Cosmic Legions

This line has NEVER been as robust as Mythic Legions. If they went in some of the other sci-fi type tropes people were hoping for when they announced this line, it might sell better. As it is, their focus on doing "their thing" is going to limit the overall appeal the figures and line in general could have.
When I talked to one of them last fall, they assured me the line is a pet project that will continue to see releases. But when I expressed my tastes, the guy did admit that whoever the brainchild of this is, has his own tastes and they don't align with my pulp Barbarella Flash Gordon Valerian desires.

I got the impression it's just not a priority like Mythic Legions, but is protected by its status as a vanity project.

Yeah, I like the figures that I have, but given the sloooooow releases and very specific style I'm not super inspired anymore. I'll pick a few up here and there but if they just decide it's a once in a while vanity project I won't be heartbroken.

I received Anthophilees/not-Buzz-Off today with no warning. I might be the only one that’s still into these MotU tributes, but this one is tops. Lots of great details and options this line is famous for. The colors pop, especially the eyes on the tribute head. The antennae and two options for mandibles need to be attached, three options for pairs of hands, bug wings with a ton of detail, a staff and a small axe. If I could complain about one thing, is the head is huge and kind of out of proportion with the rest of the figure. But it’s gorgeous and looks great with previous releases. Can’t even remember if there are more MotU tributes coming. I just preorder and forget until they arrive years later.

They keep getting me with the tributes. I do wish they'd kept them in the same line because Man-E-Faces looks so different from the Mythic ones, but I think Buzz-Off is going to fit in with both lines just fine. (Mine should be here this afternoon.)

I get the vibe that fewer people collect them based on only this evidence: a collector shop called ChubzzyWubzzy.com is local to me. They carry Mythic and Cosmic Legions, all the 4H stuff (I guess they're official sellers?) OH and another one, Zapp Comics. These places both carry them, and the tributes seem to stick around long enough to be heavily discounted. What do we pay for them? $50-70? At these places, they generally drop significantly, like in the $25-35 range. Thast gave me the impression that they're not as coveted as the "main line" Mythic Legions/Cosmic Legions/Figura Obscura offerings.

I do think they've dropped off - I know my excitement for them lowered when I found that Masterverse was scratching the itch for MOTU at this scale for me at a far lower price. But I still pick up the homage figures when they pop up.

MOTU’s always had that mix of fantasy and sci-fi aesthetic, so hopefully we’ll start seeing more tributes using Cosmic pieces to bring things closer together.

I am fully aware that USPS is being fucked, deeply and passionately, by the Federal Government right now, but my Cosmic Legions package was supposed to be here yesterday and the delivery tracker has it in some mystery limbo territory with no arrival date, which would not REALLY bother me except the USPS did this WITH MY FUCKING TAX PAPERWORK which took from March 20th to April 4th to get to the accountant by certified mail, roughly 8 miles. I could've walked it there faster, so now I assume my Cosmic Legions will also be in limbo for two weeks on the back of a truck somewhere. I'm less bothered by the action figures by the TAX PAPERWORK (which I ended up re-sending digitally so the accountant would have it in time for April 15th since USPS couldn't me anything other than "it's in transit" but all this to say, USPS used to be my most trusted shipping service in my area and under the current leadership I don't think I'd trust it to deliver a fucking Christmas card on time if I mailed it on Halloween.

I was so excited for this line when they first announced it. But when the aesthetic turned out to be "generic modern videogames a la Destiny etc." I was disappointed. I really wanted that retro vibe, or NASApunk or really anything aside from what we got. The only Cosmic Legion I really like is Wal-Torr, and that's because his orange outfit taps some sort of 1980s nostalgia I can't even identify.

I take back my mini-rant about the missing box of Cosmic Legions from last week - it's out for delivery today. I do think every shipping company's tracking capabilities has taken a nose dive in the past six months or so and I'm starting to wonder if they've all implemented some sort of shitty AI for it because I'm seeing so many packages just blip out of existence and then arrive late.

Yeah, I find I still really like their color palette choices and such but the figures don't inspire me the way their fantasy figures do - like I pick up a Mythic and kinda want to tell a story with it, where that just doesn't happen with Cosmic. I think they're pretty figures, but I think if 2026 me was looking at the OxKrewe figures instead of the 2024 me who was really excited about the line, I might've just picked up one or two and called it a day.

Fair warning—the Buzz Off wings are fucking garbage material. Broke the second I tried to put them together. Cheap, brittle clear plastic that don’t fit properly in the base itself an don’t even have hinges for the lower wings. Masterverse did a better job at half the price.

I swear I’ve had more Cosmic pieces just shatter in my hand than anything else I’ve got from them.

Oh jeez, that sucks. I did feel that mine were kind of thin, but I thought it was to make them light weight. My only issue with them is that they bump into each other when outstretched horizontally and don’t have enough clearance to hinge in that position. I didn’t have any issue plugging them into his back adapter.
