At an improv class I took a young woman said she saw Princess Bride and "it doesn't hold up." We all assumed she had seen it as a kid, but upon further questioning it was revealed she had never seen until a week prior at like 22 years old. That's not a "doesn't hold up."
 
We went to see Jurassic World Rebirth with extended family. No one agreed what their least favorite Jurassic movie is, but everyone ranked this above that.

As I expected, Jurassic World Rebirth opened huge at the Box Office this weekend. Hey, it was a fun summertime popcorn flick. I enjoyed it.

Next weekend, Superman. Two weeks after that, Fantastic Four. And that's when we find out if this "superhero fatigue" thing some people talk about is real.
 
I didn't realize Superman was coming out so soon. Admittedly, I'm not too terribly excited (not a big James Gunn fan) but I'll definitely check it out. It can't possibly be worse than the DCEU.
 
We watched K-Pop Demonhunters on Netflix the other night. If you've read any of my film criticisms and wondered if there are actually any movies I do like, wonder no more. This movie was a lot of fun and everybody really enjoyed it. It's got a Spider-verse + Ghibli vibe to it and a few catchy tunes wrapped around a subtly scathing rebuke of Korean "hide it away" culture. As a not-so-secret fan of K-Pop, I personally enjoyed a lot of the references, too.
 
Finally watched Sinners and yeah, I really enjoyed it and then the post-credits scene just sealed the deal for me.

Look, I freely admit, I am a hopeless romantic so seeing
Mary & Stack show up decades later just to chat with Sammy and hear him play one last time absolutely delighted me. I was so thrilled they both made it, even if they've been snacking on god knows how many folks over the years. Live your best (un)lives, you adorable kids.

Also, I am never, ever inviting anyone inside ever. Just in case.

A Field in England - was hoping for Eggers vibes but it was more "student film" vibes. Some genuinely funny moments, but overall it was a miss for me.

The director went to my school so I feel kind of bad saying it but I dislike near enough everything of his I've seen. The only film he's done that I did enjoy was Free Fire.
 
Watched Kpop Demon Hunters the other day, it was a lot of fun. I'd watch more of that.

Watched Sinners tonight and really enjoyed it. A bit goofy, but that's not a bad thing.
 
Rewatched Unforgiven last night. First time I’d seen it since it came out. Still holds up in my opinion.

Finally got around to watching The Lighthouse and Parasite over the weekend.

Willem Dafoe is just brilliant in pretty much everything he does.

For some reason I had thought Parasite was a supernatural thriller going in. I was really wrong about that but I loved it.
 
I'm a Greg Rucka fan, so had read The Old Guard comics as singles when they came out. The first Netflix movie was decent, lots of dialogue directly lifted. So I was moderately looking forward to Old Guard 2 and wow... it's a steaming pile of shit. Like Highlander 2 bringing in aliens level of bad.
 
I enjoyed the first Old Guard movie as well. Will probably be skipping the new one.

Watched Dark City (1998) last night. Was not a fan from the get-go, but I hate-watched the rest. 2.5 stars out of 5.
 
I think I've brought this up before, but I've noticed severe disinterest for me when it comes to sequels to movies I REALLY enjoyed. I think it goes back to how much I didn't like the Bourne sequels and wish I'd left it at Bourne Identity. So I haven't watched John Wick 2 etc, and not sure I'll watch Accountant 2 either.

I can honestly say, and I have a nearly photographic memory for stories, I have no idea if I ever got around to watching the third John Wick movie. I got 35 minutes into the second one before realizing I'd already seen it. I get the appeal but for me to forget I saw a movie is pretty much unheard of. Like I can quote dialogue from Monsters Ball and I saw that in the theaters once.
