G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

I love that Overkill is Snake Eyes' -FAULT-. That's a really cool dynamic that I want to see played with. I get so tired of 'the ninja fights the ninja.' What does the ninja do when the thing he needs to hunt is an unstoppable machine suit on an unrepentant killer?

In my head Snake Eyes left him to suffer instead of finishing him off because he found him so loathsome he didn't deserve a mercy kill, and that moment of ninja-vindictiveness opens up the door to an even bigger problem.

Certainly, there has never been an American president who hasn't been asked about aliens and conspiracies about extraterrestrial life, and President Lewis is no exception. Please rest assured, we are aware of the footage released by those mountain climbers and of course we take any potential threat to the United Staes and the world very seriously, but please rest assured, the footage is not, we repeat, not, evidence of an alien invasion or visitation of any kind. To the best of our knowledge, we believe this was some kind of Hollywood viral marketing stunt - no, we have spoken with the climbers and conclusively determined they are not part of the hoax and simply accidental bystanders. We will continue our investigation and release the results publicly as soon as it is complete. NOTE FROM BARONESS: I want whoever leaked that footage found and thrown in a pit so deep his grandchildren won't know he existed. We cannot have any further leaks. Lock it down.

"Of course we saw it. At first we assumed it was some new bio-mechanical armor Lewis was developing. Every piece of tech Cobra ever invented looked like a drugged out nightmare, so why wouldn't they create bug armor? But our guy on the inside says Lewis's people are SPOOKED. Mainframe and Dial-Tone have been through every pixel - they say it's legit. Doc says they look like humans, not robots, but how'd he phrase it? 'Something about the way they move gives him uncanny valley vibes. Like there's something unnatural about how they moved in the footage. We showed Snake Eyes thinking it was some hinky ninja mystic nonsense and he told us the footage scared him. Bro, you know a term we've never heard Snake Eyes use? 'Scared.' And whatever they were, they were headed DOWN the mountain. Toward civilization."

Here's a fun game: how do I make myself love a character I actively hate. You retell the story.

INTERNAL MEMO: For every brilliant idea Mindbender has, he must have an equal and opposite stupid one. Yes, we need some sort of counter agent for [CLASSIFIED]. The man is incalculably dangerous, completely unpredictable, and somehow able to evade our best surveillance efforts. But sometimes Mindbender's experiments jump the rails from science into science fiction, and no, you cannot 'transfer' the brainwaves of one person's brain into another. I want to know what drugs Mindbender was on when he came up with this idiotic scheme. And I also want the names of every security officer on duty when this young woman ESCAPED. Because at best, at BEST, we allowed our head of Health and Human Services to TORTURE and ABUSE a teenaged girl. At WORST, he implanted the memories of our most dangerous adversary in the body of that same girl. Pay off the parents, kill the girl, and put some bloody guardrails on Mindbender's activities before he gets us all killed.

"I'm putting words in Snake Eyes' mouth by saying this, of course. He's expressive, he can tell you what's on his mind, but he's not... he's not descriptive, you understand? But something happened up there at is cabin in Colorado. This CHILD walks out of the woods. Shows up on the doorstep of the most dangerous man alive. Says she doesn't know how she knows where he was, but she knew she had to go to him. That she had too many thoughts in her head. She told him she killed some people, but she doesn't know how. Or rather, she knows exactly how she killed those men but doesn't know how she knew the way to do it. She knocks on this masked, scarred, nightmare of a man's door and she says: I need help. I don't know who I am anymore. But I know you, and I think you know me. Timber pressed his nose into the palm of her hand. And Snake Eyes took her in. He's a man who should never have come home from the war. Everyone he ever loved before his face was burned off is dead, except the few of us who were there to see it happen. And somehow he's a father figure to more than one lost kid... and he's teaching them to be ninjas, because that's all he knows how to do anymore."

Fawk. That was truly beautiful. So glad I have her on order already. But seriously, and I love that she's not just 'girl snake eyes', and that you made her card show things about him as well without making her totally into him. Also, always love seeing behind the curtain of the administration and what freaks them out. Mindbender's shenanigans as well as big people. Truly a great day for the thread on both of these. The royal guard feel like they're pushing the Cobra-La narrative forward, then Dawn is a whole new wrinkle that wasn't hinted at previously but is folded in seamlessly.

The Cobra La stuff is really fun as a challenge because it is so out of pocket for little toy soldiers. I don't think I want Lewis to be Cobra La by birth but I do love the idea that this petty tyrant is going to be in charge of the most powerful nation in the world when fucking aliens erupt out of the Himalayas.

Dawn was a struggle too because I HATE "replace Snake Eyes" story arcs. But you know I love how fucked up Mindbender is, and so what if what the comics did didn't happen, but that son of a bitch really did try it? And fried the brain of some girl who never asked for all this. I think Snake Eyes is, in my version of the story, "our monster." He is a murderer and a nightmare but put someone who needs saving in front of him and he will always give every ounce of himself to save that person. Of course he'd adopt Dawn. She's just another iteration in the cost of war, like he was.

Really great takes and concepts. It's also interesting to me that the Joes are putting things into play to stop Lewis, while he is also sorta kinda the best hope of saving the free world from this bizarre, otherworldly threat, and really only because he is the guy in the white house when it hits the fan. Like how sometimes massive catastrophes happen and the president, whichever dip shit it happens to be, just has to step up. Unless of course they're a total shit for brains too focused on enriching themselves to handle their actual fucking job. And yes, this feels like such an ultimate take on Snake Eyes, and still in line with the original Hama.
