Mattel DC Figures

Blue Marvel?
There you go.
Why make Blue Marvel and not Killraven?

Because Blue Marvel made someone's short list for a random inclusion in the line and Killraven didn't. Simple as that.

Or Blue Marvel was in a comic at the time? I actually don't know/remember. I am 100% never going to claim to be anything approaching a Marvel scholar.

Deathlok was considered one of the 'deep cut' figures during the TB era. So again, it comes back to - they can't make everyone. You can look at any deep cut figure and say 'why didn't they make this other figure instead?' At some point someone has to put names on paper and start making figures.
Us Deathlok fans got lucky that TB chose him, and he proved fairly popular so clearly stayed on the radar for Hasbro. But, notably, he didn't get re-made by Hasbro until he was current in the comics again. And then his third figure was an easy straight repaint with no new parts, in a different comic-accurate costume. Hard to compare that with Killraven. When was the last time that character was relevant? Is it like.. ever?
I was a huge fan of the original Deathlok run in Astonishing Tales. Killraven is in my Top 10 most wanted. He had a Slurpee cup, dammit! I don’t care if that was 50 years ago! 😉

Keep in mind.. we're not far out. The figures we're speculating on right now are (at least the first two waves) in the latest stage of development before they start to cut tooling very shortly here. The things we say right now online could still, in theory, impact development in a way that the things we say two months from now simply cannot.
In that case, I need a dedicated, one-time only sculpt specifically for Nightwing's dumptruck ass. I don't want it to ever be used again for any other figure. I'm talking dedicated sculpt, unique articulation, soft goods where necessary- the whole shebang. I don't care if it pushes it into deluxe territory, I want my Dick to be perfect. You hear me, Mattel?! Thicc Dick, or bust!

I think he still shows up in stuff. He's definitely been on a lot of bigger-scope teams in the past decade as a sort of go-to Superman type, and his power set means he's a natural presence in bigger crossover events.

I have literally never clocked notice of him in fucking -anything-. Haha.

Blue Marvel's original solo series is really good. He's a main character in Al Ewing's short-lived but excellent Ultimates series, too.
Feels silly to even speculate, since we're so far out
I've been thinking that this thread is the ultimate distillation of the toy-collecting community. We have some idea of how Mattel will operate based on their wrestling lines and new MOTU figures, and we know they're likely to model the line off of Marvel Legends, but we really have no idea. It's hope and wishlisting all the way down.

Blue Marvel?
Killraven was one of the future Avengers in Kurt Busiek's Avengers Forever around 2000. It and Busiek's Avengers run with George Perez and later Alan Davis are generally considered among the best Avengers stories ever. Hasbro just announced Quicksilver and Black Widow figures based on "The Crossing" storyline, which is widely considered probably the worst Avengers story in the history of the characters. Crossing takes place before Busiek/Perez. Forever was the thing that fixed the Avengers and Tony Stark, who was literally destroyed as a character in The Crossing.

I 'd love Hasbro doing figures based on Avengers Forever. Rick Jones is at the center of the story and would be an obvious selection for a figure. It's also the story that introduced Genis-Vell, Melissa Gold as Songbird and brought the much desired Jack of Hearts into the Avengers.

It's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all the way down!

That's a reminder that I need to read that Ultimates series, I really like Ewing's stuff. This explains why my most Ewing-loving friend is inexplicably a big Blue Marvel stan, just like how Immortal Hulk convinced me Puck and Absorbing Man were awesome.

An Avengers Forever wave would be awesome. We could finally get Yellowjacket as well.
