G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

I made myself go through (the currently not actively displayed portion of) my toy collection today. Digging through totes to see what's what.

I've mentioned either here or elsewhere that most of my collection is not displayed right now as I try to decide -how- I want to display things. And where. My entire on-display collection is everything I have from MOTU Chronicles, two Savage Crucible figures (Conan and Elric), and whatever my newest pick-ups are. In this case that's the BBWS adventure guy with the snake, and Ninja Force Zartan, T'JBang, and Scarlett. I've also got a few figures displayed downstairs in the living room amongst our books; both KS Spawn figures and a Mezco King Conan.
I also went ahead and took out Slice and Dice again so I can have a 'complete to current year' Ninja Force display. And I took out Jada Ken, because Vega is currently on his way from BBTS.

So anyway... all that is to say that -everything else- is currently in totes. So being in totes does not automatically mean it's stuff I don't care about. I just don't want to be overwhelmed with overfilled shelves while figuring out a longer term plan for the displays. In a perfect world, I could just say 'if it's in a tote, that means I don't care enough to display it and it can go.' But alas.

I did really force myself to go through my Joes again and I impressed myself with the restraint I've shown over the last few years of truly stellar releases. There's only a handful of figures I've decided that I bought more because the figure was cool than because I have any strong attachment to that character/costume.

But I did decide that Croc Master, Lowlight, Cobra-La Royal Guard, Leatherneck, tattooed Rock N Roll, and the Action Soldier are all gonna go. Also, gonna get rid of NECA astronaut Donatello and a couple Super7 Turtles figures. It wasn't that long ago in my collecting journey that an honest-with-myself purge would have filled an entire tote.

I'm mentioning this here and not as a general thing because I'm specifically really impressed with how few Joes I've picked up, and how few Joes I want to get rid of after owning them for any length of time. This line is SO GOOD that it's been super difficult to say 'I just don't really need X.' But I've mostly managed to do it and that's largely because so many of you post great photos and stuff that I don't feel like I'm missing out by skipping a really great figure that I don't actually care much about.

In other news, while I was going through stuff I tried the white tiger T'Jbang head on v2 Storm Shadow. It looks stupid. But I think that's just because that head looks stupid and there's really no saving it.

Scarlett's head sculpt is also absolutely gorgeous. Like... no wonder SE and Duke were both all over her. Poor girl probably can't walk into a coffee shop without getting three phone numbers and a marriage proposal.

I would be one of the phone numbers, if I even got the nerve to talk to her. Just saying.

Well, if anyone ends up with an extra set somehow, as well as possibly Ninja Zartan, I would happily buy them. I will try when the set goes up in stock on the 19th but I dunno if ill be able to nab one or not.

Like... lower and a bit longer on the right side of his face? Yeah, I think he's supposed to be like that because he's sort of making a face, rather than being totally neutral.
Ok. It doesn't give me that impression, but I appreciate the clarification. I'm relieved that I don't need to contact CS for a replacement, and disappointed that I can't contact CS for a replacement.

Yeah. He's got a quirked eyebrow and is kind of twisting his lips. Like he's concentrating on tracking or wondering how Snake Eyes can pull Scarlett.

Overkill arrived. One my top wants, the original was one of many divorce rewards my mother bestowed upon me weekly, and he was my go to Joe killer after I discovered the magic of eyeglass screwdrivers and removed his talkie backpack.

The colour scheme. The robot head. The see through chest with the flip out gun. The claw and gun hands. So cool.

My initial ten minute impression is a let down.

Who the hell made the call on that mask? In what world is it even designed to stay in on paper. There's no tension. No interlock. Nothing. It's held on by prayer and a Mary Magdalene candle.

Machine gun in the chest was crooked, and also impossibly tight to flip. Thought I'd break it on the first deploy. I did a quick heat treatment to uncrook the gun barrels, which worked, but now the machine gun has no friction at all and dangles down. The fix is on me, but even out of the box it was below par.

At first I thought I would want to because my neurodivergence would never allow me to glue or putty the mask on, I would have to have one that I could permanently glue and another unadorned. It's not a fun problem. But now I need a second anyway just to see if the machine gun also sucks on that. I'll try the usual joint tightening fixes regardless.

It's all addressable. This isn't like the worst figure in the world. But for one of my favourites, blarg.

And this is also the second true disappointment I've ever had with them at all, the first being my Zanya's both breaking at the same arm. But that figure looked good. That was just a breakage. Overkill is the first I've ever looked sideways at their execution.

Especially coming off of Scarlett and Dawn last week.

I'm not mad, Hasbro. I'm disappointed.

FATALITY!

I get it. It just hits different when it's a favorite. You're on your knees in the rain, screaming at the sky 'Why, God, Why THIS one?!'

Don't you come after my nana like this.

I don't know if it's helped any of you, two in a row where I expected they would recolor it on a retro card and we've still got nothing.

Okay, the mask is still dumb but I will walk it back a little. There's a tiny tab that jams into the open part of his mouth.

Surprisingly sturdy once I finessed the correct angle and pressure.

Filing this bit of useful information away for when I finally get mine.
