Star Wars Black Series

I have a feeling that's because they have freedom this year to do what they want - they don't have to tie half their releases to new media. The only new media this year is Andor, and that didn't sell the first season so they went really light.
I think I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure if that (drastically) affects how well they handle face printing, choosing articulation modes and functionality, and just the overall look and design of the figures. I'm not talking about character selection here - I think they've actually just improved the quality of what they're making regardless of which character it is.

Although, don't get me wrong, I'm very happy we might be finally getting proper upgrades to the complete ANH hero roster (still waiting on a new Threepio and Ben).

Yes, all the technical stuff is improving as well but I think that's partially because it's for stuff the team already loves greatly and isn't forced to work on in utter secrecy, increasing their passion for the product they are making, thus creating a better product.

Allowing them to pursue a "Return to Tatooine" program they may have pitched instead of MAKE EIGHT ACOLYTE FIGURES* just maybe creates a happier team?

*which is probably accompanied with YOU GET ONE REFERENCE IMAGE DO NOT ASK FOR MORE, DO NOT ASK ANY QUESTIONS, DO NOT ASK IF THE CHARACTER EVER HOLDS ANYTHING, YOU MAY NOT ASK IF THIS CHARACTER IS IN MORE THAN ONE EPISODE OR YOUR SERVICES WILL BE TERMINATED. We've all heard the way the team has to say "actor likeness" with no deviation or hint at the actor's name - that is not a fun environment to begin with.

I've felt like, for a while, there's been a big gap between the quality and overall "togetherness" of the Star Wars products and the team when compared to the Marvel team- you can see it on the streams. While the latter point may not really mean much- some people just aren't good on camera, and I can't fault them for that- there seems to be more confidence behind the Marvel line at times. Dwight and crew just seem passionate about the figures, or at the very least just know how to sell them in a way that isn't the cringey corporate talk, whereas the discomfort of the SW crew comes across. And sure, in all fairness, comic-based Marvel figures are probably easier to do- way more potential for sculpt re-use and all that, but still. Who knows- maybe George Lucas is off-screen holding a gun to the Star Wars team's heads and they're not allowed to mess up.

We could sit here and theorize about why the last few waves have been stellar- whether it's less media releases, more creative freedom, X person having more/less control, etc. All that really matters is that they're improving and will hopefully continue to do so. All this tariff nonsense could either screw us all over and force them to go back to less quality products, or it could allow them more time to fine-tune things and deliver quality.

It's certainly possible. But, let's be fair, it's also possible that the Star Wars team -likes- doing the new stuff and is generally tired of making the fifteenth Luke Skywalker or finding a new way to make it exciting that they sculpted more hair on Chewbacca's feet this time, or whatever. I'm sure there's a give-and-take and a balance to it. I doubt they want to do OT all the time. I also doubt they get extra excited to make figures of characters they don't know anything about and therefore don't really care about, but also aren't allowed any deviation on the design of.

That's my thinking as well. Yeah, I give them plenty of crap, but I also realize their hands are tied in many regards. They're given their budget for the year and have to play within that, and have to look to LucasFilm & Disney for approval on a lot of things (which isn't unique to them, granted, but I've heard rumors before that one/both of them aren't the easiest to work with at times). They're always going to want to make figures of the hot new property, whether that's because Lucasfilm and Disney are forcing them to, or because it's a smart business decision to strike while the iron is hot. The downside to a property like Star Wars is, if you want to do certain characters, it's going to require certain parts you may not use again for a while, if ever, and if you do, it might be for a super obscure character that no one but the hardcore fans care about. Star Wars fans also, like any dedicated fanbase (arguably even moreso than comic book fans), have their favorite look for a character or a favorite background character and won't be happy until they're made (which, let's face it, most won't be). Heck, even if they are made, a lot of fans will complain.

Especially with rising costs, both for manufacturer and consumer, they're able to take risks less and less. There was a time when collectors would buy any cool obscure alien, whether they appeared prominently or not, but times have changed. There was a time when Constable Zuvio would've sold no matter if he actually made it to screen or not. Even the ones that do appear prominently like Lando often sit on shelves. Collectors are being more and more picky with their money, which they have every right to be, but we also have to realize that that often means Hasbro having to cut back on taking big swings too. I have no doubts that concept art is withheld from them or they're told not to do certain characters/looks or plans change and a character they thought was going to be big is barely featured, but I do generally think they do the best they can with what they're given. They obviously do listen to fans to an extent, or else we wouldn't have gotten a bunch of the things we have; It's a fine line, and a real give-and-take, and even though I give them plenty of crap, I'll still happily take most of what they put out.

I do think the Hasbro teams are doing a great job - I was more critiquing Lucasfilm and Disney and enjoying this year when the team doesn't have to meet so many LF/Disney mandates for new media.

Now, may I PLEASE have my Theed Amidala? And ROTS Anakin and Obi-Wan?

Has anyone purchased any of the amazing third party 6" Padme parts on Instagram? They are exactly what I want Hasbro to be doing. But I don't have Instagram so I can't quite tell if these are for sale, or just files - but I want ALL of them.

All the talk in the media thread about Kenobi today has me extra annoyed that my Obi-Wan two-pack has been ping-ponging around the city in a Fedex truck all day today and now won't get here til tomorrow. I WANT MORE KENOBI NOW!

Am I going to be super dorky and rearrange a shelf tomorrow with every Jedi I have paired up with an appropriate clone trooper? (We don't have a trooper for Kit, right I think now legit have Anakin, Kenobi, Yoda, Aayla, Plo Koon and... oh do we have an appropriate trooper out there for Ki-Adi-Mundi?

Please post pics when you do. I need to do some rearranging of my Star Wars stuff and need inspiration. That's also the display where my Detolf glass suddenly shattered and I haven't pulled out all the rest of the broken glass yet. I just swept up what was in the floor so I'm kind of disgusted with that whole collection right now.

My collection is a bit of a shambles, too. I want to slap the Outer Rim backdrop I have from Extreme Sets and set something half-decent up this weekend and I keep looking at Gru, Bacara, Wollf, and starting to get inspired.

Alot of the Jedi took on spcific clones for most of the CW, but i think Kit Fisto was an exception. Iirc there were a few that didn't take on clones. Quinlan Vos was one. And in old canon Rahm Kota only used Milita. Maybe Luminara didn't? And Shaak Ti didn't seem to fight much in the new canon so she didn't really need one. But even some random Jedi they give names too that die on the episode or whatever have some commander clone they seem to know very well.

I suppose if you're not picky, you can always just pair them up with color-coded clones. We have Wolffe for Plo, but you could always throw him next to one of the gray Kamino clones. Or Shaak Ti, for that matter, since she helped train the clones on Kamino, or make up some head canon with Commander Fox- I'm sure she probably interacted with him while trying to stop Grievous from kidnapping Palpy. Kit, you could always just throw next to one of the few green clones we've gotten if you have them. I know Gree is often associated with Yoda, but you could always throw him next to Luminara too, since she was stationed on Kashyyyk, and Ki-Adi Mundi, of course, has Bacara. But generally, yes, I'd love a Galactic Marine and a Kashyyyk Scout Trooper; such easy redos that I'm surprised Hasbro hasn't given us already.

Just got the Kenobi two pack, so I have my project tonight. Right now I've got:
Kenobi - Cody (stick the generic trooper in with them)
Yoda - Gree (with Luminara as well? I think she was the actual general)
Mace - generic purple-coded trooper
Anakin - Rex of course - could legit do a a whole squad with him
Aayla - Bly (add Galle to the mix?)
Ki-Adi-Mundi - Bacara
Plo Koon - Wolffe
Shaak Ti - I'm gonna put her with Fox because of color uniformity since I think he's the last clone commander I have with assigned Jedi (?)

Am I missing anyone? I just looked at this list of troopers and holy crap they've done a lot of troopers. I think minus Kit (whom I will, for humor's sake, put with Aayla) that covers all the prequel era Jedi they have too (?). I can put Snips with Anakin of course. I feel like I'm missing someone. (Kinda want to stick Baylan Skoll in there just to be subversive. Maybe put him with some unassigned troopers.)

EDIT: Was Appo REALLY hard to get? I think he's the only named clone I don't have one version of.

Appo wasn't really hard to get, but he was a Target Exclusive, so it wasn't the easiest either. He isn't too bad of a price on Ebay. I think he goes for $10 or $15 over his retail price, and that's mint in box. You could probably do better loose.

I really thought my Kenobi and Clone would be here today. But so far, no.

Oh that's right. I got shut out of trying to get him on Target for a few days straight and gave up like "eff it, I'll never want this guy." And now I'm trying to do a Legendary Troopers setup on my shelf and I'm annoyed.
