McFarlane DC Multiverse

This guy (Jayger 101) is usually pretty much spot on with his leaks, and he has Poison Ivy, Black Canary, and Zatanna as upcoming releases in this video.

Got Batwing 2.0, Troika, and Wonder Woman today after a Purolator delay.

Have not opened them but just in the box., I love Troika, and I'm not usually a Kelley Jones fan. The head sculpt is so fun though.

Batwing looks awesome.

Wonder Woman... "This looks like Bea Arthur in Wonder Woman drag," was the SO's reaction.

Yet another reason why having “one guy” in charge is garbage. So tired of being subject to his whims.

It's not like "the suits" and bean counters in the standard corporate structure are infallible either. Mistakes get made all the time.

Oh absolutely fuck the c-suite and fuck corporations.

That said: bigtime fuck manbaby “entrepreneurs” even more.

Honestly, that would wrap up so much of what's left that I want from this line. IF we got those three and Harley I could be like *nod* okay, I'm good. (There's a few others but those are the ones who make my shelf feel imbalanced without)

I do hope another Harley is released. I just never got the first one because I always felt it looked animated. I know it wasn't supposed to be Harley from BTAS, but she looked more like the cartoon than the comic to me.

So, I just never got her. I would get Ivy too. I wish Todd would get a comic Ra's Al Ghul out before the line ends, especially if he is releasing Talia.

It's funny cuz I always thought it was supposed to be that look.

The immediate beat that I respect McFarlane accomplishing out the gate was stylizing everything after different artists. That first Batgirl and Nightwing impressed me right away. And I always thought Harley was a miss, but I did think it was intended for the above.

And if Zee, Dinah, and Ivy were not on any of our lists, I must have seen it on a YouTube leak or something because I've had that in my head for months.

All right. Having opened and logged some posing time:

Troika is a great sculpt. But the articulation sucks. It doesn't have butterfly joint range at all, and the upper torso may as well not be there. The shared body figures I have can, so I don't know what's up. I always think of the Jones Batman doing creepy crouches and you cannot do that here due to the upper articulation and the legs. I also didn't realize it was the old one-piece head and neck. I was looking forward to a head swap.

Looks great, cape is wired, but it really reminds me of a figure from 20 years ago, maybe even some of the Mezco, where I just cannot hit the poses. I want to instinctively hit.

Batwing delivers. I love the suits and they executed it well. The glossy black is nice and the eyes and white logo really contrast and pop. It's a glossy bright white, and while I don't think it's glow in the dark, if you take it in a room where there's barely any light at all, it the chest logo at least really throws any light it can find right at you. It's a really cool effect, even if it's unintentional.

His torso range is great. You can get some nice leans and hunches. Thanks to the way the shoulder pads are integrated. Even the butterfly has a nice range, which extends to the whole arm. The wings really do add some drama at certain angles, and he looks up pretty decently, so you can get the flight poses and some cool angled postures.

I love him. I wish he had more Tech accessories and add-ons, and I'm going to look around for anything clip-on or slip-on that would look cool. Another set of hands is automatically desired at this stage, but the fists work.

Wonder Woman is a missed opportunity. I don't like the head sculpt and paint at all. I picked up two just for the paint lottery, and one of them has the old side eye. I'm sure it's unintentional, but it's so side-eye at first I thought we stepped back to that. I also feel like the head might be a touch small.

Like all of his skirted figures you barely get any range, and since Wonder Woman is also hampered at the torso, you're really limited. At least you can cross her arms. She will look cool next to Fleisher, but I'm just going to call her the letdown.

I think coming off of the page punchers Supergirl, which really nailed Bilquis Ively art in 3D, there's an extra bit of disappointment to what this might have been.

Regarding a comic accurate Poison Ivy:

This summer my girls have gotten into my figures a lot. Mainly Star Wars (specifically Princess Leia and Darth Vader) and Batman. The Batman stuff that sees the most play time is the Batman and Robin wave Batman, Batgirl, and Poison Ivy. The girls gravitate toward them the most. In the past I would be here calling for a comic Poison Ivy as well, but now I'm seeing movie Poison Ivy and more and more my mind is able to ditch the "movie" qualifier and she's just Poison Ivy. My need for another is lessened. It helps that she's a dang good figure in general. I would like to see this weird phenomena start to kick in with every other comic book character I have a figure of.

When Todd has produced his final DC figure I'm going to put his DC figures side by side with Mattel's DCUC and there will be.a final reckoning. One will go. Black Canary and Zatanna are going to go a long, long way toward helping Todd.

I can see that. But for myself, “comic accurate” or at least comic inspired is a qualifier. I still read a fair amount of comics per month. Being limited to comic figures helps me with budgeting, storage space, etc. Also helps that other than DC Animated movies and Gunn, I’m not a huge consumer of DC media. Marvel either to be honest. I’m pretty disciplined about it too. I’ve got one “Gaming” figure. New 52 Earth 2 Thomas Wayne Batman. And only because I’ve examined the figure and the corresponding comic artwork and can’t find a dimes worth of difference. Also have PPers Grodd, Atom, Aqualad and Manta which I’ve deemed all to be “close enough”. Beyond that, it’s pretty much all comic figures. But I’m willing to push the limits. That Cowboy Batman certainly wasn’t necessary, but sure is cool to have.

I’ll never really be satisfied with character selection in any line I collect. Especially ones that end somewhat prematurely. Just how I’m built. I want the obscure characters more than I want the top line characters in many cases.

But Zee, Canary, Ivy, and the also rumored Talia and Harley will go a long way to me before Todd closes out.

Whatever happens in whatever time we have left, all I want is to have it be fun. This might be the end of my figure collecting days. Going out with a bang would be nice.

On comics accuracy vs. not, I'm pretty easy - I just need close-enough, or more to the point, can they live side by side with other figures and feel like they belong. I never picked up that first Harley cos she was very obviously in an animated style and I wasn't buying his Dini-style figures at the time (and then never did). I can say, without bitterness, I don't care which variation of Harley he releases as long as she looks like the same laws of physics and human anatomy apply to her as they do to any of the Jokers or Batman figures I might have. I actually think the only Batman I have who doesn't feel like he has the same laws of physics applied to him as the others is White Knight, but even White Knight Jack feels like he'd fit in next to the Walmart Gordon, or close enough.

If movie Ivy weren't so hard to find I could probably use her to fill that spot in the collection and be meh okay about it. But I'd rather not have a specific actor in there - so literally, I don't even need comic accurate, I just need some variation of her that fits in with the other Gotham characters.

Now Dina I do have a VERY strong opinion on which costume she's in if she gets made, and Zatanna too. If the line weren't ending I could see Todd giving us, like, the blue costume-puffy sleeves Dinah first and make us wait for a fishnets/rolled sleeved jacket-black bodysuit look, but hopefully with time running out we'll get some version of her iconic look. And she won't be taller than Green Arrow. Likewise, I'm hoping for the one she's most seen in nowawadays, the black coat/tights/white dress shirt stage magician look, but I could see him doing the Justice League era or black pants with fishnet sleeves look having assumed he could do the other version later on. Bet seriously, jester Harley, roller derby Harley, anything black and red I'm happy as long as she has normal limb-to-torso-and-head ratios.

Classic for Canary and Zee are most likely. I’d personally love Canary in her JSA uni circa 1999 and Zee in her New 52 Justice League Dark costume.
