Masters of the Universe: Masterverse

Yeah, like NORM said, where did you get those? You are talking the Wave with New Eternia Teela and Hordak?
How did you like the other figures in the Wave besides Teela?
I don’t know why I said teela. I *meant* she-ra…. I think I was reading the posts about teela from the movies and got my heroic women mixed up.

Sorry about that.

But still, we are going to be getting Masterverse figures of this Movie, and I just wondered what you thought. Having seen the actress Camila Mendes as Teela in her movie attire, I think she will make a cool figure.
Has this been confirmed anywhere?

It'll take some stellar designs to get me to really want new movie figures, but I am open to being convinced given how good this line is otherwise.

I'm not stoked for the idea of time + money going towards movie sculpts over NE or Vintage. How often do movie figures in a toyline turn out better than designs created for toys? I'm lowkey nervous this could lead to the line's downfall.

I mean.. I fuckin' love the '87 movie figures they're making so... could be good? I think ultimately the biggest element of whether it works or not is going to be how good the movie costumes are and how believable people find those actors as those characters. Assuming Mattel otherwise translates all of those elements properly, of course.

I am super excited about the new movie while also having some serious misgivings about the storyline direction they chose. But we'll see what happens.

Hopefully they release movie figures like they do the others. No BAF to force us to buy a whole wave, some NE, movie, and vintage releasing at the same time. I think they'd be fools to abandon those other two themes for an untested movie, but... corporations have made even bigger mistakes.

My understanding is that the rebrand will not mean Mattel is ONLY making movie figures, nor will it mean an overall change in release strategy. We'll just have different box-art and movie figures will be the majority of a wave (or the majority of a year's releases, I'm not sure). Not a lot different from how they handled the Netflix show merch.

I hear they're being more tentative with movie merch for this movie as the Revelation figures didn't sell gangbusters and all the unique merch for the Kids' Netflix show utterly tanked. Mattel is, apparently, open to the idea of less being more here and not doing a giant action figure blitz leading up to the release of the film.

Again, all to my understanding.

I hope less is more is the approach. I have nothing, zero, nada against them pushing movie figures into the Masterverse line, it makes good business sense. But I wish them luck that they can have as much success with these movie figures as they had with 87, cos man I've been trying to find Beastman for MONTHS and I definitely overpaid for Langella Skeletor when I changed my mind about wanting him. Those guys sold for sure.

(EDIT: And if the movie is awful, I wouldn't hate being able to buy half or 1/3 of a wave for a few months to save some scratch.)

For sure. As long as the quality remains consistent from regular Masterverse figures we have now to new movie figures - I don't see a problem unless people just fucking hate the movie or the movie designs (or both).

I'm so mad that I can't find Masterverse Blade aaaaaanywhere now. Sold out all over the place. Literally my favorite character from my favorite movie and can I have one? No. Because I was too belligerent to just fucking pre-order him when I had the chance. I was trying this new 'fiscally responsible' thing where I don't pre-order items and only buy something when it's available and the money is in my account to grab it. Stupid stupid stupid.

I intentionally skipped Blade because he wasn't a character who stuck with me, but I'm mad as hell at myself over Beastman cos he's one of my favorite villains and now want one of each variant they make of him. I think the only one I got easily at the appropriate price was Evil-Lyn.

I got Beast Man so effortlessly that I wish I'd just grabbed two so I could force someone to give me their Blade. Haha.
