McFarlane DC Multiverse

BAH. Just saw on a McFarlane Toys group I'm in on Facebook that NML Batman's cape isn't wired. He he has it in hand overseas. That bums me out. I've gotten use to it so disappointing when it doesn't happen.
Well if that’s true I’ll probably have to scratch him. The wired cape was pretty much the reason I was getting him.

I’m not terribly disappointed though. Todd is probably going to ramp up his output in this last year. Trimming the excess can only help my budgetary bottom line. Especially with surprise variants like that New 52 Superboy popping up out of nowhere. I expect more of those coming soon.

On the New 52 subject, although the stories weren’t great, the costume designs were sometimes inspired. Artists were encouraged to stretch and be bold and daring. Sometimes it paid off. I couldn’t tell you what the New 52 Teen Titans comic was about. But I love my Tim Drake/Red Robin figure. And I really want a New 52 Wonder Woman.

Nu52 is my least-favorite era of DC costumes of all time. Some of the looks got better when not drawn by Jim Lee (sorry Jim!), but some, like that Superboy, are unsalvageable for me regardless of artist.

But fun toys are fun toys. I’ll grab em.

Agreed about Lee not drawing his own designs. Somehow, others made them work better.

Dunno why, but the red on black Superboy has always appealed to me. Glad he’s getting done and that it’s a variant. I still think we need a Clark as classic Superboy before Todd closes out.

New 52 Wonder Woman is my favorite. Not so much the costume although I think the silver accents are underrated. It’s the story she was in. Azzarello and Chiang gave us a masterpiece in my opinion. I know it’s controversial in some circles, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it’s an understated question in all of fiction…”what are the gods of mythology doing today?” Azzarello and Chiang tried to answer it.

However, some of the best (my opinion only) costume designs came out of New 52 Earth-2. The one and only Nicola Scott crushed it. Flash, Dr. Fate, and Hawkgirl come immediately to mind. Love to see Todd dig into that, but with limited time left, I dunno if it’s gonna happen.

Got notification that digital Superman is about to hit my POL. I was starting to wonder if it was going to happen.

Wait is this for the Superman that comes with the Godzilla figure? Or was there another one that I wasn’t privy to?

Yep, I bought that "phygital" one. In my opinion, it's the best Superman that McFarlane has done. It came in the same wave as classic Dr. Fate and Two-Face. It's a good one! All of those figures are.

I ordered Two Face as well and he is inbound too. I'm not super excited about him because they thought about giving him accessories and said, "meh.......nah", I almost didn't get him. But he is a core classic Batman rogue in classic form that we're probably not getting another of so they got me. I don't have much connection to Dr. Fate so I passed.

The Gordon I was able to order in stock from Walmart got canceled three days later. Walmart and McFarlane, making it harder than necessary to get action figures since...
(Went over to eBay to see what he was going for these days and the number of people trying to offload the black and white version is wild.)

Out of frustration, I resorted to ebay for Shayera/Hawkwoman. Two days before they were discovered at the Wal Mart endcaps. Making for a sharp drop in ebay prices too. Ugh. Impatience gets me every time. And unlike GameStop, the Platinum seems to be a 1/1 variant at Wally’s. I did find Strange Lives/Lion head Superman at CMD for a much more reasonable price. Of course, no Superman Red. Thing about any of the Strange Lives figures on ebay is that most of them are coming from overseas. Prices are coming down, but shipping is the killer.

Page Punchers wave goes up for preorder 7/2/25. GA Wonder Woman and RotS Superboy for sure. Red Platinum Steve Trevor and regular Platinum New 52 Superboy are both in this wave. Mr. Bones/Obsidian in the on deck circle (allegedly).

It's likely that the decision was more about $$$ and global distribution channels. However I'd also like to believe that Todd's "chase" mentality kind of blew up in his face as well. Honestly it kind of seems like a fluke that McFarlane got this line in the first place and may have just been a temporary message to Mattel.

I'm getting close to resorting to ebay for Jade and James Gordon myself. I'm starting to feel like the window has closed at retail. I've learned that if I don't get something at pre-order then I'm usually screwed. Those two figures were offered in what must have been the most limited of quantities for pre-order at all of Gamestop, McFarlane Toy Store and Walmart and I was unsuccessful at all and have never seen them anywhere at physical retail. Silver Age Bizarro was a similar situation, but I'm not as worried about that figure because I have the two prior McFarlane Bizarro figures. I missed the Target for pre-order for Kite-Man as well so I'm hoping that I don't eventually have to resort to ebay for him also (like I had to for Geo-Force). I want Kite-Man more than any of those other figures that I just mentioned.
