Action Force and Valaverse

This is a Bobby post rather than anything to do with Valaverse. He did a 3POA on Saturday about kickstarters. The most interesting part was him telling the Brutal Realm guys multiple times to give him a call. This stems from an update on their kickstarter page showing an EP (Engineering Pilot). Bobby says this is the wrong term because what they showed was a resin model before tooling was made. He implies someone is giving them the wrong information and he thinks he knows who it is. I assume that person is David Vonner.

This was one of the few kickstarters I've been interested in, but I played it safe by going with BBTS preorders. I have to avoid kickstarters because right now I'm annoyed by a $55 nrd on a figure in its 26th month. I can't believe these guys are talking about a 1st quarter release. I'd be shocked if anything is out by this time next year.

I also pre-ordered a few on BBTS. The current batch of photos have me re-considering, though. I'm just not sure I like the proportions and build style of the figures, and I've already got plenty of half- or mostly-naked muscle dudes in my toy collection. Because I PO'd through BBTS, and am already not super jazzed on these, I'm a lot less concerned than some might be about whether these even get made.

But also.. I just don't believe Vala is bringing that up out of the goodness of his heart. This feels like more 'I know everything' posturing from Bobby. And I really doubt the Brutal Realm guys are gonna just call him up anyway.

Bobby isn’t one to miss out on self promotion, but Bobby has had a pretty adamant history of talking about how people that don’t know what they are doing launching toy lines because it leads to problems (which can hurt all adult collector lines).

Like we joke about the Shartimus POA episode, but a lot of the conversation that was coming from Bobby (ignore the chat and Laserpants) was genuinely good advice and such for Shartimus

I kinda forgot about this Kickstarter. I played it safe, too, as I'm now skeptical of most first-time creators thanks to Austin Gentry and Solomon Witt.

I just went in $36 for the Owl King figure to try things out but I don't think I'm too worried yet. This funded a couple months before Chicken Fried Toys' latest Kickstarter and look where they are in the process ... (Or where they aren't, maybe.)

I want those new gun packs to pop up on bbts. They are really nice and I don't wanna buy them straight from Vala if I can help it. I'd rather support bbts. I know vala gets the money anyway. But at the point bbts gets it, vala got their share anyway. They look really cool though.

They've got some real classics in these. The MP5, double silenced MAC 10s, SPAS 12, and sawed off are all big time 80s-90s movie guns.

I did the Kickstarter for Not Conan and Athena.

At this point, it is vaporware to me and a lesson to just kickstart books.
What do you expect from someone who calls himself "InhaledFarts"?

Dude is a massive dickhead.

And Dave Vonner, "legendary" as he is...no pun intended...I've mentioned it in the past, there's a reason he can never stick around at any one company for very long. Let's leave it at that.

I was very leery of this KS because of the people involved.

I haven't given up on BR, yet, so we'll see. The recent production photos haven't been great but I think we can all agree this year has been wacky as hell for production, especially a new company. I'm calling this year a mulligan and hope the basic figures are at least decent and ship out next year. They're not giving up, dickhead guy has been going to every convention and advertising and he has his KS bag already, he could have quit. I don't know what they worked out with BBTS but surely there would be a lawsuit if he didn't at least produce something.

As for Vala, I agree that Weapons Pack Lima looks great with it's shotguns and uzis. So I bought two, as well as Weapons Pack Mike, Backpack Set Bravo, and Weapons Pack November (rocket launcher). They just arrived and I haven't had a chance to check them out but weapons pack Lima in particular looked great in reviews. IMO Valaverse guns are easily one of the best options for 1/12, second only to very overpriced imports. And if you don't like fiddly weapons, Valaverse is probably the best.

I don't really know either. I mean, I've heard of Vonner, but I don't think I attribute anything to him.

I just like Athena and Barbarians.
Same it was just, "oh these would be perfect for a small Spartacus-style ludus diorama" instead of putting He-Man in an arena and pretending it's not He-Man. And the females, boy, I was willing to throw $30 at him just in hopes that someone makes a better muscle girl. And with all the companies showing them off this year, I think it's safe to say that all the positive attention Athena got inspired some of these other 3rd parties.

I've eyed the Brutal Realm stuff, and I have mixed feelings on them. The almost IP stealing characters are interesting, like their Conan-Becomes-The-Crow figure, or their Darth Skeletor guy. They look good, but there are just so many barbarian figures being done by companies with decent track records that I just don't think I'll wind up biting. This could change if I hear a bunch of great reviews for them down the road, but right now...eh...
