Mattel MOTU Chronicles Movie Figures

I believe that is Masterverse Despara.

I double checked, it's Origins Despara. Masterverse has a lot more white since it's basically just Adora in armor, Origins is a full on Despara.

I also did some more comparison. King Grayskull seems to be using the exact same base body as Movie He-Man. Sculpt seems incredibly similar, at least. So we can use reviews of that for general size scaling.

From Kyle Peterson's review.

So what I theorized way back, I believe is a reality. Scareglow is just a bit of a larger guy, while the line is fully in-line with what we except for domestic 1/12. Movie He-Man should be the standard going forward, and likely what we build off of.

I'm trying to just not over-analyze and wait until I have something in hand, but man... I am so excited about a Marvel Legends-scaled He-Man figure. Gonna have to do some Mojoworld shennanigans. And if you guys think I won't slam a He-Man into every 1:12 action figure display I have, you don't know a Damien at all.

You know, really looking at it, and over-analyzing it... I'm not convinced KG uses the movie He-Man body.

Look at the picture above, then look at the photo of KG with his sword on his shoulder. The shape of the outer pecs is totally different, right?

I kinda hope they’re different, even without scrutinizing or comparing. They should be. This figure is a movie figure and should have proportions similar to that of a real human actor. King Grayskull should maintain more fantastic proportions, like the godly barbarian he is.

I see what you're seeing from the size comp photo I put, but comparing Mattel's officials pictures of both, it looks 1:1 there, excluding harsher lighting on King Grayskull's photos. A lot of the joint cuts, the abs shaping and their slight askew, and the exact placement of the vein into the bicep cut are what sell me most.

I could be grasping at straws here, but I also don't take Mattel for the type to make two nigh identical bodies of the same size (judging by Origins Despara size reference) rather than just reusing them. I do wish King Grayskull was more of a beast like his 200X counterpart, though. I figure he'll have a similar presence if I just add the fur, though.

I didn't take Mattel for creating a body for Scare-Glow with fully sculpted-on bones so it can't really be used for anything else (or almost anything else - I'm sure there's skeleton soldiers or something). But here we are.
Not saying I'm right about the different bodies. But at this point, I'm not prepared to rule it out.

I know he’s far more expensive, but wouldn’t Mondo 1/12 He-Man technically fit the bill as well?

That is totally fair, but from my perspective a one-off sculpt is even more reason they'd try to save costs elsewhere.

Either way, this is mostly just me pondering overall line scaling, and with the visible similarities I'm thinking the movie He-Man is now the best representative of what we'll see for non-movie toys, more so than Scareglow. We'll just have to see when King Grayskull starts hitting our mailboxes!

They turned me off by making the only parts of that figure I liked exclusive elements for the -super- expensive version. I -despise- the techno sword and will not display a figure with it.
I also think Mondo's articulation model is kind of shit.

Oh for sure. But my counter to that would be that they'd want the -movie- He-Man to precisely be that, and something unique and separate from their non-movie products. And a new, similar, body for KG would invariably be re-used in any standard He-Man line 65 more times.

Also true, but I just can't wrap my head around why they'd spend money on a sculpt that is virtually indistinguishable in any manner that I can tell.

Just know that the first thing I'll be doing upon getting King Grayskull is stripping him butt ass naked for comparison.

People say the same thing about Marvel Legends having three or four different naked super guy bodies. Maybe they just want 'real person' He-Man to feel a little smaller and/or differently-shaped from their 'heroic' versions, for lack of a better term. Maybe it's JUST to differentiate that movie product is its own separate thing. The minds of toy execs, man. Never discount that they just do weird shit sometimes. And other times they just have good reasons we can't see yet.

But I may also be totally full of shit and those are the same body entirely.

Curious what this forum is like
anyways
I FUCKING LOVE CHRONICLES ATM
I FUCKING LOVE THEM GOING BACK TO CLASSICS SCALE
OH MY GOD
The only complaint I have is the lack of actual thigh cut, that's really it.
I genuinely am baffled Mattel can get away with (allegedly) import-level quality on $20+ dollar figures.
Is this like how ToyBiz were charging $10 for new sculpts and more articulation?

Welcome to the forums man! Hope you enjoy your stay!

I think these are going to skew a bit smaller than Classics and Scareglow will be a bit of an exception, but should be around that sort of size anyways.

Bit of retread on discussion we've been saying for a while, but it is actually baffling what they're pulling off here, and I hope that the rest of the industry follows suit. We've seen every company very shallowly try to imitate are doing and fail due to 0 understanding of the actual engineering, but it's nice to see some tangible progress, especially if it applies to DC as well.

Should be getting my Scareglow in on Monday, and King Grayskull a week after that. Very excited to play with them.
