NFL Talk

It really has been trying times. My poor children have only seen 2 championships in their lifetime - and can't even remember them!

Are we sure the Seahawks can't win the NFC? They'd be my pick if the playoffs started today. Sam Darnold, I know, I know.

We've got a barn burner for the #1 pick. Tennessee, New Orleans, NYG, NYJ, Miami, Cleveland, and Vegas are all in with a shot.

I think the Jets just declared their intentions for going after the number 1 pick with the flurry of moves they made yesterday.

Seattle has looked strong but I don't believe in them Smith-Njigba can't keep going at this pace - and Seattle seems to know this since they added Shaheed - but I think the offense is not other-worldly or anything. In fact their run game isn't even mediocre.

Their defense is playing really well but they haven't played the Rams yet at all. In fact the only decent offense they've played this season is Tampa who dropped 38 on them.

Its possible they are good but if they can't/don't beat the Rams it won't matter.

I know my team is cooked since our starting QB and top ywo receivers still aren't playing, but if they somehow luck into a season sweep of the Rams on Sunday there is a path to winning the division despite the injuries.

After LA, the Niners get the Cardinals, Panthers, Browns and Titans. Thats 4 straight winnable games. If they get healthier during that stretch and Saleh voodoos up a decent defense, they could finish pretty strong.

And it remains to be seen if the Darnold we saw last January is 'high stakes' Darnold. Because he was great for most of the regular season and then evaporated when it mattered. They were playing for the 1 seed last year and got annihilated 31-9. They went in to the playoffs heavily favored against the Rams and got annihilated. And Darnold didn't play well in either of those 'must win' games. If he dims when the lights shine brightest its a problem.

I will say I was shocked that Niners didn't take a swing for an edge rusher at the deadline. Would have thought Phillips or Chubb from the Dolphins made sense.

The Patriots just keep winning. Tampa has been wrecked by injuries, but that’s still a tough place to go into and win. Maye continues to be a really fun player to watch. I figured McDaniels would do wonders for him, but I had no idea it would happen this fast. The team is getting a bit dinged up though and the lack of depth is scary. They get the Jets this Thursday and then a much needed break to follow. The team doesn’t actually have a bye until week 14 which is pretty nuts. The Jets getting a win this weekend and Miami’s upset of Buffalo should hopefully provide plenty of motivation for the team to not overlook their opponent too. Not that any team should overlook a division opponent, especially on Thursdays. Weird stuff seems to always happen in such contests.

Man... the Niners game should have been closer. Jennings had the first down and should have gone down instead of fightingnfor extra yards and losing possesion. Had we proceded to xore a TD there the game is tighter. Then we got screwed on an illegal motion penalty when Kittle was set and instead of a first down we move back 5 yards and on the next play Jones throws the pick. If that BS penalty doesn't get called we are ahead of the sticks and running the ball.

Niners D cannot generate a pass rush though, so Stafford had all day to allow coverage to break down. I am still gob smacked that they didn't trade for some pass rush.

Still Cardinals, Browns, Panthers, Titans is a nice stretch to get right. If they play right they would be 10-4 with games against the Colts and Bears before that last game against the Seahawks... four crummy offenses to get some things right before the Colts. I think there is still a legitimate chance to go 12-5.

I am fascinated to watch the Seahawks/Rams next week. Rams still have Seahawks twice, Buccaneers and Lions on their schedule... so not a cake walk. Seahawks have the two Rams games, Vikings, Colts and Niners... I think all 3 teams could potentially end up with 12 or 13 wins, which would be crazy

Yeah... Darnold is a big confidence guy... and if the Rams can disrupt him early he could struggle. The Rams are the team that made him play the worst game of the year last year.

I'm pretty confident in this Seattle team. They're beating the hell out of their opponents.

I'm adding the Pats to my "Are we sure they can't win the conference?" list. The Chiefs/Bills/Ravens look beatable.

This week's game with the Rams will be telling. I am interested. If the Seahawks thump LA, then I can believe. If its a close game maybe I believe in both. If the Rams cleanly handle business then I'm less impressed with the Hawks.

Good win last night for the Pats. I don't like Thursday games and I make it a point to not have any takeaways really from them. Just get the win and get through them healthy. Milton Williams going down was not ideal, but it sounds like he could have come back in if needed, but the team didn't want to push it. Hopefully this little break now helps him and some of their other guys get healthy and get them to their bye. They get the Bengals and Giants before the bye, then it gets real interesting with Buffalo and Baltimore in back-to-back weeks. If they find a way to go 3-1 through that stretch then not only will they likely win the division, but even the number 1 seed in the conference which is crazy. I was just hoping they'd be vying for a playoff spot this year.

I feel bad for Jets fans. That team just can't seem to figure it out. Over the past 25 years, I think their best quarterback in that time might still be Chad Pennington. They have so many picks in the upcoming drafts that they'll have a chance to get a real quarterback, but since they're the Jets, it feels like whoever they take will be a bust anyway.
