Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

Oh, and this must be acknowledged: Brian May soundtrack? Chef’s kiss!
I've been listening to some of the soundtrack already on YouTube and it's very good even out of context.

So I saw a video review (non-spoiler) and they mentioned Rotten Tomatoes. So I just checked and it is at 72% (down from 75%), but that is good because it is certified fresh. So hopefully it can outperform the weekend estimate.

Tri-Klops has one line of dialogue I remember - "I have eyes on the sword."

Beast Man has some good lines, Evil Lyn has great lines, but Skeletor has the best lines.
Oh yeah I forgot that.

And yeah Trap Jaw is really cool on the villain side.

I've seen a few people bagging on the film say the CG sucks; Other than a couple of times with Cringer where he doesnt look QUITE there, and one shot of Duncan that looks a bit off, I thought the CG was pretty good. And the fights are great, with the various characters using their powers. Ram Man has a couple of launches that looked kick ass.

The only time I felt the CG was maybe noticeably off was
the character in the first post credit scene but that may have been intentionally more cartoony
.

I'm trying to be vague even behind the spoiler tag but you may be able to figure it out so click at your own risk if you haven't seen the film yet.

Also, now I've seen it I'm gonna be broke. Just ordered the Hot Toys figures and will probably pick up the core cast in Chronicles as well.

People will trip over their own dicks to say MOTU's CG sucks but also sit there and praise Black Panther, which had possibly the worst CGI final battle I've ever seen in any movie, ever. With all the good vibes MOTU is getting, it feels like there's a subset of people out there DESPERATE to find something to shit on it about just so they can be edgy outsiders.

Oh, there will be people trashing this movie. It’s not perfect. I’ve been having a private convo with @The Scream Man and we’ve been talking about some of the odd plot and pacing choices. But overall, I think we agree that the positives outweigh the negatives. In general, people do need to get over themselves and stop resisting having fun.

Coming out of the movie, I think my biggest want, at least as far as unannounced figures go, would be a Chronicles Spikor. Don't know why, but his design just hit that nostalgic sweet spot for me- it was kinda giving borderline high budget Power Rangers, but I really dug it. Even if they don't really do anything in the movie, sometimes you just want a cool looking dude to play around with (take that however you will).

I saw the movie last night. The CGI is a little off in parts, but it’s nowhere near as bad as black panther or honestly a lot of the more recent MCU movies that had some truly terrible CGI.

I mostly enjoyed the movie, but it’s definitely not perfect. It’s enjoyable if you have nostalgia and the after credit scenes I thought were worth it.

However I do think the running time is too long and i would have figured out how to edit like 30 minutes out of it to get it under 2 hours.

I also didn’t like the way the movie was scored. Theres no dead space in the sound track, the music is literally almost constant in every scene no matter what is happening…. And its mostly just like different versions of the movie theme for different moods.

If you’re in this thread, don’t get me wrong you’ll enjoy it, but maybe my expectations/hopes were too high

Just saw it the movie. Overall the movie disappointed me. It's like they had all the right pieces but couldn't build the puzzle correctly. The script is pretty terrible with bad dialog (and bad jokes all around) and the direction seems clueless with terrible pacing. The story itself is decent, the movie could have been good if they had a good script and better direction.

I liked the music, the visual effects, most of the actors were good, Nick was very charismatic and looked the part, some of the action scenes were good, Skeletor was awesome in general, the transformation scenes were great, in general they had some good ideas... but the dialog was terrible, most jokes didn't land, the pacing was all over the place, the movie didn't flow right, the cinematography wasn't great, some scenes were poorly thought out, a lot of the characters were empty and pretty stupid, there were a lot of unfunny cringe-y scenes, and a few of the action scenes were lackluster. And maybe the worst part, I found quite a bit of the movie to be kinda boring.

The movie had like six different writers, which is a bad sign in general, but Travis Knight is a good director, so I'm very surprised at the results. I'm thinking Mattel got heavily involved in the production of the movie, they probably wanted them to add more humor and such. It does kinda feel like they messed with it somehow, like I don't believe this is what the director intended. It feels modified, like a few important scenes are missing, and what remained tried to make up for it and failed.

I was honestly pretty excited for the movie, I have no real connection to the franchise (I didn't grow up with it), but the idea of the movie seemed good, I like the toy designs and figures, and the trailers were pretty good. It had great potential. So I'm very disappointed. I wouldn't say not to watch it, but don't expect much. This is worse than something like Thor Ragnarok, which wasn't that great in the first place, imo.

Unfortunately I don't see this movie doing good enough to garner a sequel. It came out today and my theater was almost empty, and there were no kids, and I went in the afternoon. I honestly really wanted this to be an epic fantasy movie that would really kick the franchise forward and make it really relevant today, as I do really like the ideas here, and of course the figures. But I don't see it happening. What a disappointment.

Soundtrack is up on Spotify and YouTube.

If you've seen the film you know but
"A Job for He-Man hits the nostalgia real hard!"
Already listened to that one on repeat this morning 😁

MILD Spoilers:
The only times I noticed the CG being a little wonky were with Cringer. He just looked a little pasted in occasionally. And the scene of Roboto carrying drunk Drunkan out of the cell Duncan looked pretty odd. But that was it, the rest I thought looked pretty good.
