Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

Two other points about Shalla. One I heard MCUCollector24 mention in his review but that wasn't visible in his video is that there is a very subtle orangish hue to her paint job similar in color to her base. You can't see it in most pictures and it's hard to notice at first, but if you look closely with her in hand you can see it. The other thing is that I thought her eyes were just silver paint until I got her, but there are light irises actually painted into the eyes. I didn't notice it at all until my son mentioned it, and even then I had to get her close to my face to actually see that detail because it's so subtle.

Here's a pic with the flash on to exaggerate both features. The orange highlights don't look anything like the pic below that makes the orange almost look like stain lines, but you can't see it at all in most pics so I distorted it to make it more visible. The flash also makes the irises more clear.
I'd noticed the kinda rusty metallic sheen to her before, but the Irises were something new I noticed for the first time last night. From afar, it just kinda looks like her eyes are all one color, but the closer you get, the more you see the irises, which I thought was super cool. At first I just worried my eyesight was starting to go, but a few of my friends said the same. Really cool little detail.

Felt like sharing a little backstory on Shalla-Bal too since most of the audience will end up assuming that she's a simple gender flip of Silver Surfer. She first became a herald of Galactus in What If? #37 from 1982, but she wasn't silver and her name was Starglow as shown from a page from that issue included below.

It seems fairly clear from what we've seen so far and from what we saw in the Thunderbolts after-credits scene that this version of the Fantastic Four come from a different universe than the 616, so having the film's herald also be Silver Surfer's wife from an alternate universe story seems like a an intentional congruence.

IMDB isn't calling her Silver Surfer so we'll have to wait and see how they refer to her in the film. Similar to the way that Multiverse of Madness never referred to Shuma-Gorath verbally since they lost the rights to that name I'm guessing they never call her Silver Surfer in the film at all, and if they had made her gold/yellow like they did in What If? then most fans familiar with the comics would also mistakenly assume she was Frankie Raye instead of Shalla-Bal.

We'll have to wait and see how the film actually handles her. Seems like they intend her to be a mix of Silver Surfer and Starglow, but maybe that ends up being wrong and we get a fair amount of back story for her, who knows.

Oh, we're doing Sony Spidey films wishlists as well? Cause there are a LOT of figured I'd want from those. 😂

My live-action Marvel collection does not discriminate. Would love to include Dunst's MJ, Stone's Gwen, Hardy's Eddie Brock, Johnson's Cassandra Webb, Sweeney's Julia, Merced's Anya, O'Connor's Mattie, ATJ's Kraven, DeBose's Calypso, and yes, even Leto's Morbius. Even though I haven't seen a few of those movies.

And from the MCU Spider-Man movies, I still want a Shocker and Aunt May!

The toy is calling her Silver Surfer and so were trades when she was cast, so she is Silver Surfer within this movie. I wil be shocked if they never call her that in the movie. I see her more as a mix of Nova and Surfer than I do Starglow and Surfer for movie purposes.

I know across social media, a lot are trying to excuse this as she is a placeholder and we will get the REAL Surfer later, and I simply don't see this being the case. We are not going to be doing this Galactus story in the "proper" MCU again. Further, Norrin would have to be introduced essentially again. So you'd be doing a Surfer origin story yet again, and I can't see the story economics there cause if you plan on Surfer being a pillar of your MCU, and you're doing the Surfer origin that's iconic now, why not streamline it and make it THAT Surfer and have them just cross over whenever the FF do? Just having this version be a one and done by design doesn't make any sense to me. I guess unless this one never redeems themselves or whatever.

Only way I see the future of Surfer not being this version is if Marvel/Disney pivot cause of negative reception/backlash. But as of now, I think the intent is that this is our Surfer moving forward.

If not Silver Surfer, why Silver Surfer shaped?

Yeah, methinks this is another case of toxic fanboys having a kneejerk reaction in order to cope with the fact that a female is existing in a space they think a male should exist in. A lot of folks who are supposedly huge Silver Surfer fans didn't even know of Shalla Bal's existence until it was explained to them, so I don't know how much weight their opinions really hold. Then again, this is a humanoid alien who surfs around basically naked and has no discernible genitalia, so it kinda feels silly to argue anyway.

I look forward to many of those same naysayers saying that Silver Surfer was their favorite part of the movie and pretending like they never had anything against her. Happens every time.

So Walmart sent what I thought was one mystery figure, but turned out to be four figures in separate packages. 1x each Johnny, Torch, Reed, and Sue. So with my Amazon order partially delivered (1x each Johnny, Torch, Reed, Surfer), I’m one away from completing this wave. Will probably keep a set unopened. So far haven’t opened any, waiting for Thing to arrive.

So now that I have what I have, I checked my order status on WM. It originally consisted of just five figures, which is all they had listed at the time. And not even individually identified, just numbered. So I didn’t know who I was ordering. Well, the listing for at least the final figure in my order that hasn’t shipped has been updated to say Silver Surfer. Which means WM never listed the Thing. I guess he’s the popular one from this set? Because on Amazon he’s OOS to preorder. I can’t find a listing for Ben at WM either. I really don’t care for instances when one figure is more elusive than the rest. Especially to complete a small team like this.

I do get the sense that The Thing will be the most popular figure. I have my order in on Amazon, but he hadn't moved from the 16th estimate. Torch just shipped though. Just waiting for Sue and Ben to ship now

I watched Thunderbolts again and I really wonder if Ghost and Bucky were held back for Doomsday. Taskmaster.... I dunno. Maybe in nine years.

The weird thing is that if we're believing the leaked list, they're NOT in the Doomsday wave.

I really hope we get a 2-pack of them eventually.

He's up on the site: https://www.walmart.com/ip/FANTASTIC-4-LEGENDS-FF-4/14930559992

I'd pre-ordered back when the listings went up super early as well, and Ben was left out of that assortment for whatever reason, but I believe when they went up for pre-order everywhere, he was put up.

I am betting we will get them in their Doomsday gear eventually. Just might be when Secret Wars comes out or maybe after. I am assuming we will get further Doomsday/SW figures after the fact
