Finally displayed all my Playmates retro/vintage TMNT stuff. It’s honestly so fun, and I’m glad I have it. As a kid, I had just the Sewer Lair, the van, and just the core heroes and villains. It’s wild to get all this stuff released in the last few years.

Only disappointment is we didn’t get Android Krang and Pizza Face!

It's still upsetting that they shrunk the Technodrome down as much as they did. It feels especially off given they didn't do that to any of the other vehicles or the sewer lair.

Agreed. It doesn't really look right. I don't have a lot of skin in that game since I was never going to get it anyway. But I really do enjoy seeing collection pictures of stuff I love that I can't/won't have for whatever reason. And that one really stands out to me.

I didn’t have the original Technodrome, so I wouldn’t know the difference. I haven’t really fit any figures inside it besides the Remastered Shredder, who’s smaller and more articulated anyway, and Krang. I’m just happy to have a version of it to call my own.

Yeah, I never had the original one, so am just happy to own one at all and to connect to the sewer lair.

I'm genuinely glad that people who got it are enjoying it. Hope we weren't raining on your parade too much there with the negativity. It's a great piece to have, regardless. And I guess the upside is that it takes up a bit less space and is therefore probably a lot more manageable for an adult display rather than a kid who's just going to leave it all over the floor until their parents yell at them.

I guess if I was going to play with it more, it might matter to me. But for them to have shrunk it, they’d have to have made new molds for it, right? That’s a lot of tooling budget to come up with. I wonder why they went in this direction.

I believe they said the original tooling was too badly damaged to be re-used. Why they decided the Terrordrome was important enough to spend the money tooling up a whole new one... dunno. Maybe the retro release line is making them a ton of money. Most of it is literally just using molds that were paid for a thousand times over 40 years ago. It's as close to free money as a company can get that produces an actual physical product.

I think a lot of the vehicles were new tools recreated based off of the vintage ones. Which isn't that much of a surprise since we're talking about tools from the late 80s in most cases. I know the Playmates exec at Toy Fair specifically called out the Foot Cruiser as being from new tools, though since that came after the shrunken down Technodrome he made sure to point out that it was the same size as the old one.

Watching Toy Federation going through a vintage collection and I realized how spoiled I was as a kid. Apparently I had everything, playset and vehicle-wise.

I definitely did pretty well as a kid when it came to toys, but there was always someone with more. It made it extra sweet whenever I got something such a person didn't have.
