NECA - General Thread

Looks like the NECA store put up the Kenner deco Vasquez from Aliens, if anyone is still missing her. Part of me is still hoping I'll luck out and find the normal edition with the big gun for a decent price, but part of me knows that may never be the case, so I'm debating just pulling the trigger.

But at this point, I don't think I'm gonna order anything else from the NECA store until I find out where my poor Ripley is. Still no updating on the tracking.

Got my Quint in the mail today. I never hesitated to order Hooper or Quint despite the likely fact that we're gonna be without a Brody for the foreseeable future. I'll take what I can get, and I'm not even getting the Bruce they're putting out because it's not properly-scaled. If they put a bigger one or a Brody out, I'll be happy, but I'm not going to skip the entire line in the meanwhile.

I'm surprised NECA hasn't done another run of the Aliens Colonial Marines. It's been a long while since they came out, right? In fact, I'm not even sure if they were ever reissued, other than the slightly different 2pack ones. They seem popular enough for another production run. Maybe the license for likeness rights long expired and are too costly (money and time) to go after again.

That really is a good point. I went looking for a Hicks a while back and man, you pay an arm and a leg for a used, beat to hell, not very good sculpt of him right now. I'd commit a minor felony for a Hicks and Hudson and Drake to go with Vasquez.

I don't have any actual insight, but I've been a longtime collector & follower of Neca. I really honestly feel like Fox getting purchased by Disney really put the brakes on their Alien & Predator lines in a major way. The releases ever since then have been really few & far between, with a lot less creative flair or variety. I think Disney is general is just way more restrictive in what a company can do with their licensed properties. So far, I'm glad to see the quality of movies in those franchise has improved from the latest Fox output, but as a toy collector, it really kinda sucks.

I feel like the Disney purchase does have a lot to do with it. Not only did the releases slow way down, but they've pretty much all been only for tie-ins to the current franchise offering.

Oliver Reed Werewolf in all its insane glory.
Oh man, Oliver Reed werewolf is the most meta of castings and the most meta of action figures. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

"I"m not a villain. I've never hurt anyone. I'm just a tawdry character who explodes now and again." I know the man was a train wreck of a human, but I want that on my tombstone.

Just to follow up on this- I still hadn't gotten my order, so I went to check the tracking, and it hasn't updated since May 10th, aside from a little "en route" step that changes every single day to reflect the new date, but no new location. Been stuck in Illinois, which, from the look of things seems to be the warehouse; I figured maybe they just printed the label but didn't actually ship it yet, but the tracking did say it departed the warehouse and nothing since. The other day I went to check the tracking and it still hadn't moved, but there was a notification at the bottom of DHL's site saying "Your package could not be delivered". Don't know if this meant to my place or to USPS, who it was supposed to be handed off to. I reached out to DHL, and of course they say they'll only speak to the shipper, so I reached out to NECA, who replied short and pointedly "Be patient and the tracking will update soon".

Anyone else had something like this happen? I know NECA is notorious for wonky customer service, but they seemed to ignore the points I made about it saying it couldn't be delivered, and I don't want it to get sent back. Next week is 4 weeks since it supposedly shipped; isn't that a little long for a supposedly in-stock item to go just a few states over? By comparison, once I got shipping notices for the NBX bundle and Pamela Voorhees, they were delivered within 5 or so days. I know I don't always spring for the best shipping, but did they strap it to the back of a turtle?

It had been another week without any sort of updates to tracking, so I sent another email to NECA to follow up, just explaining my general worries, and asked as nicely as I could if there was any way they could just reach out to DHL to see what the status and the reason for the "cannot be delivered" addendum was. Their response was the exact same as before, only with "Please" in front of it. Since they put it so nicely this time, I guess I will. 🤪 They obviously know something I don't know, or seem to be playing it off that way, so I guess I'll wait and see. It does strike me as a bit odd that they're being so secretive, but what do I know?

I think Disney left a lot of teams in place when it bought 20th Century Fox. At least it did for The Simpsons. Someone at Disney gets final sign-off permission, but at that point it's supposed to be more of a formality. Unless, of course, you're Super7 and trying to sneak a cigarette into a Krusty the Clown toy. It's also just possible there is only so much to be done with both licenses and that they've just run their course. At lot of that stuff just rotted on shelves around me until NECA took it back.

Really tempted to just get that stupid Detective Broadway since the Gargoyles line is dead and I want the closed wings. I just really wish NECA stuff hit clearance at Target since he's just been sitting there for months at $37.

Whenever NECA finishes up Universal and Hammer, I really hope they do some other monsters. I mean, we've gotten Orlok, but I'd like to see both classic and Cronenberg versions of The Fly. I'd also give up some essential body parts for Monster Squad figures.
