Super 7 Ultimates Thread

Paying dollars for popcorn and pop that cost us pennies (why do you think free refills was a thing?) was every capitalist's dream.
I usually see movies at the much cheaper local Naval base theater, but did see Superman at my local Reading Cinemas. I was a bit confused and couldn't figure out the con for why a large popcorn and soda was cheaper than a medium popcorn and soda.

I'm assuming it's so I have to run out to the bathroom more frequently and thus might have to come see the movie again to see the parts I missed.

Movie theaters probably hated me then, back when I actually went to see movies. I can count on one hand in my 40+ years the number of times I ever even bought anything from the concession stands.

I wish I knew more about factory toy pricing, like, how much would it cost to upgrade that Robin Hood to NECA level. Functional joints, fully painted, able to hold its bow, etc. $1 per unit? $5 per unit? Hell, I would have probably gotten it for $60 if it was NECA level
Do you mean what would it cost consumers, or what would it cost Super7? Different answers. What it would cost consumers is whatever Super7 would decide to charge for making better toys. What would it cost Super7? Pennies per unit. Possibly a percentage of a penny per unit. Again, this is something I've banged on about but I think was often taken as me just criticizing Super7 without knowing anything: Super7 chooses to make figures the way they do out of greed, apathy, and laziness, NOT out of financial constraints.
That is simply a fact. But I would betray a lot of confidence if I cited any kind of numbers, and I don't have access to the actual documents to provide where it would ever be more than my word on it anyway. So can't/won't prove what I'm saying and everyone can just decide if they think Damien or Brian Flynn is a more credible source.

So I actually completely agree with this. The only Ultimates I buy are those that can fit with my sword and sorcery shelf -with my existing collection and I always thought the oexpansion into Disney and Simpsons and etc was risky.

Heck, even the Hasbro stuff... Transformers, G.I. Joe, Power Rangers didn't tempt me because there were better, cheaper options available.
Kind of swinging back around to the 'put me in charge of Super7' thing; Brian Flynn is just an idiot. Those were all GREAT license gets that he pissed away being a fucking moron that thinks anyone wants giant, expensive Simpsons toys. Look at what Jakks is doing right now. Their Simpsons lines are doing really well for them and they're quite basic and far more 'collect-them-all' scaled.
'Ultimates' is Flynn's answer to 'what do modern toy collectors want that I am willing to give them?' And when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Disney, Simpsons, Transformers, Joe, Power Rangers - none of that should have tried to 'fit in' with Ultimates. And they didn't fit in anyway. It's not like you can put Ultimates Flint and Homer next to Lion-O and they look like they belong together. That was just pure stupidity from someone who did not allow his employees to tell him he had bad ideas.

There are still a lot of MOTUC fans out there willing to buy stuff that goes with what they already have. Super7 should absolutely be catering to those people - not least because they're clearly willing to overpay for that kind of a niche item. But you have to be smart with how you choose the licenses. Licenses that don't fit that aesthetic? Do something ELSE with them. How complicated is that?

@PantherCult

It's also how the movie theatre industry works as well. Before becoming a business owner I was a manager at a movie theatre chain for 6 years. The VAST majority of profit for a theatre comes from concessions, which is why they are so ridiculously overpriced.

So where to make money when the megaplex's rent alone was hundreds of thousands of dollars a month? Food. And let me tell you back then the margin on concessions was crazy. Well at least the popcorn and pop. Paying dollars for popcorn and pop that cost us pennies (why do you think free refills was a thing?) was every capitalist's dream. The margins weren't as good for packaged stuff and cooked stuff obviously. ...

I was a movie theater manager for a little over a year and this was my exact experience. As a manager I even got part of my paycheck from a percentage of the concession take - so I was further incentivized to sell as muxh as possible The margins on popcorn and soda were so enormous we didn't even bother to measure it by how much we sold - we inventoried the cups and buckets because that was the biggest cost of the product. Literally the cost of the actual product was so neglible... like all of the popcorn in a large bucket cost maybe a penny and a half. The bucket cost maybe twenty cents... so the $7,50 we charged (this was a long time ago) was almost pure profit. The margin on soda was only slightly worse.

Its the reason many theaters didn't actually care if you movie hop into another auditorium - if you stay longer you are more likely to hit concessions.

Before I was a manager there were some people who figured out the popcorn and soda inventory thing and would team up with an usher to recycle used cups and tubs from the theater they cleaned that they would reuse and not ring up the sale and pocket the cash. Since inventory was done by counting the containers - if the money in the till matched the number of tubs and cups then it was "right". I never did it myself, and when I got promoted I made sure those guys knocked that shit off, since it was now stealing money from my check (and also it was really gross).

Since so few customers pay with cash anymore, I'm sure it is not nearly as easy to do that stuff today.

Did you guys see that Vac Metal Mon*Star Super7 will be releasing? It's pretty cool looking. But I wonder what it costs since they've raised some prices and its Vac Metal. It's probably $100

Spinmasters just put out 5poa Superman: The Movie figures. $7.99 at Target. If that doesn’t tell you Reaction figures are priced way too high, I don’t know what will. It’s not like Spinmasters is producing those figures in factors higher than Reaction figures.

Ultimates are a rip-off, but ReAction might be the biggest offender when it comes to price out there. Even when they were around 15 bucks and I first took notice of them I couldn't believe what they were charging.

I will give them credit for their properties I was happy to get figures from, like Wonka, Disney Robin Hood, Fantasia, even the Richard Scarry figs.

I still wish I had a Maid Marian and Little John to match, even if expensive and not perfect...

I broke down and bought the SilverHawks Ultimates Wave 1 from BBTS who has them on sale today for $62.50 for the set of 4. I really had no prior intentions of buying these but couldn't resist at that price.

Hopefully you can get wave two at a similar price. Having at least the four adult Hawks feels like a good place for that overall collection.

At that price you couldn't afford NOT to get them. I don't know if any of us can. I think we will all lose money if we don't buy this set at that price.

You are right. I didn't buy it because I already have them and suddenly there is a crap-ton of money gone from my bank account.

It could have something to do with all the preorders hitting from every direction this week though...

Pre orders are attacking at an unbelievable rate. It's like a coordinated attack by all toy companies. It's mean. It's mean spirited.
