McFarlane DC Multiverse

I stopped at a near by Walmart today that usually has the newest collectible figures and they got the rest of the Super Friends figures in. I was able to get the Red Platinum Batman. Last week they had Batman, Green Lantern & Riddler. Today they had Luthor, Sinestro & Red Batman.

They also had Jade, Bizarro, Cyborg Superman, Cowboy Batman & Armored Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

Since I work night shift, I'm able to go to the stores in the morning when they stock shelves and I can be home without distractions for pre-orders. The Walmarts in my area seem to stock on Tuesdays & Fridays but the Targets in my area vary but what they carry or stock.

I thought I was done with my grumpy posting for today, by toy companies keep finding new ways to go cheap. In this case, how about eliminating articulation?

The movie Metamorpho "figure":

Movie Lex Luthor coming May 28th. Movie Superman went up a few weeks ago, sold out right away. Movie Mr. Terrific and Robot #4 coming sometime.......Jesus. What happened to just releasing a wave? Why this slow trickle over many, many weeks? At least they are kinda-sorta being released around movie time (a lost art form where Hasbro is concerned).

This was my cranky post of the day.
You forgot to mention that Terrific and #4 are Red Platinums. I guess McFarlane isn’t looking at this big movie event to boost sales or bring in new customers, because no one outside of this hobby is going to have the first clue what a Red Platinums is or why they can’t find these figures. I barely understand the Platinum nonsense at this point. As far as I’m concerned, Spin Master is doing a much better job supporting this movie.

No, I don't understand what a red platinum is. I don't understand what a digital action figure is. I don't understand what makes one figure "Collector's Edition" grade over another. It's all just nonsense. Won't miss that shit at all this time next year.

That is NOT the Mutliverse figure. That looks like it's the movie version of McFarlane's "Todd's Mods" line.
The ACTUAL Metamorpho figure just has boxer shorts.

Yeah, it's a bit of a hot mess. I get that the Multiverse figures are more of an "adult collector" kind of thing, and kids are more likely to go for the more basic Spin Masters toys (parents too, I suppose, given the price point), but it just feels wrong to me to lock certain characters behind such needlessly convoluted gimmicks. Especially when it comes to minority characters. I'm sorry to be "that guy" and perhaps blow it out of proportion a bit, but especially in such times, you can't put a price on a kid- be they a kid of color, a girl, a disabled kid, etc.- seeing a superhero that they feel represents them, then wanting to go out and get a toy of said character and it be near impossible. And again, yeah, there's the Spin Masters line, but that's not necessarily the point. Why shouldn't that kid get to see their hero get equal treatment, or a more deluxe figure? Though I risk sounding a bit too (insert adjective here), locking minority characters behind smaller runs or silly gimmicks sends the wrong idea- that said character isn't popular enough or isn't worth producing more of. And yeah, I know it may have more to do with just the business side of things- I doubt McFarlane wants another Black Adam situation where certain figures pegwarm for years to come, but still.

It's just baffling to me overall. A lot of the recent platinum variants are figures that fans have clearly expressed interest for. They're going to sell, so I'm not sure what Todd is necessarily worried about (if anything- he definitely does just like to stir the pot). Like many others, I quite like the figures themselves, but I won't miss all this needless rarity and such. McFarlane seems to be the only company to be doing it, at least to this level, and I really hope Mattel doesn't consider something similar. It would be the fastest way for me to just dip out of the line completely.

Five minutes too late to get Hawkgirl. This price creep makes me less upset about it. (Yeah, I know she's still up at MTS, but I don't want to pay that shipping.)

$35 for Ultraman is wacko. Hasbro can overcharge for Spiderman and it will sell; Ultraman looks like future land filler at that price. Cool that it comes with 8 hands; too bad Todd still makes hands way too small. Guy's got baby hands like those Mortal Kombat figures:

Interesting stuff from the McFarlane show this afternoon. Not much new, but I always enjoy seeing the figures vs the digital renders.

Rebirth Batmobile from left field.

Kiteman. A joke character that I don’t quite get. Instant purchase anyway.

Darkstar android army builder. Pass.

Merlyn. Love it.

Observations:

Canadians seem to pronounce figure as “figger”. Or either he’s just saying it the same way Todd does.

They seem pretty optimistic in regards to DC Multiverse. Very enthusiastic about the future. Maybe negotiations are going well.

The Elite program seems pointless.

EDIT: SDCC 2025 is a little less than 2 months out. Sounds like it could be a banger.

Kite-Man is absolutely a dream come true.

Or, as he would say: “Hell yeah!”

Those tiny hands look like.a joke. And there's like 3 or 4 pairs of them. For $12 more than a standard figure.
