G.I. Joe Classified - News & Updates

I kinda like the head canon that all of these generic dudes are those who have been called up from active service to become Joes, but haven't proved themselves yet and earned a code name (and therefore haven't earned the right to -really- customize their gear and uniform yet).
Wait, does that put them above or below the Steel Brigade folks? I feel like if you're in a face-concealing helmet you've got to be pretty low in the hierarchy. Only the top brass get to mug for the camera.

In my personal canon, “regular” soldier guys can become Greenshirts, then they either go straight to the Joes proper or else spend time as the “special ops” Steel Corps.
So like Steel Brigade is a kind of side-grade? Not quite Joes but better than just about everybody else?

Maybe sort of like Special Constables in some police forces?

Like here we have them for things like transit, community outreach, etc. They have similar uniforms and some powers but they don't carry guns and can't enforce all laws like full fledged police officers.

Not sure what that would mean in the context of Joes though. They clearly do missions and such.

My favorite is when they bust out the tape measure and the top of the head is one grad mark above 6 and the guy is like "so it's about 6 and a half inches tall." No, it VISIBLY is not and you don't know how to read a tape measure.
When I first watched Robo, I was annoyed at how detailed he got with the measurements. Now I just find it funny.

@JakeEkiss This is a good explanation as well, but actually not the way my head canon worked.

In my mind, Steel Corps/Steel Brigade are kind of like 'Joe Reserves.' They're top level soldiers/marines that get 'called up' to serve with the Joes for specific purposes, but then get disbanded back to their regular units after the mission is over. They hide their faces because, unlike Joes, they've gotta go back to their units and be regular people again, and don't want their faces on the news or, more importantly, Cobra's computers.

Greenshirts, as said, would be actual Joes-in-training, with the intent of becoming full-time members with all that entails. Although, again just in my own head canon, Greenshirts can also just be support staff. Either people that couldn't make it as a full-fludged Joe for field ops, Greenshirts that took an injury in training to become a Joe and needed to be sidelined, etc. Once you know your way around the Pit, makes more sense to keep you even if it's just delivering food and helping with oil changes.

Oooh I like that explanation. Very cool.

Scored three Cobra-La guards today at Target. They were charging 42.99, but my Amazon PO is 40.99 each, so I’m not sure what I wanna do just yet.

This figure is packed. Two style helmets (these are not functional helmets, they are alternate heads) and two unmasked heads, two sets of shoulder armor and gauntlets, beautiful iridescent wings, a bone scythe and a spear, and the stupid handgun which made no sense to me even as a kid.

You can get a good variety of looks if you want to army build. I doubt I’ll ever display with the unmasked heads. The bones on the wings are unfortunately only painted on the front, but the gorgeous turquoise really offers eyecatching contrast against the red and bone color. The wings have no hinges, just pegs that plug into the back, and the shoulder armor can get in the way of the wings pivoting.

I’ll be displaying one amped up with the bonier helmet, shoulder pads, and gauntlets, the other two will be standard with the soft goods capes instead of wings. I’ll also finally open Pythona and Nemesis Enforcer!

It’s fun to display these RGs with Pythona and Nemesis. I’m scouring through my fodder to find the Atlantean figures from Mattel. I thought there was a some pretty organic looking armors in that toy line. I’m going to see if I can use those humanoid heads and some of the armored gear to create some Cobra La denizens. I really want a smaller build “ant-like” drone to fill it these larger armored RGs.

Thwipp!
