General Marvel Legends

Basically, if they are focusing on the New Mutants now, is the Roberto X-Men 97 release the "Roberto" release that goes with Magik? If not does it suggest another powered up Sunspot but from the early days? Alt-heads like has been suggested with Doug? I don't expect them to be too forthcoming about plans but more are they thinking they have checked off Roberto and Magik for the original team in training uniforms.
This is the perfect question for someone attending NYTF. It's one you might actually get an answer to.

I think we could get a powered-up Bobby. We still don't have a great figure of him using his powers. The question is whether he comes with the X-Men '97 figure's head. Then you'd have the option between powered or depowered, and theoretically, the yellow would better match Illyana.

I think the easier (read: cheaper) choice for Hasbro is to release a fully powered up Bobby which is just a basic black figure with an all black head, don't even have to paint pupils. Maybe with a little energy crackle deco stamped on, maybe not, and then some yellow plastic energy effects.

And if we're doing the original team, thats more accurate to the art form that time.

I would say include a repainted Timber from GIJoe Classified with a human Rahne, nothing says it has to be a Target/Walmart release. It can be in another wave where that would possibly be doable, or as a cheaper deluxe.

That was my first thought, but I feel like it'd make for a terribly boring figure.

I could be wrong, but I get the impression they look at something like X-Men '97 as an excuse to do certain characters. I think it's why we got a Goblin Queen in wave 2. I think to them they're congratulating themselves for finding a way to release Sunspot and that figure is it. Internally, they may be laughing at the collectors who want them to release two Sunspot figures in the span of just two years.

For classic New Mutants when I picture Sunspot "powered on" he's fully black with no uniform showing. I'd definitely prefer he come that way, and then a uniform version with a depowered head (shared body with Cypher). It would be easy enough to put the powered up head on the training suit if they don't put it all in one box.

This is exactly how I've envisioned wolf Rahne, since it's how Bob McLeod tended to draw her:

... also agreed, the pictured version of 'Berto using his powers might make for a bland-looking figure, unless they figured out a really cool way to represent the energy field around him.
