NECA - General Thread

Yeah, the Wednesday figures are a little rough. It looks more like her second cousin, Monday. Ironically, the Toony Terror looks more like Jenna Ortega than this one. But these seem to be more of the retro cloth type figures, which, in my opinion, always seem to have a much softer likeness, which is why I don't go for them. If they ever did a Wednesday Ultimate, I'd probably grab her, though. I don't need the whole Addams Family from Wednesday (though I wouldn't turn down classic Addams Ultimates), but Wednesday and Enid at least would be nice.

Try to order it again. Thanks to your post, I ordered the open box excellent option a few hours ago and I just got a tracking number.
Interesting. I wonder if there is a regional component to their open box offerings? Maybe I'll take a look later today.

What do they even mean by open box? Are these returns or damaged items? Back when I worked for Circuit City we had open box and it would often be returns that we had tested.

Probably returns and anything where the packaging was damaged during transit or on the shelf to a certain degree. They claim on their website that they include everything and aren't broken or defective, but I'm sure that guarantees nothing. They don't have any return restrictions, so if you get something that is damaged or is a figure swap then you can always return it.

The great thing about BB's open box is when they have sales the OB prices drop as well. I had wanted a 2nd Phantom of the Opera figure to displayed masked and got one for $16. The only damage was a slight box-tear at the hanger (barely noticeable). Contents were mint.

Well, let me know! I was at my Target this morning and they had both Jaws figures and the Predator from at least the first movie- maybe Predator 2. I'm happy to help if need be!
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the offer again to look out for ol' Matty Hooper - I just happened to be sitting at my desk when Target alerted me he was back in stock, so I picked up Hooper and Quint on the spot. Now just hoping they make Brody so I can complete the trio! (I wonder if Roy Scheider's likeness is harder to lock down than the other two gentlemen.)

Strong rumors seem to indicate he (or his estate) had a stipulation that anything featuring his likeness has to be made in the USA. Would explain why we don't have him yet, I guess.

Looks like we're in Con reveal season again:

Do NECA have any production options in the US? Wonder if the Lego figure counts, or if it's a "little guy who looks like a guy" non-likeness.

Probably like POPS or Mini-Mates which just require a general license of the property and not the actor's likeness. I'm sure Neca doesn't produce anything in the US but maybe we will get lucky and Randy will whittle us little Brody's out of wood while sitting on his porch this summer.

Virtually no one has access to a factory in the US capable of outputting an action figure for a mass audience. Probably the absolute best thing they could do is release a generic figure and make a head in the US to sell through their storefront. They would have to get the estate to agree to it though and who knows if they would? The head would also likely be 3D printed or done in a somewhat rudimentary fashion. Very boutique, and probably very expensive relative to what a full figure costs. I'm guessing they've explored all of their options at this point though so they've likely looked into such and, for one reason or another, have ruled it out.

Neca teased this yesterday, from the recent Predator video game. At least this one looks quite a bit different from a lot of their others.

I was able to place a new order for the open box Goliath and Demona set with Best Buy which arrived today. Looks like only the box was damaged. The hanger was ripped off which created a gash down the back and side of the box that had to be taped up, but the figures inside were untouched. Maybe 40 bucks is still a lot for a modest upgrade, and I already had the closed wings for both, but it's definitely better than $70. I also didn't realize until now that these didn't come with the standard wings. Not that I need another set, but how dumb is that? If these had both wing options then it would have made perfect sense for newcomers to the line to just get this two-pack instead of the single versions. And while those wings are much maligned, it's not because they're necessarily hate, it's because they're the only option which becomes untenable for a shelf once you mix in two more figures.

I still maintain that, all things considered, we ended up with a pretty decent array of characters in this line, but it's still not hard to see where NECA bungled things and come to wonder what could have been?
