Star Wars Black Series

This is where Disney/LFL need to relax the JJ mystery box approach a bit more.

I get we don't need Anakin with removable arm or Jango with removable head in wave one spoiling the film. But we've known Zeb was in the film since at least Celebration Japan and we've seen him in Mando season 3. Easy choice for wave one. Embo is in the trailer so they're not saving him as a surprise. Would have been nice to have him in the launch wave as well. A tweaked Mando, Ward, and assorted troopers isn't an exciting wave. Rotta we've seen since the teaser, get him out for the launch as well. Feels like they're missing easy launch period wins even if they are all due to come out a few months later in wave 2.

Yeah, it's weird. It seems like Disney/LFL shared things with Hasbro at least a little bit in advance, or else wave 2 probably wouldn't be in production like it seems to be. Heck, have we even seen Sigourney in her X-wing suit in a trailer yet? So they obviously knew about that in advance too. So they're sharing, but not quite early enough. I do wonder how much of that is up to Disney, though- if Hasbro wants to release it on time, bu Disney wants to hold back? I can't imagine Hasbro would want to miss that crucial window around the release of the film if they can help it. Heck, we still don't really know what the movie is actually about. It's cute that they're treating it like a mainline Skywalker Saga entry, but I don't think it needs that much secrecy. It would be like if they held back a figure of Kylo and Finn from TFA. Unless there's really something that they're hiding.

Yeah, part of it could be Hasbro since Disney/LFL have obviously shared stuff for wave 2 to be in production.

I would guess Disney asked them to hold back as wave 1 just seems too trooper heavy and Hasbro must know the other choices would make a better launch wave but I guess we'll never know.

Reminds me a little of when they were asked about the costume inaccuracies on their Mando Luke and blamed it on the concept artwork. I would have loved a follow up to that as it was such an obvious lie. There was no concept art (that was disguised as Plo Koon), the figure came out over a year after the episode and after Hot Toys version in the right costume. Sometimes the choices just don't make sense.

Could also be that wave 2 includes characters that were done using more digital effects, meaning they weren't finalized as early in the process, as opposed to troopers rebels pilots, and Mando who would either be largely based on classic costumes or would have been very much finalized far ahead of production. So it could be as simple as they didn't actually know what folks like Embo would look like and so those went into a wave 2.

I love how much Dave loves Plo Koon. Mostly because he's also my favorite Jedi, which means we get little nuggets here and there. I always love when they do little switcheroos like that, and even the actors don't know, like what they did at the end of Dead Man's Chest.

I'm sure there was some concept art for Luke somewhere, whether it's been made public or not. But yeah, Hasbro needs to get a little better at the corporatized answers (or at least find people better suited to deliver it). For as much shit as I give them, I do realize that sometimes they have their hands tied when it comes to things. I can't imagine Disney is the easiest company to deal with, but especially since they're a company that produces figures for two of their giant licenses- Star Wars and Marvel- you'd think that Disney would know they can trust them and would be a little more lenient.

Or maybe Mickey is a Jabba-like overlord that sits upon the giant throne of money he's made and throws people who cross him to his Pluto-like Rancor. It's why we haven't seen poor Clarabelle Cow in ages.

Good point about the digital models, though, Jake. That's both a blessing and a curse for movies- it's nice that they can so easily change a design like that, but it makes things really hard for merch companies. That's why the Cull Obsidian figure was almost totally incorrect when it first came out. Going back to the Jabba metaphor, I can just picture Disney coming back to Hasbro with the correct concept art after the fact. "Oh, you thought you were done with the figure? You're done when I say you're done!" Mickey's voice booms. Minnie cowers in the corner. Salacious laughs.

If anyone missed him on Pulse, Lord Starkiller is back up for pre order there. I know he originally sold out there pretty quick, so if anyone wants him from Pulse to get free shipping with their Premium membership, go get him.

Hmmm. My first thought was Rotta, but I guess it depends on his size. The re-release of Jabba was, what, $90? Even without the dais, I assume he'd come with a weapon or two, so he'd probably be comparable to Jabba. Embo with his little pet would be cool, but by all accounts there's almost no way he's ready in time for the movie. $55 is an interesting price point- it's more than the normal deluxe, but less than a normal 2 pack.

Fuckin wal mart exclusive in the US according to the page.

Yeah, I'm guessing Rotta as well. Pretty sure he was already on some rumour lists and $55 feels right without the dais given the original Jabba was about $30 back in the early days of the line.

Is Zeb getting a figure for M&G? I feel like $55 is closer to what they'd charge for him (and maybe some accessories, rather than a ripped Hutt. I think $55 is too low for Rotta.
