Mattel DC Figures

So what are we thinking about other sub-lines beyond Batman? Superman? Justice League? JSA? GLC? Seems like a lot of peripheral characters in the DCU don’t have much of a chance otherwise. If Alan Scott can’t be a wave anchor anymore, then there’s pretty much no chance of Mr. America, Tomcat, or Judomaster ever getting made without a JSA dedicated sub-line.

I do mean eventually, not all at once. I’m trying to think about the long game that Mattel has to play to make this work. I’ll assume that we go for at least 20 years.

This reminds me of one of my favorite episodes of The Mighty Boosh where Tony Harrison and Saboo DJ Howard’s birthday party.

Tony Harrison: “I’ve got it, Saboo. A concept is formulating. Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk in it’s entirety.”

Saboo: “Are you insane? There’s at most one track I could get away with off…maybe Rumours.”

Judomaster?
One of the breakout characters from one of DC’s most-ever popular shows?
That Judomaster?

Todd made a Super Powers of him. In his classic outfit, no less.

All it takes is a teeny bit of media exposure and suddenly folks are making memes about eating Hot Cheetos.
I was thinking of a comic accurate Judomaster, but point taken. 👍 I’d actually forgotten about him in Peacemaker.

I doubt it'll happen, but I'd really love to see another Lantern Corps dive. There's just so many cool, unique alien designs that are so fun and toyetic. The little mini DCUC line we got around the time the Green Lantern movie came out was awesome, with the swappable heads and little creature pack. I don't know what the upcoming Lanterns show is really gonna give us in terms of cool aliens- I'm not expecting much, if any, but if nothing else, I hope it renews some interest in a some dedicated Lantern Corps figures. The fact we never got certain characters like Indigo-1 in well-articulated form, only the DCD figures- feels a bit wrong. I'd love some well articulated versions of the little weirdos like Salaak or Morro. Especially since they're doing swappable face plates, it doesn't feel like a 3-in-1 type of alien corps member is out of the question.

Word on the street is Lanterns will launch an overarching storyline through the various Gunn media projects coming up. Big picture type stuff.

In terms of comics, a third Green Lantern series is coming out in May. Obviously trying to rebuild the brand. Both in comics and media. I think it’s working.

Boy if they want Lantern Corps to prosper in the modern sphere, they are really going to have to figure out how to disconnect the theme from “space cops”. Hard to imagine anything more tone-deaf right now than a small group of detached old guys sending highly armed “deputized” agents whose only qualification is “being fearless” to go around firing lasers at anyone they deem a “threat”.

Ah, but see they, these space cops only target dangerous aliens who are a threat to the security of ... I hear it now.

I guess I just have little faith at this point that Mattel, DC, Warner Brothers Discovery, Paramount, or whoever has any interest in creating a definite line of comic accurate DC figures. I’m at the point where seeing a comic accurate Hawkman or Green Arrow announced would impress me.

Yeah. What are the Lanterns? Cops? Soldiers? Militia? Vigilantes?

1) Who gave the Guardians the authority to police the universe?

2) Why are they so bad at it? Every decision blows up in their little blue faces.

3) If Oa is the source of all the emotional energy, why don’t all the various corps work together?

Alan Scott is one of the foundational characters of the DCU. The GLC are essentially cannon fodder. My view anyway.

I mean.... with Paramount appearing to 'win' the battle for WB, that puts friend of the current administration Ellison in charge, so a big push glorifying the Universe Police and Galctic 'peacekeepers' will be extremely on brand
Hegseth will love it since rules of engagement are, his words, "Stupid".

Ethan Van Sciver getting ready to have Hal punch Batman again.

My hope is that it doesn’t go that high. I somehow can’t picture Zaslav sitting in his office looking at action figures unless it’s for a 100M + budget movie. At some level, all these people in charge and involved, know how successful Marvel Legends have been maintaining about a 60/40 ratio of comic/media figures. I think the comic line is baked into Mattel’s calculations.
