I would), I can't imagine displaying him any other way than with the cowboy hat. That's Wild Weasel to me. And I definitely can't see Hasbro releasing him without it. Especially if the next release is cartoon colors.

Good point about an unremovable helmet being a new sculpt. If they're saving money with a reissue, they'll just just use the same face and send fewer accessories.

Barbecue is the only un-unmaskable Joe. I know this cos I'm on a hunt for a head to pop onto him. His neck peg fits almost no heads from other lines. It's infuriating.

I believe you are right about Copperhead being the only named Cobra without a removable helmet. One of my favorite parts of this line is aside from those outliers they've consistently NOT sculpted helmets on.

Ah ha, I knew there had to be one. I wonder if they had wait to do him until now, would they have done him with a removable helmet? Even just using something like the 65th Diver head or something so they don't have to mess with hair fitting in it.

I was just thinking about the Tiger Rat and laughing about how rats don't fly. But neither do rattlers or mambas.... huh. But yeah, I was imagining my next shot at the Wild Weasel body being the Tiger Rat pilot and having to get a 3D printed Weasel head to paint and pop on him.
