In terms of re-dos, I don't see what the big deal is with wanting to see some classic characters and popular characters in alternate looks get remade. I'm not saying to have an entire year's worth of "Marvel Legends" be nothing but redos, but there are plenty of A-listers who need updating and sold-separately releases. Look at Doctor Octopus and Thor. They haven't had any new figures in several years, though Doc Ock did get a re-release/recoloring with the Silk two-pack and Thor got re-released as Ragnarok, and I would love to buy both characters on new body molds, with alternate heads and new accessories. Also, I would love both versions of Sandman - green armored suit for Frightful Four displays and the classic Steve Ditko look for the Spider-Man display.
On the subject of wish-listing, these are my Top 10 at the moment of characters I want Hasbro to make the most and most of them are re-dos:
1. Doctor Octopus (green-and-yellow suit)
Who's surprised on this one? Doc Ock is my favorite Spider-Man villain and he needs a new body mold and the animated series two-pack's bendable wire tentacles. You can put him on the Retro Spider-Man box art, the Toy Biz Marvel Super Heroes early '90s box art or even the Secret Wars box art. I just hope he gets made.
2. Doc Ock (white Armani suit)
I am honestly amazed (no pun intended) he hasn't had a figure made by now. Again, he needs bendable wire tentacles.
3. Spider-Man (John Romita Sr. art based)
This time, I'd have the chest spider emblem with the legs out at its sides like the '80s "Spider-Man" and "Amazing Friends" animated series. Toss in a Peter Parker alternate head, fist hands, and alternate web-shooting and wall-crawling posed hands and they can have my money.
4. Mary Jane Watson (first appearance)
She hasn't had a classic figure in several years now and the last few figures have just been M.J. heads on figures like the Retro Gwen Stacy and Spinneret figure. They could even include a removable jacket accessory and alternate jacket sleeve arms.
5. Hulk (classic green savage)
That Maximum series figure's alternate heads and rubbery chest made me angry for all the wrong reasons, Hasbro. Put him on a body mold where the chest doesn't break, the alternate heads have better face sculpts and hair, and get back to me.
6. Hulk (brown Pantheon-era jumpsuit)
We may have the new Smart Hulk (which is awesome), but I'm still waiting on his full brown jumpsuit look with the black belt and boots. I don't care if they re-use the same Smart Hulk body for it, I just don't want the chest to break.
7. Thor (classic)
Making a new classic Thor on a new body mold with new alternate heads and a "spinning" Mjolnir accessory to go with a Mjolnir accessory? Yes, please!
8. Invisible Woman ("Fantastic Four" #387 suit)
See the 1995 "Marvel Masterpieces" cards for the suit I mean. This suit got a lot of merchandise exposure in the mid-90s, such as in coloring books and even a McDonald's Happy Meal toy, so why hasn't Hasbro made it?
9. Doctor Doom (classic)
I know, we got the Retro Fantastic Four Doom, but that helmet didn't look comic accurate enough and I was hoping for some "Kirby crackle" energy accessories for his hands. Toss in a Doombot alternate head for fun.
10. Green Goblin (classic Silver Age)
I need a John Romita Sr./Gil Kane era Green Goblin with minimal scales on the arms and legs, a better body mold, several new head sculpts (a laughing Green Goblin head sculpt and civilian heads for Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn and even Dr. Bart Hamilton would be great - and a J. Jonah Jameson for "Untold Tales" fans), some pumpkin bombs and a bat-wing shaped Goblin Glider that stays on the figure's feet.
In terms of new figures that aren't redos from figures over the past few years, I'm hoping for:
1. Dracula (Gene Colan)
2. Leader (orange-and-black suit with "Jiffy Pop" brain)
3. Wizard (classic)
4. Storm (Alan Davis suit)
5. Namorita (green scaled one-piece swimsuit)
6. Psylocke (pink suit)
7. Ringmaster (classic)
8. Wonder Man (early '90s black-and-red "Avengers West Coast" suit)
9. Thing (Fantastic Four tank top, belt, pants and boots look with alternate helmet head)
10. Lady Octopus (classic with bendy wire tentacles)
In terms of random retro card releases like
@Enforcer mentioned, I second wanting a '90s Jim Lee Cyclops that isn't animated or cel-shaded, classic Black Cat, and even classic red Daredevil despite being pleased with the "Secret Wars" version. I'd also welcome revisiting the original Retro Toy Biz wave, though I'd love to see the Hulk (that's not an exclusive please, Hasbro), Dr. Doom, Doc Ock with bendable wire tentacles, Silver Surfer, Daredevil and maybe a new female character like Scarlet Witch or She-Hulk for a Retro wave on the original 1990 Toy Biz box art. It'd also be nice to get a classic Lizard that wasn't an exclusive and didn't sell out after being online for fifteen or so minutes.
If we're talking about Retro boxed sets, I'd take a classic original six X-Men (Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, Marvel Girl and Professor X) or the original five Avengers (Ant Man, Hulk with purple shorts, Iron Man, Thor and Wasp, respectively. I'd also love an X-Factor boxed set that gives us a blue-and-white Cyclops without the metallic paint and sloppily applied paint. Also, most of Spider-Man's villains would make great Maximum series figures, especially Mysterio (with alternate heads of Quentin Beck and Daniel Berkhart and a better cape), the Green Goblin and Hobgoblin. Imagine having a Hobgoblin with razor bats, pumpkin bombs, and the many alternate heads that could be included, from Ned Leeds and Flash Thompson to Jason Macendale and Roderick Kingsley. Knowing Hasbro, though, I'm expecting some kind of Iron Man and some kind of Wolverine for the next Maximum series figures.
Anyway, thanks for reading my nonsense. Have a great night, True Believers.
