Mattel DC Figures

Interesting that they start with the New 52 version of Supes.
It is. From what I see from there basic figures, with what I like about the articulation of the MOTU Scareglow figure, I think its gonna be hard for me to resist. The only thing that will give me pause is the Era's they choose to lean into and how easy it is to stand them next to my exisitng DC universe classics. I still have those and most of the MCfarlane stuff which I liked, but mostly bought cause I collect. My son who is now 22 really liked the MCF stuff when it started and buying them was something that got us through the pandemic as crazy as that may sound. Now though I have 2 DC collections and probably about to start a 3rd LOL!

Could it be to help differentiate between the two line, the basics will lean a bit more to "modern" looks while the collector line will lean more towards "classic"?

The non-action feature Core Superman is classic, I’m sure they are spreading the “looks” around.

I don't expect to buy too many DC "core" figures from the kids' line, but might get that armored Batman. That looks pretty good!

I do hope that they get to do a bunch of civilian figure at this $12 price point though. Most of my remaining most desired figures in this scale are civvies or unmade LOSH characters with a random Jesse Quick, Weather Wizard, Congorilla or Johnny Thunder thrown in there.

There have been solicits for upcoming books provided by DC that at the end of DCKO starting around July some of the heroes will be going back to the well and wearing their New 52 and Rebirth outfits. Not sure why. But I specifically remember seeing a pic of Batman fighting Bruce Wayne (An homage to the cover of Web of Spider-Man #117) and Batman is wearing his rebirth suit.

I am 53 years old. I said I wasn't gonna start over again. I probably lied.
Hell, I'm 62 and when I saw this Superman even with the minimal articulation I was floored. I'm definitely in for this Superman and the Mecha suit Batman. I'm glad Mattel lost the license when they did it seems to have gave them a wake-up call.

Agreed, I like MCF but didnt love it, In hind sight i wish I was more disciplined. Cause if the basics look this good for Mattel, the collector stuff SHOULD look great. But hey, I collect right LOL!

I’m in that age bracket too. I don’t really want Todd to lose the license, but it’s inevitable and most likely for the best. DC-Warners-Paramount-Netflix-whoever needs someone with a global reach who can get them into other product categories and onto other store aisles. Hopefully, Mattel did receive the message.

I also told myself no new collections after Todd. But I’ve recently started buying some Marvel Legends after years of thinking about it. No team building, no world building, no universe building. Just buying what I like. Sentimental favorites mostly with a handful of cool oddballs I know very little about tossed in. Haven’t read Marvel Comics in years. Decades really. There’s something very liberating about not trying “build”. I plan on taking this approach with the new Mattel/DC line. I imagine it’ll also be very liberating.

My son being 22, and a collector, like his father before him, 😅 We have Marvel Universe, Legends, DC U Classics, McFarlane Mezco and Mafex. Its been expensive and fun sharing it with him. He likes the comic looks surprisingly more than me, I like movie stuff for reasons I wont get into here. We were gonna slow up with the transition to mattel, but when we saw Toyfair we were like, “ Yeah, we are not done” 😂

Toy Fair showed me about what I expected. A lot of stuff that I’m currently not interested in.

If I buy anything from the “kid line” it’ll be Flash, Deathstroke, and possibly Robin. Superman, Batman, and GLC need not apply. Robin is possible as a Titan. And I do like that Waid Worlds Finest inspired costume.

But yeah, I’m waiting to see what the collector line brings.
