Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

Have you tried Hickman's run?
To be honest, I couldn't even tell you. It's been a fair few years since I even looked sideways at an F4 comic. To be fair, I don't even like any of the characters, nor do I like almost any of their villains. I don't even like their -costumes-. There's basically nothing there to even grab my attention beyond people telling me I should like them.

Saw a 45 second clip from the "press conference" sequence online on Facebook. Gave away a major plot point I thought, kind of surprised me as I don't see it as something that would sell the movie to casual fans, like Red Hulk might for the last Cap BNW. If you are avoiding spoilers I would try to avoid it if you come across it.

Reed announces they had gone to negotiate with Galactus, and he demanded a price that was too high - Franklin.

That plot point was leaked sometime in the last few months, maybe marvel is finally leaning into the spoilers...

Don't you think there is a big difference in a plot point leaking and confirming it in the marketing...?

I thought fully showing Red Hulk was a huge mistake, they could have alluded to it like the scene on the aircraft carrier where he almost loses it - enough to get the discussion going. Given the effort that was done to hide the Spideys in NWH trailers, and digitally adding Taskmaster to the scene in Avengers tower in the Thunderbolts trailer, I don't get how inconsistent they are with protecting plot points.

Okay, but have you heard of Doctor Doom?

I did say 'almost.' But also... hang on to your butts, fellas... I don't really like Doctor Doom all that much. I don't dislike him. But I'm kind of actively indifferent to him in most of the comic appearances I've seen. I almost feel like Doom is more interesting conceptually than anything else. Like him just existing in the background being Doom is pretty cool. But then he goes out and does things and fights heroes and I'm like. ...ehhh... sure.

And I think part of that is that I just fucking cannot tolerate the F4. I feel like the concept of Doom is wasted on the F4 and he deserves a better class of heroes to pester.

I’ve always felt this way too.
Of course, I was first introduced to Doom through cartoons, where he was always a general Big Bad (usually fighting Spidey, since most Marvel cartoons back then were Spidey), and then through Secret Wars where he was more than a match even for Galactus and the Beyonder. I love classic FF comics (although I like Ben and Sue more than Reed and Johnny, who I mostly think are unlikeable dicks), but yeah Doom seems way too grand to be limited to “FF villain”, although it does have fun irony to me that Doom is so hung up on competing with a guy who is not even remotely in Doom’s league IMHO.

I knew we were friends for a reason.

Doom feels like a really good cosmic villain, as you alluded to. I can see him fighting Nova and Thor. So it's like... he's getting bested by stretchy guy and discount bin Hulk? Wtf?

I actually always felt Doom was too good for the FF as well, but my first exposure to him was Secret Wars where.he proved he could be anyone's arch nemesis.

Okay, but have you considered that the F4 have a guy that can light himself on fire?
