The Countdown To SDCC 2026!

It is astounding how much money they make charging for cards in 2026.

I work part time at my comic shop on weekends, and I'm amazed by how much we make on card games. I'd say it's 70 percent of our total sales. Pokemon and Magic are especially hot.

I get that people like having something to collect, but 7.99 to 10.99 a pack? Man, I don't get it.

Let’s face facts…did you ever think you’d pay $4.99 for a comic? I sure as shootin’ didn’t.

Yeah, I was just thinking while I was out taking my walk that we pay close to 30 bucks for Legends figures now. I remember when they were 5.99 and I know inflation hasn't gone up THAT much.

I know that's made a lot of us, myself included, a lot pickier about which ones we buy.

Invincible changed everything. It made Creature Commandos viable. It inspired X-Men ‘97. I’m hoping for a lot more of this type of stuff. Don’t really care about who makes it either. Can you imagine a Marvel Man cartoon based off the Moore comic? It’s an insane premise. So just do it.

Interesting that you should mention Marvelman. I was just thinking about that character the other day.

I would love to see a Marvelman (Or Miracleman if you prefer) figure in the Legends scale. I keep meaning to ask the team about that at SDCC and I keep forgetting. I need to do it this year.

I know that the rights situation with these characters is ... murky, to say the least. My understanding is (And I could be wrong about this) Marvel is licensing the rights from the estate of the character's creator, Mick Anglo.

There have been teases of the character showing up in the Marvel Universe (The Timeless One Shot in 2021 being an example) and the original series was supposed to be concluded with Book 6: The Dark Age to be written by Neil Gaiman, but then there were the sexual misconduct allegations against Neil so that got shelved.

Yeah, this whole thing has been a mess from the get go. But Miracleman was one of greatest and most important comics published in the 80's and I truly loved those stories, as brutal as they were. A figure would be cool. Not the end of the world if it never happens, but it would be cool.

But ... I don't see Hasbro wanting to get involved in this legal quagmire, so I believe the answer is going to be a firm "no".

Can't blame 'em, really.

I could certainly go for Marvelman. Rocketeer is another in the gray area based on Disney holding some media rights. I’d love to see them at least take a shot. But we did get Rom. Maybe it’s time to try for the Micronauts. Or the Human Fly.

Man, I want both so bad!

Yes, Micronauts and the Human Fly are among the things I want to talk to Dan and Dwight about.

Also, I want to see a threeway crossover in the comics between Indiana Jones, the Rocketeer and the Invaders set during World War II. Red Skull, René Belloq and Baron Zemo as villains. Guest appearances by Nick Fury, the Howling Commandos and Peggy Carter.

And while I'm dreaming, let's just throw in Green Hornet, Kato, Flash Gordon, the Shadow and Doc Savage. I mean hell, Disney owns everything at this point, right?

When I was in single digits, I used to draw my favorite super heroes and villains on paper and cut them out for my own action figures. The first one I actually used paint instead of crayon was The Human Fly.

I don’t know what the legality might be, and I certainly don’t think Hasbro or Mattel can help, but I’ve always thought a unified line of pre comic heroes would be so much fun. Tarzan, Doc Savage, Phantom, Conan, Shadow, Spider, Lone Ranger, Dick Tracy, Mandrake, John Carter, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and so many more in one lineup.

One stipulation is that they beat Superman into publication.

The Immortals. I like it.

Add Solomon Kane to the lineup!

I feel it has become almost like gambling with the valuable, super valuable, and life changing chase cards. You pay your $10 and usually get cards "worth" $1 but you could get cards "worth" $100 or $1,000 or more.

Maybe it’s time to try for the Micronauts.
Seems like such low hanging fruit for them, not sure why they ignore it...

Same reason they have for ignoring the OG Guardians of the Galaxy. None. We need Charlie 27, Martinex, Nikki, and Starhawk minimum. Between Crystar and Iceman, Martinex is a layup. Plenty of parts already exist for the rest.
