DC Studios Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

I'm in the theater waiting for the show to begin.

The lights are dimming.

The curtains are parting.

A hush falls over the assembled crowd.

Hold me.
Yeah, I usually go to my local indie theater, and I try to go weekday during the day because I'm very particular about... How rude people are lately in theaters.

Anyway. That usually means not a lot of people. This was almost a full house at 2:00 p.m. on a Thursday.

David Corenswet makes a great Superman & Clark. Krypto is fun as can be. I really enjoyed the movie for the most part. My one nit would be the tone changes weren't as smooth to me as they were in GOTG.

Let me just say this and then you can talk amongst yourselves: Now that I've seen this movie, I have to say that I can't see anyway that the Matt Reeves Batman crosses over into the DCU. Reeves' Batman and James Gunn's Superman are so tonally different that pairing the two characters up in a movie would be too much of a stretch. The Reeves series of Bat films will have to remain an Elseworlds. James Gunn will have to create his own take on the Caped Crusader.

Movie audiences are going to have to deal with the fact that there are two versions of Batman appearing in films concurrently. I don't think that will bother most people. I think fans are savvy enough to figure out one is an Elseworlds. Just space them far enough apart so they don't step all over each other. It won't be good for The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold to come out two months apart.

I mean you've all seen The Batman. Can you imagine Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight coexisting in a world with a flying dog wearing a red cape? Or a man with a green power ring? I just don't see it.

Now I could be wrong. God knows it wouldn't be the first time. Reeves and Gunn could be planning something right now for all I know. After all, we live in a world where the Punisher once crossed over with Archie Andrews and the Riverdale gang. I kid you not. I never read it, but I can just imagine Frank meeting Betty and Veronica at the Chock 'lit Shoppe for a malt and then mowing down a bunch of wiseguys with his AK-47. After that, anything else wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

I want to see the Reeves Batman continue. I loved that movie and I loved the Penguin series on Max. I'm also intrigued by the thought of the James Gunn take on Batman. So really no matter what they decide it's win win.

That's my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. Which probably isn't two cents.

We'll probably get some mix of Brave and the Bold/Neil Adams/Morrison JLA/JLU Batman.

He exists. He's had a career. He'll probably be in black and blue, be bros with Superman, and still handle business.

We've had Dark, Serious, Grounded. This movie and the cartoon series have a consistent universe tone.

Also, if you haven't picked up Archie meets Jay and Silent Bob, I recommend. It was perfection.

Saw it last night. It was ok. My hopes were high, but I don’t think they were met.

Casting was excellent. All actors played their parts well. Actually could have used more Lois, Brosnahan is too big a star to underuse. I could have used more Perry White. More Hawkgirl. Both of these actors are excellent and didn’t get enough screen time.

Wasn’t fond of Nick Hoult’s Luthor. He looks too young, and I don’t think his motivation was fleshed out enough for me. I didn’t hate him for the right reasons.

I wish they used more practical effects for Krypto. He looked entirely CGI for the every scene he was in. He was cute, but at times overused and forced.

Overall, I agree that it was the most comic booky movie in a long time. Some campiness I didn’t mind, some wasn’t my favorite. I liked the Kaiju battle, but didn’t get why there were so many onlookers staying dangerously close. Conversely, Metropolis residents managed to evacuate way too quickly for the threat at the climax of the movie.

It was awesome seeing Mr Terrific, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Rex Mason, even the Engineer in action. Love how they’re fleshing out a metahuman existence, even with the opening preface of threes.

I need to let it simmer more, but so far this is only a B- to me, where I was banking on an A+.

Gunn has said the DCU Batman will be a different Batman from the onset.

Does Mr. Weatherby try to fuck them?

Looks like I'll be able to see Superman today! Are there after credit scenes? Just a " yes" or a "no" , please.

Been really nice seeing all the good reviews, especially from die-hard fans. It makes me even more excited to see the movie, and I've never been a Superman fan. But if such diehards are enjoying the new take, then surely someone like me will too. Really excited that the DCCU is supposedly starting off on such a strong foot; makes me excited for all the movies (and figures I don't have room for) to come.

Well, no. That's not exactly what he said. He said it's "not likely" that Pattinson would stay on as the DCU's Batman.

"It would be a consideration. We’d have to think about it," Gunn said during a recent Rolling Stone interview. "We’d have to think about it. It is not like we’ve never discussed it. I would never say zero [chance], because you just never know. But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all."

I thought it was always the plan for the Brave and the Bold to be the DCU's Batman. How many damned Batmen are we gonna have at the same time now?

Two, it looks like. The Matt Reeves version and the James Gunn version.

Matt's Batman will be an Elseworlds and part of his "Epic Crime Saga" that includes the Penguin series.

The James Gunn created Batman will be a part of the DCU.

I think it's a lot, but whaddya gonna do? I'd hate to see the Reeves movies get cancelled. I really liked the first one. And that Penguin series was great.
