C.O.P.S. 'n Crooks

So, the ownership rights are murky. Hasbro just kind of doesn't care, really. Not enough to pursue it. And you'll notice that the names are changed ever so slightly. INSPECTOR Bulletproof.

So it's Bulletproof Vess, but it's not Bulletproof Vess. You know?

Okay, so my understanding is it's less BigBad and more Fresh Monkey making these decisions. BBTS is just kind of the distributor. I will try to get clarification, but it really sounds like Fresh Monkey skirts legalities, kind of like Ramen.

BBTS doing a line of full on Red Shadows was surprising and honestly questionable as much as I like them.

Curious where this goes because there’s more weirdness with this IP because Cops and Crooks is somewhat legally distinct from COPS from what I understand. Idk this is a toyline that I don’t have a deep knowledge of

Crap. I just showed the first episode to my son yesterday, explaining that I watched it at his age. I was surprised how well some of the concepts and animation held up. And of course I had the figures as a kid. Dammit. I’m gonna buy some copaganda figs huh? Yup.

Except they didnt do that actually. The Crimson Moon figures are deliberately packaged so that the in package characters are not the same as any old Palitoy figures.

They do include alternate heads or accessories packaged with different characters that when assembled will resemble the Red shadows figures. But the names and packaged characters are not actually any previous character and so not violating copyright or trademark.

It still appears that wasn't enough to avoid a warning letter from Hasbro, but that may have been for show and to establish that they defend their intellectual property more than any actual move to stop them. I'm not sure they are actually crossing the line

I kind of want to get in on this line. Cops N Crooks is one of those lines I remember so well as a kid. I remember the toy line and the cartoon. But oddly, I never had any of the toys. And even though I have a bunch of vintage toys now from all kinds of lines and properties, I still don't have any Cops N Crooks.

Thats how it was for me and Street Sharks. I remember the toys and the show, but never had the toys as a kid, and didn't buy any vintage Street Sharks as an adult. But then Mattel let out the Retro Street Sharks, and I got them all. I kind of feel like going that route here with Cops N Crooks from BBTS. And Bulletproof is always the character I like most from this property.

yeah.......I need to pre order this bastard.

I’m missing Sundown and Bulletproof from the original line, a complete Bulletproof was expensive, I’m assuming he still is.

Of course Vala would have a stake in this.

Comedy gold.
I've only peripherally followed any of the Vala drama but nothing I've heard makes me thrilled to hear there's some weird involvement there.

I'm as big a part of it as anyone, but man stuff like this wouldn't happen if new original IPs made as much money as nostalgia picks. (I whinge about this as I wait for dozens of remakes of toys from my childhood shipping from like four different vendors this week)

That website is fun. Looking at the archives, I realize I had Long-Arm, Bullet-Proof, Highway, Berzerko and Rock Krusher. I loved those figures and I'm shocked that I didn't have more of them in retrospect.
