Tracking toy tariffs

Yeah...I expected that. We'll see if this goes to the Supreme Court. Which it probably will and I bet they leave the tariffs in place until a hearing later in the year. Take down those Christmas stockings. For now.

Supreme Court rulings are usually easy to predict. It's much harder to say what they'll do here.

Last week, they allowed Trump to fire members of independent agencies, excluding the Federal Reserve. As far as I can tell, the only reasonable explanation for this is a cynical one.

My guess is they'll rule Trump's tariffs illegal. They want him, and his agenda, to be popular. They know that dooming the country's economy will damage the conservative project.

And they'll rule narrowly on just the use of tariffs under the one law and the administration will do tariffs mis-using a different law, and we can start the whole process over again!

From like 8am to 3pm I was sitting here hoping to see BBTS remove their " excluding tariff surcharge " disclaimer from their products. F this S.

Makes me think of this scene:

Hasn't the initial ruling, or the stay, mentioned that the use of the specific laws for the tariffs are the problem and that there are other means to keep enacting the tariffs?

I figure that is what the Supreme Court will do as well. They'll strike down the tariffs on the basis of specific laws while Thomas and Alito will write an opinion with "suggestions" on how they should be enacted.

Yes but I'm sure his advisers came up with what they thought was the most likely way to work first so anything they come up with next is their plan B and so forth, meaning it is even less likely to sway any judges.

One of the judges that ruled against Trump on this one was even a Trump appointed judge.

Yup, and now Trump is ranting on his social media platform that the Federalist Society is to blame for that judge. Normally, it's unnerving when mommy and daddy fight, but not in this case.
"Ranting" doesn't even do it justice. This is President Grandpa's latest tirade. The media will sane-wash this somehow. "President Trump questions judicial decision on tariffs," instead of "Senile madman runs country."

He's right about Leonard Leo, though. Leo is a bad person who hates America.
