G.I. Joe Classified Series: The Chatty Pointless Thread & Performance Art

Did you get the Firefighter at EBGames? That's where I managed to snag one for $30 and a second Sniper for $18. The Legacy figures are a bit more plain-jane due to their realism basis but they are just packed so well with accessories that they are a great value at a cheaper price.
Yeah, I got him at EB. He's 29 and change there right now. They didn't have the sniper or I might have been tempted. I ALMOST got Retro Mindbender since he's 26 right now but I just don't want him enough to spend any more money at the moment when I know I'm about to get hammered with new Joes, a whole new MOTU line, and I gotta pay up for Elric from Savage Crucible. So I made myself be content with one new figure for now.

The accessory thing I can go either way on. Particularly with this guy, but I think this applies more generally; I love that the options exist because I can make the figure I want. But after that -- all those 'extra value accessories' end up in a bin and I'll probably never look at them again. So beyond allowing me to initially make the figure I want most, the value add is pretty questionable there.
But I still really like him.

I got the newest Wave in from Pulse today. Again, freaking amazing. Hasbro keeps doing such an excellent job with these. While Hit and Run was the one I wanted most, and he did not disappoint, I was really surprised how much I like these Night Vipers. I love the colors on these guys. The teal maybe even aqua green color really pops.

I just got Lifeline, Hit and Run, and the 2 Night Vipers since they all had figures from the ARAH line in the 80's/90's. I definitely don't feel I need the Mole Rat, but I may end up getting Big Lob since i remember him from the Cartoon Movie.

Still annoyed that so many people are getting Night Viper and he's still showing a fucking -APRIL- release everywhere in Canada.

Yeah but why worry? Mainline releases aren't worth picking up at full price anymore. I have been pretty good this year with Classified. The only thing I have "paid" full price for is NF Zartan because he is an exclusive. Everything else I have purchased this year has been on sale/clearance.

Usually, I would agree.

But Night Viper was one of my all-time favorite ARAH figures and I want the Classified figure -right now-.

THEY GOT YOU!!!!! 😜

Yeah I get that. I'm lucky in that I am kind of in the spot now where there really isn't much left that is a "must have" for me so I can wait on mainline releases. Unfortunately exclusives are a different beast and I always cave because I don't want to take the risk.

It's almost the opposite for me, where they're just starting to really hit on characters that are my must-haves and childhood favorites, which I will buy for full price and not even feel bad about it. Desert Scorpion was one, as well as V4 Snake Eyes and Budo. Hell, I've already seen two of the three figures discounted on Amazon and I don't care.

Same with Night Viper. I know he'll be cheaper later, but I will buy him full price the moment that I can do so. Luckily, my 'must haves' are still a relatively short list and Hasbro seems to be spacing them out so it's at least not a full wave of must haves at a time.

I got Hit&Run and the Night Viper. I'd ordered them from Pulse to get free shipping with the Pythona I got months ago. Night Viper came yesterday and Hit&Run today. Three boxes... how does free shipping work when they're sent separately? Even worse... I'd ordered a Marvel figure with a Black Series set and got free shipping, but now I've cancelled the Marvel part of that order ready to just pay the shipping cost... but... I'm still getting free shipping for the Black Series set. Not that I'm complaining.

Just got the "hold onto your nuts, boys, we're shipping soon!" notification from Pulse about the Cobra-La royal guard. Guess Target having it in stock was just a SLIGHTLY early precursor. Shipping supposedly is right after my birthday too, so happy YoJoeBirthday to meeeeeee.

I really could have patiently waited for the guards, to be honest, but if they randomly decide to ALSO ship Airtight early I may get the vapors.

It's no secret they did a female figure in each wave from 1982 until 1987, stopping with Jinx. I was thinking it could be interesting if they did one character from 1988 onward and gender swapped. I know, I know, but I really don't give a shit how those people react. Are there really a shitload of Armadillo fans who are gonna freak out because their beloved Rolling Thunder character is now a lady?

For the sake of being chatty and pointless, here's my suggestions:

80516.jpg

1988 - Armadillo
Another Native American character, would be cool to have a female especially one who handles one of the biggest rigs in the Joe motorpool.
windchil.jpg
1989 - Windchill
Another vehicle driver, BUT I think G.I. Joe could use a female arctic specialist and I'm willing to sacrifice that sweet soup strainer to have her.

1990 - Salvo
This was kinda decided for me since the comics already did a female Salvo.
skycreep.jpg

1991 - Sky Creeper
Yeah, who? Sky Creeper was a Cobra Glider pilot and I really wanted to have another individual female in Cobra.
bulletpr.jpg

1992 - Bullet-Proof
This year was difficult because it's a lot of classic characters with new looks and I wanted to stick to characters introduced that year. Bullet-Proof is the leader of DEF, and probably about time G.I. Joe gets an AA female member.
mirage.jpg

1993* - Mirage
Another year with a lot of classic characters as well as repaints, but Mirage was part of the Mega Marines and I couldn't help but imagine someone like Vasquez from Aliens.
blakstar.jpg

1994 - Cobra Blackstar
The final year of the original RAH was full of repaints but Blackstar was a Cobra member of the Star Brigade subline.

*1993 DID have a female figure with Ninja Force Scarlett, but she wasn't a new character.

I'm on record as being always of the opinion with any established property that every character and costume is -someone's- favorite and should be treated that way. Don't phone it in or fuck it up just because it's not the popular one.

I feel the same way here. Yeah, maybe not a lot of people care about Mirage. But someone does. And that person is going to be gutted when Hasbro finally gets around to making this character they grew up being so fond of and it's not the character they actually grew up being fond of. I loved my Salvo figure growing up. If Hasbro finally makes Salvo and it's some bullshit gender-swap I'm going to be PISSED. Not because 'ew girls' but because 'I really want 1990 Salvo.'

Not saying you can never do gender swap characters (that's all fucking Dawn is). Just that I find it unacceptably douchey to make that the first time that particular character makes it into the line. That's as much a 'fuck you' to ARAH fans as 'Arctic Storm Shadow.'

Yeah, I'm 100% behind them adding more women but I don't really want rehashed ideas of existing characters. They've created some gorgeous new figures for Classified and I think they have more bangers in them if they have the time and space to do it. I do think you're flagging good themes to add women characters to though - I'd love to see them create an original Native female character who doesn't take a spot away from existing Native representation, and especially if they make her not a cultural stereotype - think more Airborne than Spirit. We NEED an arctic Joe specialist who's female too since that particular area is a boy's club.

It would be absolutely hysterical if they gender-swapped the guy in the shirt that sounds like a Joe Rogan saying though, that would be hilarious.
