McFarlane DC Multiverse

Did a little toy hunt yesterday, which is very rare for me these days. I just pre-order or buy online pretty much anything I want and the thrill of the hunt just isn't that thrilling anymore. Man, I used to love hitting all the local spots looking for that good plastic, but now? Couldn't be arsed.

At any rate, I felt a bit nostalgic for The Wild Hunt and so hopped around the local Wal-Mart, Target and Gamestop looking for God knows what and ended up finding nothing that grabbed my interest until Gamestop, where I found Jessica Cruz on the pegs. I wasn't going to bother with trying to get her because the leg reuse is atrocious, I mean those high heels look fucking ridiculous on a character like her. I've never seen any art where she is sporting some stilettos. But seeing her in person was too tempting to pass up.

Now I just have to find some normal superhero boot feet to swap on to her legs at some point. At least she comes with a little green swoosh effect to cover up one of the high heels.

It's the pointless thigh-high boots on her that I can't stand. It's ironic - can't get Hasbro to sculpt boots for anything but McFarlane won't stop.

In person Jessica's hair reminds me of the DCD OG Black Canary which is nice. We've seen the render but I kinda wish Todd was using flowing hair like Jessica's on Dinah.

BTW - the mainstream DC Comics Black Canary is Dinah, right? Or Laurel? Arrow forever messed this up in my head.

Jayger 101 on YouTube says he thinks a lot more stuff is about to go up for preorder in March. Make of it what you will. It tracks if Todd does DC preorders every other month until October, that will close us out by December.

My understanding is that the Chinese New Year celebration doesn't end until after the first week of March. So I'd assume that's a larger reason for the silence as well combined with all the usual factors involving factories and tariffs.

I would think that anything that goes up for sale next month is probably already “on the water” and headed this way.

That’s the problem with characters that have been around since the 1940’s. I can’t remember the last time I came across a “Dinah” in real life or pop culture. Probably Dinah Shore back in the 70s.
That was definitely the CW’s ish:
They did, to be fair, say the whole name a few times, but their (first) version of BC went by “Laurel” EVEN THOUGH HER FIRST NAME WAS ACTUALLY DINAH. They were clearly all “nobody’s name is Dinah” or at least “that’s not a cool name”.
And THEN they actually introduced Dinah Drake, the Golden Age BC, but completely stripped her of being other-Dinah/Laurel’s mom or of being “original”. But they DID call her Dinah.

Sigh.

We're still behind in Moose and Squirrel land.

They just bumped Zee from Yesterday to March 27.

It’s always the random comments that crack me up the most. I used to love the Bullwinkle Show, especially Boris and Natasha. “Moose and Squirrel are kaput?”

I went through all of my McFarlane figures today. Some fun stats:

Release Year/Figures Purchased/Keeping

2020 - 7 - 1
2021 - 9 - 2
2022 - 17 - 4
2023 - 16 - 8
2024 - 32 - 24
2025 - 28 - 26
2026 - 10 - 10

So I’ve bought 119 (so far), and I intend to keep 75 (so far). Obviously my decision making got much better over time. Early on, I was buying because I was starving for new DC product, not because I particularly liked what McFarlane was doing.

What I do find interesting is that the character selection improved dramatically for me after the line went from primarily original sculpts to primarily egregious reuse. That can’t be a coincidence.

I have 347 Mcfigs including BaFs and articulated pack ins. More than the total of DCUC figures I owned. Don’t have it broken down by year though. All preorders have been delivered and I’m not currently looking for any past figures.

I’ll stay the course until the end. After the last Mcfigs get delivered, I’ll do a census, and likely a cull.

At that point, I’ll decide what I’m gonna do regarding Mattel.
