McFarlane DC Multiverse

Never played the game, never even read the comics. I understand the Tom Taylor stuff is pretty good. Like most video game stuff, I find it over designed. I’m also not a big fan of “evil Superman”. Including Red Son commie bastard Superman and Earth 10 Nazi Superman. It just rubs me wrong. I don’t mind Ultraman as that’s another character. But Kal/Clark as the bad guy is just antithetical to the character in my view.

Red Son commie bastard Superman
Fascinating take. The comic is *significantly* more complicated than that, you should definitely read it. The more interesting character is American capitalist and *actual* bastard (and fascist), President Lex Luthor. Categorizing Red Son Superman as a “bad guy” and his opponents as “good” is precisely the deliberate propaganda President Luthor would want you to swallow. Very much like real life.

Aaaaaaaaanyway, yeah I can’t get into Injustice either. “Superman breaks due to tragedy and goes fascist” is an interesting premise, but one I had already seen played out several times when the game came out, so it wasn’t “new” or “innovative”. Superman has that dumb high collar I hate, Batman just looks . . . awful, and the whole design scheme of the characters is like dingy, grimy, grimdark and, well, ugly. And just waaaaaay too much “alternate universe” stuff. Even back then, I was pretty burned on “it’s a different timeline, these are variants of the characters you know!” shit; not that that can’t be done well, but even back then that kind of thing was over saturated (now, of course, the MCU has beaten on that trope to the point of boring absurdity). Ultimately, the whole thing felt like a Slipknot-listening teen’s fan-fiction.
And yeah, all the armor is silly.

Vigilante RULES. The kerchief is elastic and fits AND STAYS over his nose/face. Not sure which colorway I prefer, they are both really nice on the eyes. And he looks less John Wayne and more (though not exactly) Jimmy Stewart in person, which is much better and more appropriate. He just . . . rules. Awesome toy.
This is really great news. I’ve always wanted a Vigilante figure, but I was getting concerned after seeing the promo pics.
Supergirl is also great! Man, this wave slaps. I put the serious head on, and while that hairstyle just isn’t right for the platinum costume, she still looks ready to stare down the Anti-Monitor.
That serious faceplate looks so much better than the smiling one, but I’m waiting to see if someone puts the Rebirth Supergirl head on this figure. I always liked that sculpt for some reason, but I just can’t with that figure from the neck down.
It’s crazy because Joker and Canary are far and away my most-wanted from that drop, and I was initially on the fence with some of the platinums, but I am just having a blast with these guys.
Even though I can be a little jaded at times after nearly 30 years of collecting, I love seeing comments like this.

Great point. What is the set up with the skirt? Still a chunky LEGO block masked by the skirt overlay? Stupidest part about the Rebirth and Woman of Tomorrow figures.

Amazon wasn't working for me on Hellboy, so I got my order in on BBTS. Oddly excited for him; been wanting a good, affordable comic Hellboy to display alongside the movie figures. I'll have to quell that voice in my head that'll always be wanting more comic figures in this style, but at least Hellboy himself is a good enough standalone piece.

the packaging even says dark horse... how does this qualify for DC numbering?
are they just trying to get the completists to feel compelled to buy it over the numbering?

All I’ll say is that if Hellboy does well, there’s an entire universe of really whacked out crazy 💩 behind him. Mike Mignola is one talented twisted dude. And all the Hellboy figures made up to this point in any scale by any company combined barely scratches the surface.

Hellboy teamed up with Batman and Jack Knight a while back.
And he was a cameo in the aforementioned Injustice 2. Obviously this figure is comic-based, but point being, there seems to be at least a somewhat healthy relationship between DC and Dark Horse. As long as it gets us a decent Hellboy figure that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'm willing to overlook any discrepancies. Hell, if it does well enough and inspires Todd to give us more Hellboy figures in the style after the DC license runs out, I'm all for that too, even if he can't use the "DC Multiverse" moniker on the box.

regardless... this will likely be the first DC Collectors Edition i will actively skip...
( unlike the SDCC beast boy that i refuse to pay obscenely spiked prices for )

We'll see how long that lasts given what just happened at Dark Horse with the CEO and then the Warner Brothers deal.

Kind of satisfying to see the coat included with this after all the talk about variants. I'm not the giving McFarlane any credit. I just like when the paranoid rumor mongers turn out to be full of s***.

Found Baz at EB. Wasn't really on my radar (didn't even know they did one. I know he's older) but for Jess and Hal this week, may as well add another Lantern.

Plus he had all the accessories the other two don't.

I’m not sure if Dark Horse or Warners has anything to do with it. Mike Mignola pretty much writes his own ticket. He did a deal directly with Todd because he wanted to. He’s made himself wealthy and put a fortune into Dark Horse’s coffer off of Hellboy and related books. I hope this figure does well and we see Abe, Liz, and the rest of the gang in 2027 and beyond.
