Quitting/putting collecting on pause

I've always said "everyone is a geek about something". The only difference is that fans of stuff like Marvel or Star Wars don't think their cosplay or collection have any influence on the outcome of things. No one goes to the theater saying "if I wear my lucky Jedi Robe Anakin won't turn to the Dark Side", or "if I bring my lucky Iron Man figure with me the Avengers will beat Thanos".
That's really it in the end. Sure with sports people get hyper fixated on being part of the team. However really almost all hobbies/personal interests are just geeks geeking out over what they love. Hell a "sommelier" is just a wine geek who turned it into a job. Foodies are food geeks, etc. etc. It all boils down to what society deems a geek seemingly based on what level of expense, or "coolness" the geek is into. The more expensive, or elite, the geekdom the less it is seen as geeky and more as sophisticated. Thus not being a geeky interest.

True, true. I was always taught "it's not what you say, it's how you say it". That goes for any given scenario, really. I just need to get out of my head about it and stop thinking about how it'll be perceived. Unless I lick my lips and rub my nipples while saying it, I don't think anyone's gonna take it the wrong way. I'd argue most people want to be complimented on what they're wearing, whether they admit it or not, but that's a whole other discussion.

I honestly don't even think that's especially controversial, it's just that a lot of people (the vast majority being men) simply cannot understand the difference between complimenting how someone looks and what someone is wearing.

I'll never forget my old friend Jennie- little spitfire of a girl. What she lacked in height she more than made up for in attitude. She used to get catcalled a lot and hit on, and one time when we were out together, some dude yelled "Your ass looks huge in those jeans!" and she yelled back "Thanks, your dick looks small in yours!" She made me fall in love with turning the tables on other people when they say something rude or unsolicited, though I'm nowhere near as smooth with it as she was.
