General Marvel Legends

Totally agree. I'm surprised Hasbro doesn't partner with one of their many influencers to do this.
BTW - have you guys seen this video "ranking" influencers? Brutal stuff. Noticeably absent is Bobby Vala, since he's probably buddies with a lot of influencers.

The guy on the right goes by Jersey Maniac and says Veebs banned him on the fwoosh.

I'm not going to click this, but I can already imagine how classy it is.

This is a fun exercise and while we're at it, I figure I might as well post my two previous years of acquisitions since I only started keeping running tallies since 2023.

2023 was an amazing year for my Legends collection with a bunch of essential figures and killer discounts!

I really miss the ever-expanding cross-sell that would appear on the back of a figure box. That's a thing that should have never gone away.
One of my strongest toy memories is still the LEGO catalogues that would have photo shoots with little dioramas with all the sets from that year, and then on the other page it would show each set with its part number. Fucking BRILLIANT marketing and a joy to look at even today.

And the '90s X-Men line had that little fold out catalogue with some of the larger items that showed every item released to date. Loved that.

It's so crazy to me that more collector lines don't manage their own official checklist/database of all of their releases, or even just partner with one of the dozens of existing services that do it to become the "official" source. It seems like an obvious, easy and inexpensive way to market their lines and get people even more deeply invested. I'd guess the thought is that they don't want to pay for what people are already doing for free, but having a "checklist" absolutely pushes people to buy more, which I would think they'd be all about.
I'm loath to credit McFarlane, but McFarlane.com is the standard.

Bandai and Medicom also do a nice job.

I loved the little fold-out catalogs. They'd usually arrive around year-end with some releases. I remember getting them with both turtles and X-Men. I think it was the little catalog for X-Men that had the misprint where Maverick was inserted in place of Morph. And the TMNT one had that golden Leonardo that I always wanted, but never saw it sold anywhere. I think it was only available to certain retailers or something.

They are ranking "Shills" - in their opinion guys who don't give fair critiques because they are aiming to get freebies. I was only interested because a local guy I've seen at shows is on there now and was curious what his reputation was. They're... not fans. Let's face it, these are not exactly the type of people you can count on for a fair assessment there. In the same breath "Oh yeah that guy will say anything to get a free release and never pay for a toy - now we have a super comment from Toy69erAnus who says 'Read my last post', thanks for the $5!"

I mean...

I actually still have an X-Men fold-out packed away. I should dig it out and see what's on it. I don't even remember.

To the other conversation: I don't take anyone seriously calling anyone a shill who lives inside Bobby Vala's ass. Very few 'toy reviewers' online -aren't- shills because very few toy reviewers online could afford to be toy reviewers without all the free stuff that they will only get if they keep being shills. So... find the guy with a voice you don't hate who does a good job of showing what the toy is and ignore their opinions because most of the opinions you get from 'professional reviewers' are worthless.

They're just another extension of the Red Pill/Male Loneliness Epidemic that has seeped into every facet of our society. Even our little community.

They think because they're opinionated and loud, that they're badasses, and it is just is so edgelord. 40 year old men getting like this over toys.

Did you see the time they "snuck in" to the Hasbro booth at a show, to ambush Dwight and Ryan? Literally showed up in disguises, to harass the Marvel team. Grown men, mind you. To the point that Ryan even looked at them and asked what I think is a valid question: "What are you doing?"

They're pathetic.

This 💯.

It’s so damn frustrating, and I’m so thankful for this forum because I spent most of my adult life being absolutely ashamed to be a part of the collector community because of shitheads like these.

It's just weird to me to rank- or critique in any way- any toy reviewer, to be honest. Like, are there shills? Absolutely, but I can't lie and say that, if some company sent me a freebie, especially of something I was already looking forward to, I wouldn't butter them up a bit more than usual. If something brings you joy and you wanna share it with others, why not? I try to keep most of my reviews that I post relatively positive, since it's a hobby that does, for the most part, bring me a lot of joy to partake in. I'll be honest, of course, but I try hard not to yuck other people's yums.

There are so many types of toy reviewers out there, and I feel like I've supported pretty much all of them at one point or another. Some people can come off as shills when they're really not- they're just excited, or a bit awkward behind the camera, or whatever. I don't think it's a thing that should be relegated to just the people with great personalities or those with the fanciest equipment and editing skills. The only thing that would really get me to purposely stop watching someone's channel is if they're just constantly negative all the time- either about toys or other reviewers. If I get secondhand embarrassment in the comfort of my own home just watching you bash things constantly and make us all look bad, then I ain't gonna support anymore, but almost anything else is fair game. It's such a shame anyone would have to be embarrassed to be part of this community, but it's not hard to see why sometimes.

But at the end of the day, we're all grown adults messing with toys, some people just get paid a little to do so. No one is better than anyone else just because they have a bigger collection or more subscribers or whatever. It's such a weird thing to either gatekeep or start turf wars over. It just makes us all look bad. It's why I, too, am appreciative of you guys here; we all have our strong opinions, certainly, but there's always love and positive vibes.

Anywho. More on topic- Mystique got here from Target today, and she's a beaut! Ain't taken her out of the packaging yet, but she already looks like such an upgrade from the original one.
