MAFEX Marvel Figures

Yeah, I'd recommend waiting it out for an HLJ or AmiAmi sale. I picked up the Ahsoka for 20 bucks, plus Caine from John Wick for 34 (and that dude came with a whole extra torso!), neither of whom had been out too long.

I think a lot of us are. I cancelled a pre-order for Nate Grey. I mean, what's the point?? It takes for-fucking-ever to release these figures. My problem now though is that my most cherished comic memories are early to mid 90s, and they absolutely kill it where Jim Lee is concerned. Spider-man never wowed me, Maximum is way more accurate to McFarlane's art and Avengers are smallish to me. But Cyclops is perfect, and the new comic color Gambit is beautiful. The clincher was Maverick, absolutely perfect! I can see CIA Wolverine and Omega Red coming. So basically I am stuck supporting them, Complete Lee's X-Men or die. Whatever comes first.

That's the last thing my wallet needs is carbonadium coils pulling it open. Especially for the Spy Wolverine Hasbro seems hesitant to give us.

I really wish Mafex would quite with the metallic paint colors on its figures though. Wolverine's got "tiger stripes" that look like metallic car paint. Jean and Psylocke suffer from much the same, and now Rogue's got metallic paint. At least Cyclops was spared and Gambit's metallic accents were actually because those parts of his costume ARE metal.

Maverick had better not look like they ordered touch-up paint for a Honda Goldwing.

I almost put an order in but I'm waffling. At first glance I don't love the heads or the metallic green, and that jacket does seem destined to fall apart. The belt looks goofy too - I like that they tried to position it, but it would have looked better slid down a bit so one side is actually resting on her hip instead of floating attached to the waist.

Still lots to like about it - looking forward to more in-hand pics.
 
I actually toyed with getting rid of the Mafex team because the 97 Squad is so nice.

Which is ironic because I got rid of all the prior Legends to go in with Mafex.

Regardless, my Rogue has shipped from Amazon, and it can only add to the value if I decide to get rid of it. I probably won't. I like the distinct looks. I have no faith in them filling out gold team, so I'll just throw Legends Beast with them and call it once Jubes hits.

Also... I feel like that portrait is way more Kubert than Lee. Now I have to reassess all of them. Was it Andy all along?

I do love all the portraits even if I don't like the static hair across all three. I choose to believe the gritted teeth is a nod to the original toy biz effort.
 
There’s still Jubes and Iceman for sure, plus whispers that Colossus, Beast, Nightcrawler and (an) Angel will be revealed at the next show. Oh and Maverick but who gives a fuck about that chump, etc.

I’m in no rush, I’ll always prefer a figure with accessories, options and nice paint than cheap, unpainted gummy plastic and maybe an extra fist if you’re lucky.

I like the green color on the actual figure way more than the solicitation, which was like dark metallic green. She looks great with the comic Gambit that’s actually colored like the original ‘92 Toy Biz figure.

Excited to add her and Gambit this month, and then hopefully Jubilee and Iceman by end of the year.

I think of these Mafex as like the ultimate Jim Lee X-Men. Like if I had to get rid of most of my entire collection, these are the ones I would keep.

Yeah, I'll most likely just foster both versions. Right now Mafex lives above my workstation and 97 with Spidey elsewhere.

Would be curious to see Colossus given Thor. Bane bigger than Thor? Also, why don't we have a doomsday with all the 90s love they do?
 
They've shown the painted Doomsday so it should go up in the next couple of months, though I confess, I think it looks pretty bad. Maybe it's just the DoS aesthetic but it just looks too bland, smooth/untextured. Definitely waiting until folks have it in hand before deciding.

Kaiju Daddy thinks Rogue is the worst Mafex release in a while. Coupled with nearly a year's delay this is one of their biggest mistakes in a while. Her overall aesthetic reminds me a lot of Jean and she also was a fairly average release.
