PLAYMATES Mutant Mayhem/Tales of the TMNT/etc.

I don't need those knock-off turtles, as amusing as the joke is, but I would like those wintery turtles. Maybe Walmart or someone will get singles of them and the bundles are just a Target thing.

Now those are cute. Love when a company embraces the joke of the knock-offs; if you can find a way to make money, go for it! I'd happily take the winter version of the Turtles too, but I still haven't gotten the civilian looks for Mikey and Raph yet; was waiting until they announce them for Leo and Donnie, but at this point, it may just end up being when the second movie comes out.

I know this new age of the Turtles isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm really loving it. Really dig the art style of the movie, and to a lesser extent how it translates to the 2D animation. Loved Tales, and am looking forward to season 2.

I like this new stuff a lot, and I thought the style worked really well in 2D. I don't love every single design choice, but the stories are fun and funny and the animation itself is dynamic enough that I can just enjoy the media and not feel the need to deal with the figures.

It's all been pretty good. I've enjoyed watching the movie and the show with my kids. Really wish I didn't have to go see a SpongeBob movies to see the new short though.

The Tortoises might actually be what I wanted from the MotUxTMNT crossover all along!

Ironically I think the 2D works and looks far better than the 3D of the movie did. MM was fine, but after seeing it I lost all interest in this iteration pretty fast. I've still bought one or two of the toys after the fact though. These Bootlegs look like good gags, but nothing I need for the collection...unless they hit Ross or something.

I took advantage of the Target sale to preorder these for 80. I don’t know if I’ll keep the order. If the winter themed turtles go up for sale separately (or are confirmed to get a solo release) I’ll probably just get them. I appreciate the gag of the bootleg turtles, but I definitely don’t need them.

I'm guessing most have heard, but the second season of Tales of the TMNT will be its last. Paramount's new CEO cancelled it following the Skydance merger. If you're at all familiar with the politics of the new ownership group, it should come as no surprise that the show with the black April (not to mention they cancelled Dora) got shit-canned. When he was first talking up Paramount's properties I thought it was a bad sign that TMNT wasn't mentioned as one of their big IPs (unlike SpongeBob and South Park) so this news is not unexpected. It makes me wonder if Mutant Mayhem 2 is in jeopardy. It's probably well into production, but that never stopped Warner Bros. from cancelling a film. With Seth Rogen attached, it might help the film if Paramount places any value on that relationship remaining intact. My guess is they'll instead try to license TMNT out for a new show so they don't have to front the cost of production. Basically let someone else take on all the risk. Either way, while I didn't love the first season of Tales I thought it was fine. The cast is really likable which helps, it's just the plot felt like the show kind of spinning its tires while it filled in the gap in time between movies.

Apparently the second film will happen, but they said the live action Last Ronin that was being developed is dead, so they can instead focus on a more "family friendly" story/take as the next "live action" film.

I don't think that's the worst thing. I haven't read the Last Ronin but do acknowledge its appeal. The film could still come back. They just want something more family friendly to jumpstart the brand for the new owners. Who knows though. Maybe they won't want an adult version as well as a family-friendly one, so maybe Last Ronin will be dead for quite some time. This could mean they're fast-tracking a new live-action TMNT movie, though.

I had a fear this new bastard at the head of Paramount would do something like this when it was announced.

Nickelodeon was a perfect partner for many licensees, and willing to do more with the Turtles in recent years than previous owners. We have gotten some of the best Turtles stories from IDW, some of the best figures ever, etc.

I'm not feeling great about licensing. I am fearful that this will disrupt the many great lines we have going, particularly NECA...

While my wallet (and wife) would certainly appreciate it-- can't have fomo over something that isn't revealed-- the fan in me is sweating a bit that some bullshit with the license is about to happen.
